For the original Ashes of the Damned quest, run the Necrofluid Gauntlet with Jugger-Nog, Melee Macchiato, Stamin-Up, Speed Cola, Wisp Tea and Quick Revive. Use Aether Shroud for safer setup and revives, or Frenzied Guard when a defense demands armor and enemy control. Bring stun grenades, an upgraded conventional gun, and a ranged weapon for the distant Veytharion fight.
The unlock is a multi-stage, solo-capable quest: restore three power stations, defeat and reboot Klaus, pass the Zarya scan, charge an Aether Barrel at three generators, decode randomized rooftop symbols, and survive the final green-orb lockdown.

The recommended loadout
This setup is a general-purpose baseline for the Ashes of the Damned unlock. It prioritizes the damage resistance, movement, reload speed and rescue capacity that matter while driving Klaus, carrying the Aether Barrel and defending fixed objectives. Perk and augment balance can change with patches, so treat these choices as a current starting point rather than permanent rules.

| Slot | Perk | Recommended augments | Why it helps this quest |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Jugger-Nog | Turtle Shell; Durable Plates | Improves survivability while you are trapped in scans, generator defenses and the cellar lockdown. |
| 2 | Melee Macchiato | Expresso; Stick ’n Move | Strengthens close-range crowd control when the Gauntlet is your main weapon and gives more mobility after melee attacks. |
| 3 | Stamin-Up | Guns Up; Footwork | Helps you sprint between objectives and reposition while carrying the slow-moving barrel. |
| 4 | Speed Cola | Classic Formula; Quick Swap | Shortens reload and weapon-switch downtime during Klaus defenses and the timed generator transfers. |
| 5 | Wisp Tea | Mask of Salvation; Haste | Adds recovery and speed utility when a teammate is down or an objective is under pressure. |
| 6 | Quick Revive | Equivalent Exchange; Slow Death | Provides extra self-revive capacity, especially valuable for a solo attempt. |
Start with the Gauntlet as the centerpiece, but do not enter the quest with only a melee-range answer. A distant Veytharion boss requires ranged damage. The practical approach is to carry a conventional gun that has been upgraded before Uber Klaus and retain a ranged backup for long sight lines.

Weapon choices
An Akita akimbo shotgun at Legendary rarity and Pack-a-Punch III is the close-range farming option presented for this quest. It clears clustered zombies quickly, but its reach is not enough for Veytharion. Keep a ranged bullet weapon available if you use it.
The more broadly reliable backup is the Ray Gun Mk I. Pair it with Jugger-Nog, Speed Cola, Stamin-Up, Double Tap, Elemental Pop and Quick Revive when you want a simple ranged-damage package. The Ray Gun handles distance and dense groups without forcing you to give up the Gauntlet’s close-range role.
Field upgrade, ammo mod and equipment
- Aether Shroud with Afterimage: the safer default for setting up an objective, slipping through a crowded area or reviving a teammate.
- Frenzied Guard: the stronger alternative when the immediate job is drawing enemy attention and repairing armor during a defense.
- Napalm Burst: useful for packed lanes and fire-oriented steps.
- Dead Wire: a better answer when special enemies are the main threat.
- Brain Rot: can temporarily hold one lane while you work on an objective.
- Cryo Freeze: slows hordes crossing between connected zones, buying time during transfers.
- Molotovs: seal a chokepoint or keep zombies away from a stationary interaction.
- Monkey Bombs: create space for a revive, scan or generator interaction.
Stun grenades are the key preparation item for Klaus. GameSpot reported that four stuns reboot him; the current ZombiesCodex guide recommends three or four and notes that you can craft them with salvage. Bring enough materials to replace a missed throw.

The unlock is solo-capable and supports one to four players. A 70–120 minute run is a realistic estimate from the current guide, depending on movement, failed scans, downed players and how quickly you gather upgrades.
- Upgrade a conventional gun before the Uber Klaus encounter. Do not rely on an unmodified starting weapon.
- Buy your basic perks before returning to Janus Towers. Jugger-Nog and Speed Cola are especially important for surviving the first boss and reloading during defenses.
- Craft or purchase three or four stun grenades and keep salvage available for replacements.
- Plan a parking position for Ol’ Tessie near each objective. The vehicle is particularly useful when the barrel limits your movement.
- For co-op, assign one player to read and record rooftop symbols while another watches the jump-pad landing and nearby spawns.
Complete Ashes of the Damned unlock walkthrough
The following 15-stage sequence follows the original route. The power-pump order is flexible, but the recommended barrel order later is Ashwood, Blackwater Lake, then Vandorn Farm.
1. Install T.E.D.D.’s Head on Ol’ Tessie
Begin by placing T.E.D.D.’s Head on the Ol’ Tessie vehicle. This starts the power-restoration portion of the quest and gives you the transport needed for later Klaus and barrel objectives.
2. Activate the Blackwater Lake power pump
Drive to Blackwater Lake and activate its power pump. Clear the immediate area before interacting so a wandering horde does not interrupt the animation.

3. Activate the Vandorn Farm power pump
Travel to Vandorn Farm and restore the second station. Keep the vehicle positioned where it can be reached quickly if the area fills with zombies.
4. Activate the Ashwood power pump
Restore the Ashwood station. This is the pump that also enables Pack-a-Punch for the vehicle, so completing it early makes later travel safer and faster. The three pump activations can be completed in any order.
5. Return to Janus Towers and trigger Uber Klaus
With all three stations powered, return to Janus Towers and start the Uber Klaus encounter. Enter with the upgraded gun and basic perks prepared in advance; this is not the point to farm your first major upgrade.
6. Defeat Uber Klaus
Fight Klaus while managing the surrounding horde rather than standing in a corner. Use the Gauntlet for close groups, switch to the conventional gun for targets outside melee range, and deploy Aether Shroud or Frenzied Guard according to whether you need escape or armor control.
7. Destroy the ejected core and collect the Stabilizer Chip
After Uber Klaus is defeated, destroy the core he ejects and pick up the Stabilizer Chip. The chip is the item that lets you convert Klaus from a boss encounter into an objective tool.
8. Insert the chip in the Ashwood Sheriff’s Office
Take the Stabilizer Chip to the Sheriff’s Office in Ashwood and insert it into the device there. This prepares Klaus for the reboot sequence.
9. Reboot Klaus with stun grenades
Throw stun grenades at Klaus until the reboot completes. Four stuns are reported by GameSpot; ZombiesCodex advises carrying three or four, with salvage crafting available. If a throw misses, do not waste time waiting for a result—reposition, stun again and keep the surrounding lane clear.

10. Drive Klaus to the Zarya Cosmodrome terminal
Take Klaus in Ol’ Tessie to the Zarya Cosmodrome. At the broken terminal, issue the command that starts the scan. Park close enough to retreat quickly but not directly in the red objective circle.
11. Complete the Zarya scan
Activate the scan and remain inside the red circle while defending it. The scan takes about 60 seconds according to GameSpot’s 2025 guide. Zombies will attack during the timer, and leaving the circle or allowing the sequence to fail requires another attempt. Use Monkey Bombs for a rescue window, Aether Shroud to revive or reposition, and Frenzied Guard if holding enemy attention is the priority.
12. Charge the Aether Barrel at Ashwood
Take the Aether Barrel to the Ashwood generator and begin charging it. Carrying the barrel restricts movement, so clear a route first and leave Ol’ Tessie nearby for the next transfer.
13. Transfer and charge the barrel at Blackwater Lake
Move the charged barrel to Blackwater Lake and charge it again. ZombiesCodex gives approximately 105 seconds to reach the next generator after the first canister charge. Treat that as a route-planning limit, not spare time: use Stamin-Up, avoid unnecessary fights and keep the vehicle close.
14. Charge Vandorn Farm and deliver the barrel to the cellar
Take the barrel to Vandorn Farm for the final generator charge, then carry it to the farm cellar. Later transfers are given about 100 seconds by the same guide. The recommended order—Ashwood, Blackwater Lake, Vandorn Farm—places the final charged barrel closest to the cellar entrance.
15. Decode the rooftop symbols, open the cube and survive the lockdown
Use the jump pad near the farm to read the three red symbols displayed on the barn, farmhouse and silo roofs. The symbols are randomized for every match, so write them down or capture a screenshot during the flight. In the cellar, enter those three symbols on the cube’s three non-eye faces. Once the sequence is correct, interact with the eye to open the chamber, pick up the Necrofluid Gauntlet and start the final defense.
How to solve the randomized rooftop-symbol cube
The cube is not solved with a universal code. Each match generates a different set of symbols, and the order on the roofs is the order you must preserve when entering them.

- The Black Ops 6 Campaign provides dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay that includes a variety of play spaces with blockbuster set pieces and action-packed moments, high-stakes heists, and cloak-and-dagger spy activity.
- In a best-in-class Multiplayer experience, players will test their skills across 16 new maps at launch, including 12 core 6v6 maps and 4 Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6.
- Black Ops 6 also marks the epic return of Round-Based Zombies, the fan-favorite mode where players will take down hordes of the undead in two brand-new maps at launch. Post-launch, players can look forward to even more exciting maps and groundbreaking experiences dropping into both Multiplayer and Zombies.
- Stand at the jump pad with the route to the roofs in view.
- Launch and read the red symbol on the barn roof.
- Continue the flight and record the farmhouse symbol.
- Record the silo symbol before landing or losing sight of it.
- Open the cellar cube and use only the three faces that do not display an eye.
- Enter the symbols in the same barn-to-farmhouse-to-silo order.
- Interact with the eye face after all three entries are correct.
A screenshot is safer than memory, especially in co-op where one player may be fighting while another is airborne. If the eye does not open, check the order first; entering the right symbols in the wrong sequence is the common failure.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Winning the green-orb lockdown
Picking up the Gauntlet does not finish the quest. The chamber enters a lockdown in which green blobs appear as targets. Shoot each green blob with a spike, then reload to recall the spikes through the blobs. The green floor effect disappears only after every target is destroyed.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Before interacting with the weapon, reload, place a Monkey Bomb or Molotov at the approach lane, and activate your field upgrade if a horde is already inside the room. Aether Shroud is best for a dangerous revive or reset; Frenzied Guard is better when the team can hold the room and needs one player to absorb pressure. Keep the ranged backup ready for anything outside the Gauntlet’s effective reach.
Alternate Rex Infernus route
Rex Infernus has a different unlock method. The forge remains inactive until you obtain Warden’s Blight. Once it is active, offer Pack-a-Punched weapons from eight standard weapon classes, one sacrifice per round:
| Required class | Counts toward the eight |
|---|---|
| Pistol | Yes |
| Submachine gun | Yes |
| Light machine gun | Yes |
| Shotgun | Yes |
| Sniper rifle | Yes |
| Marksman rifle | Yes |
| Assault rifle | Yes |
| Launcher | Yes |
AllThingsHow’s 2026 route specifies one weapon sacrifice per round. Wonder Weapons, melee weapons and Special weapons do not count as substitutes for these eight classes. Track the class you have already offered so you do not spend a round repeating one. When the eighth accepted class is sacrificed, the forge produces the Necrofluid Gauntlet at Pack-a-Punch Tier 1.
Solo and co-op decisions
Solo
Solo players should favor Aether Shroud, Quick Revive, Monkey Bombs and the Ray Gun backup. The extra self-revive capacity and an emergency invisibility window matter more when there is no teammate to continue a scan or revive you. Park Ol’ Tessie near each objective before picking up the barrel, because a long detour while carrying it can consume the transfer timer.

Two to four players
Co-op teams can split jobs instead of stacking every player on the same interaction. One player can carry or escort Klaus, another can watch the circle, and a third can manage crowd control and revives. Frenzied Guard becomes more attractive when one player deliberately draws aggro while the others complete a scan, generator charge or cube entry. During the symbol flight, designate one recorder and have another player confirm the order before the cube is opened.

Troubleshooting the most common failures
The Klaus reboot does not trigger
Make sure the Stabilizer Chip was collected after destroying the ejected core and inserted at the Ashwood Sheriff’s Office. Then use stun grenades directly on Klaus. Three or four throws are the current practical expectation; missed throws and poor positioning can make it appear that the sequence is stalled.
The Zarya scan fails repeatedly
Remain inside the red circle for the full approximately 60-second timer. Clear the nearest lanes before activation, keep a field upgrade for a revive, and use a Monkey Bomb to create distance rather than abandoning the circle. A failed scan must be attempted again.
The barrel transfer runs out of time
Use the recommended Ashwood-to-Blackwater-to-Vandorn order, pre-position Ol’ Tessie and avoid detours. The guide’s timing is about 105 seconds after the first charge and about 100 seconds for later transfers. Stamin-Up and a cleared route are more valuable here than stopping to fight every zombie.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe cube will not open
Recheck the three randomized roof symbols and their order. Enter them on the three non-eye faces, then interact with the eye. A code from another match cannot be reused.
The lockdown floor effect remains
Every green blob must be hit with a spike and then recalled by reloading. Sweep the room methodically; one missed target keeps the green floor effect active.
Which setup should you choose?
| Priority | Best choice | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum survivability | Jugger-Nog, Quick Revive and Aether Shroud | Combines durability, extra self-revive capacity and a safe escape or revive window. |
| Defense control | Jugger-Nog with Frenzied Guard | Lets one player draw aggro and repair armor while the objective continues. |
| Fast objective movement | Stamin-Up and Speed Cola | Improves sprinting between stations and reduces reload or swap downtime. |
| Close-range farming | Necrofluid Gauntlet or Legendary Pack-a-Punch III Akita akimbo | Both excel against clustered enemies, but the Akita still needs a ranged partner for Veytharion. |
| Ranged boss coverage | Ray Gun Mk I or an upgraded bullet weapon | Handles distant targets that the Gauntlet and close-range shotgun cannot reach. |
For most players, the first table’s six-perk Gauntlet build is the best starting point. Change only the field upgrade and backup weapon to match the role your team is missing: Aether Shroud and a ranged gun for a cautious solo run, or Frenzied Guard and a close-range clearer when a co-op team already has long-range damage.
