Best Loadout for Exploring and Completing Quests in ARC Raiders (2026 Guide)

By Freedom251 Team · · 11 min read

The safest general-purpose loadout for exploring and completing quests in ARC Raiders is a replaceable, flexible kit: one controllable mid-range primary, a close-range backup, two ammunition stacks for the weapons you bring, one healing item and one utility gadget. Enter with roughly 70% of your inventory free so quest items and salvage have room. Adjust your augment, shield and gadget to the map, weather, expected ARC pressure and extraction route rather than carrying one expensive build every raid.

This approach matters because ammunition is scarce, rival Raiders can contest objectives, and an Expedition can reset quest progress, gear and upgrades. A kit that is affordable to replace lets you keep progressing after a failed extraction instead of risking your entire stockpile on every deployment.

What to bring in a standard quest raid

Embark’s loadout documentation divides a deployment into weapons, armor, weapon mods, ammunition, gadgets, utilities and optional crafting materials. The beginner checklist below turns those categories into a practical starting point for a mixed exploration-and-quest run.

Slot or category Recommended starting choice Reason and limitation
Primary weapon A controllable assault rifle or another dependable mid-range weapon; the current beginner guide uses Tempest as its example. Mid-range reach works across outdoor sightlines and most building approaches. Choose a gun you can replace without exhausting your storage.
Secondary weapon A shotgun or sidearm. It gives you an answer to close ARC encounters, interior fights and damaged targets that reach your position.
Ammunition Two stacks for each weapon you actually equip. Topside ammunition is scarce. Carrying extra rounds is safer than discovering an empty magazine during an objective, but do not fill every slot with ammunition.
Healing One health kit; Trauma Foam is an example listed by the beginner guide. Healing converts a small mistake into a recoverable one and supports a longer route to extraction.
Utility gadget One tool chosen for the run: reconnaissance, disruption, defense or extraction support. A gadget should solve the danger you expect, not simply occupy a slot. Examples include lure grenades, ziplines, mines, door blockers, grenades, flares and bandages.
Augment Capacity-focused gear for collection runs; combat-focused gear when contact is likely. Augments can expand capacity, improve survivability or add utility. Capacity is valuable only if you can survive long enough to extract.
Shield and armor Use a lighter, capacity-friendly setup for low-threat searching and a tougher combat setup for dangerous objectives. Shields and augments let you trade movement speed, carrying capacity and offensive potential. There is no universally superior combination.
Crafting materials Optional, and only when the objective or route justifies the space. Materials compete directly with quest items and salvage. Leave them behind when they reduce your ability to move or extract.

Keep the loadout around 70% full when you insert. That leaves room for mission objects and valuable salvage while preventing the common mistake of entering with no capacity for the reason you deployed.

Why a replaceable kit beats a permanent “meta” build

Every weapon and gadget carried into a raid is exposed to loss on a failed extraction. The available guidance identifies useful templates, but no published statistic shows that one loadout produces the highest quest-completion rate. Treat the standard kit as a budget baseline: upgrade it for a specific threat, then return to an affordable version when the objective does not justify the risk.

Choose the build by the job

Exploration and salvage

For a run focused on searching buildings, containers and side areas, reduce the cost of failure and maximize room for items. A current third-party build guide lists Looting Mk.1 as a practical option for this role, with 18 backpack slots and compatibility with a light shield. That is a guide recommendation, not an official best-in-slot claim.

  • Use a dependable but inexpensive primary and the smallest close-range backup that covers your route.
  • Carry the two ammunition stacks you need rather than spare ammunition for guns you did not bring.
  • Favor capacity and movement over heavy combat specialization when the route avoids known high-threat areas.
  • Select reconnaissance or disengagement utility so you can identify a threat, bypass it or reach extraction without a prolonged fight.
  • Drop cheap scrap if the backpack fills or a route becomes contested; losing low-value material is preferable to losing the whole kit.

A light shield and a capacity augment are not permission to ignore combat. They are a way to turn a successful search into more extracted value when the expected danger is manageable.

Mixed questing with uncertain contact

When a quest can place you near both ARC machines and rival Raiders, use the all-rounder template from the same current guide: Bettina and Tempest with Combat Mk.2. The guide describes that combination as balanced for player-versus-player and player-versus-environment situations. It remains a starting point rather than a tested universal answer.

  • Keep the mid-range weapon ready for open approaches and machine weak points.
  • Reserve the shotgun or sidearm for interiors, surprise pushes and finishing a damaged target.
  • Choose a combat-leaning augment or shield only if the objective is likely to force a fight; otherwise, retain enough capacity for quest items.
  • Carry a utility that creates time or distance, such as a door blocker, mine, lure or zipline, depending on the route.

This configuration is appropriate when you cannot reliably predict whether the next contact is a machine, a player or both. It avoids committing the entire backpack to either pure looting or pure combat.

High-threat objectives

For a quest that requires a difficult ARC fight, passes through elite-machine territory or occurs under a dangerous map condition, spend more of the loadout on survival. Bring additional healing, a combat-capable augment and a gadget that interrupts pressure or creates space.

  • Use the primary weapon you control under sustained fire, not merely the one with the highest theoretical damage.
  • Keep the close-range backup accessible for interiors and for an ARC unit that closes the distance.
  • Take enough ammunition for the expected engagement, while still reserving capacity for the objective item.
  • Prefer defensive utility that buys a retreat or blocks a route when extraction is more important than a kill.
  • Repair the weapons before deployment and avoid adding optional materials that could prevent you from carrying healing or mission items.

Night raids deserve special caution. Embark’s overview says that time of day, weather and special conditions can alter both rewards and threat; night raids can offer better loot while increasing ARC danger. A high-threat night objective therefore justifies the combat version of the kit rather than the light looting setup.

Match weapons and utility to the map

Embark identifies four Rust Belt locations—Dam Battlegrounds, Buried City, Spaceport and Blue Gate—and describes them as distinct environments. Terrain, sightlines and building density change how much value you receive from each part of the kit.

Situation Loadout emphasis What to avoid
Open ground and long approaches Stable mid-range primary, enough ammunition for exposed crossings, and utility that helps you disengage. Relying only on a close-range weapon or carrying heavy gear that slows a route with little cover.
Dense interiors and containers Shotgun or sidearm backup, door-control utility and a capacity reserve for multiple search rooms. Spending all your ammunition before the quest item is secured.
Known ARC concentration or elite machines Combat augment or shield, extra healing and a gadget that creates space or interrupts pressure. Entering with a looting-only setup because it has more backpack slots.
Long, exposed extraction route Defensive utility, a healthy reserve of ammunition and enough healing to survive a second engagement. Filling the backpack with low-value scrap before identifying the safest exit.
Night or unusual weather condition Build for the increased threat first; add capacity only if the route remains controllable. Assuming a better reward automatically makes a light, fragile build worthwhile.

Use a five-question route check

  1. How much contact is likely? Estimate ARC density, elite machines and the chance of rival Raiders before choosing between capacity and combat gear.
  2. Will you move or carry? A faster setup improves disengagement; a capacity setup increases the value of a successful search. Decide which outcome the objective rewards.
  3. What range will the terrain demand? Open sightlines favor a stable mid-range weapon, while interiors make the close-range backup more important.
  4. How exposed is extraction? A long or visible return route warrants healing and defensive utility even if the objective itself is quiet.
  5. Can you afford to lose this kit? Reserve expensive weapons and rare ammunition for objectives that genuinely require them.

Plan extraction before the backpack is full

Extraction is part of the loadout decision, not a final step after looting. A full backpack can tempt you to stay for one more container while making movement and decision-making harder. Identify an exit direction before you begin searching, then reassess after each major objective or fight.

  1. Set a capacity threshold. At insertion, decide how much room must remain for the quest item. Do not treat every empty slot as an invitation to collect scrap.
  2. Secure the required objective first. If a quest item is available, take it before optional rooms and materials.
  3. Recalculate after combat. Count remaining ammunition and healing. If either is low, switch from searching to extraction even if nearby containers remain.
  4. Discard low-value material when necessary. The beginner guidance explicitly favors abandoning cheap loot over risking a squad wipe.
  5. Use utility for the return. A zipline can shorten a dangerous traverse; a door blocker, mine, lure or flare can buy time or redirect attention, depending on the situation.
  6. Leave while the route is favorable. A contested path, changing weather or increased ARC activity can turn a profitable run into a total loss.

Do not measure a raid only by the number of items collected. A quest item and an intact, replaceable kit are worth more than a full backpack that never reaches extraction.

Augments, shields and capacity trade-offs

Embark describes augments as equipment that can expand carrying capacity, improve survivability or add utility. Shields and augments together let you exchange speed, capacity and offensive potential. Build around the objective rather than trying to maximize all three at once.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When capacity is the right investment

  • The quest requires several objects or the route crosses many searchable locations.
  • Expected ARC and Raider contact is low enough that a lighter defensive profile remains survivable.
  • You can keep the primary weapon inexpensive and use movement or reconnaissance to avoid fights.

When combat protection is worth the space

  • The objective forces an ARC encounter or passes through an area where machines are concentrated.
  • Night, weather or a special condition raises the threat enough that extraction may require a fight.
  • The route has long exposed sections where speed alone will not provide cover.

Looting Mk.1, the 18-slot light-shield option listed by the third-party guide, fits the first group. Combat Mk.2 in the Bettina-and-Tempest template fits the uncertain-contact group. Neither label proves superiority outside the situations described by the guide.

Manage ammunition, healing and repairs

Ammunition scarcity is one of the strongest reasons to avoid over-specialized builds. Carry two stacks for each equipped weapon, then spend rounds deliberately: bypass a machine when the objective does not require a fight, and do not turn every container search into a loud engagement. If the route demands more rounds than the backpack can hold, the objective may justify a combat loadout rather than a looting one.

Healing has a similar opportunity cost. One health kit is the baseline; add more only when the objective or route predicts repeated damage. Trauma Foam is a documented example of a survival gadget, but the useful principle is to bring a recovery option that matches the danger rather than filling every utility slot with offense.

Use the Workshop to upgrade, craft and repair gear before a long deployment. A damaged weapon or depleted supply is a preparation problem, not something to discover after insertion. Free loadouts are also documented as an option, so use them when preserving valuable equipment matters more than taking a premium build.

Quest progression and the Expedition reset

PC Gamer reported on May 1, 2026, that the Riven Tides update brought the quest total to exactly 100. Quests can reward gear and customization, making steady completion more valuable than chasing a single spectacular raid.

The same report warns that an Expedition resets quest progress along with gear and upgrades. That reset makes a replaceable quest kit especially important: use affordable weapons for routine objectives and reserve rare or expensive equipment for missions whose ARC fight or map condition truly demands it. Before beginning an Expedition, treat valuable gear and upgrades as temporary resources rather than permanent progress.

A progression-safe preparation sequence

  1. Read the objective and identify whether it requires a fight, a specific location, a carried item or a timed route.
  2. Choose the baseline kit, then change only the slot that answers the known risk: capacity, combat protection, healing or extraction utility.
  3. Repair and craft in the Workshop before leaving.
  4. Keep inventory near 70% capacity so the quest object has guaranteed space.
  5. After extraction, replace consumables and repair before queuing for the next objective.
  6. For an Expedition, remove equipment you cannot afford to lose and plan around the stated reset behavior.

Common loadout mistakes and fixes

Symptom Likely mistake Correction
You find the quest object but cannot pick it up. The insertion kit consumed too much capacity. Return with about 70% of the backpack free and omit optional crafting materials.
You run out of rounds before reaching extraction. You carried ammunition for an over-large weapon set or fought every machine. Use two stacks per equipped weapon, choose a controllable primary and bypass nonessential fights.
You lose a premium weapon on a routine quest. The kit was more expensive than the objective required. Use a replaceable primary and save rare ammunition and high-value gear for high-threat missions.
You can loot safely but cannot survive the return. Capacity gear replaced all defensive or extraction utility. Trade some slots for a sturdier shield, healing or a gadget that creates distance.
Interior fights consistently go badly. The loadout depends entirely on a mid-range weapon. Add a shotgun or sidearm and keep it ready before entering buildings.
A night raid produces losses instead of better rewards. The build treated the improved loot opportunity as risk-free. Use the high-threat configuration, with more healing and space-making utility, or choose a safer time.
Your next deployment starts with damaged or incomplete equipment. The Workshop step was skipped after the previous raid. Repair, restock and craft before inserting again; use a free loadout when preserving valuable gear is the priority.

Pre-deployment checklist

  • Primary mid-range weapon selected and affordable to replace.
  • Close-range shotgun or sidearm equipped.
  • Two ammunition stacks prepared for each equipped weapon.
  • Health kit packed; add Trauma Foam or another suitable survival option when the route is dangerous.
  • One gadget chosen for reconnaissance, disruption, defense or extraction.
  • Augment and shield matched to capacity or combat expectations.
  • Weapon repaired in the Workshop.
  • Backpack approximately 70% empty.
  • Map, weather, time of day and extraction route considered.
  • Low-value scrap identified as the first thing to drop if the run becomes overloaded or contested.

What “best” means for this loadout

The strongest evidence supports a decision framework, not a single tested winner. Official documentation establishes the loadout categories, scarce ammunition, repair requirement, gadget choices, augment trade-offs, map variation, free loadouts and Workshop preparation. The Tempest example, Bettina-and-Tempest pairing, Combat Mk.2 template and Looting Mk.1 option come from a current third-party guide and should be treated as practical starting points.

Because no published source supplies a controlled comparison of quest-completion rates, the best loadout is the one that meets the objective while preserving enough capacity, ammunition, healing and mobility to extract. Start with the baseline kit, change one or two pieces for the map and threat, and keep the expensive version for missions that make its additional risk worthwhile.
