Start by identifying your Fire TV model and software version
“Older Fire TV” is not one compatibility category. Amazon’s device documentation associates some first-generation and earlier devices with Fire OS 5 and Android API 22, while many 2018 devices use Fire OS 6 and API 25. Other generations have different baselines. Amazon also says older devices generally do not receive upgrades to newer Fire OS versions, so do not assume your device has the latest platform APIs.

Amazon describes Fire OS as an Android fork: “if your app runs on Android, it will most likely run on Amazon’s Fire devices too.” That is a broad statement about Android apps, not a guarantee that every Android TV home-screen feature or launcher-replacement method works on Fire TV. There are no controlled performance measurements, verified memory-use figures or model-specific success rates in the available evidence. Projectivy’s claim that it is optimized for older hardware is the vendor’s general statement, not an independent Fire TV speed test. “Lightweight” therefore cannot be used to rank these options reliably.

Projectivy: an option to verify, not guaranteed Fire TV support
Projectivy is the clearest choice in this comparison if you want a customizable Android TV-style interface: its official page describes flexible layouts, shortcuts, wallpaper options and direct app launches. The same page promotes an ad-free interface and performance on older hardware, but its compatibility answer does not expressly name Fire TV. Treat installation and behavior on your particular Fire TV as something to verify, not as supported by that wording.
The vendor says basic use is free, while some advanced personalization options are paid through a one-time Premium purchase. Its page also describes an external lifetime license that can be activated on up to five installations. Those details do not mean payment is required for basic use; check the vendor’s current purchase information for terms and price.

LTvLauncher: check the 32-bit build against your device
LTvLauncher’s release page is useful because it distinguishes universal, 64-bit ARM and 32-bit ARM APKs, and labels the 32-bit build for Fire TV Stick models that include older devices. Match the build to your exact device architecture and review the current release notes at LTvLauncher’s releases page. The developer’s label is a compatibility lead, not proof that every listed or similarly old Fire TV model will install and run it successfully.

A Reddit reply says Wolf Launcher works on Fire OS 6.x. That report is an individual experience and does not establish which version was used, whether it is maintained, or how it behaves across models. The evidence does not settle its current compatibility with Fire OS 5, 6 or 7. Use it as a prompt to verify a specific release, not as a guarantee for your device.

Installing a launcher is different from replacing the home screen
These are three separate outcomes: installing an alternate launcher, opening it manually from the apps list or a shortcut, and having it open automatically instead of Amazon’s home screen. Evidence that an APK installs—or that a launcher opens when tapped—does not prove it can become the default or launch at boot on your Fire TV.
Community discussions include reports of delay or fallback after Fire TV home-launcher software changes, including a Projectivy thread. These are individual reports, not evidence that every Fire TV is affected. Firmware updates can change behavior, so avoid assuming a workaround or boot-launch method applies unless it is documented for your model and software version.

Choose based on the evidence you can verify
- For the clearest older-Stick build lead: inspect LTvLauncher’s 32-bit ARM release and confirm your exact architecture and model before installing.
- For customization: consider Projectivy if its Android TV-oriented feature set appeals to you, while recognizing that its official compatibility wording does not specifically confirm Fire TV support.
- For Wolf Launcher: treat Fire OS 6.x reports as anecdotal, and verify the release and automatic-launch behavior you need.
- If automatic launch is essential: confirm that exact behavior for your model and Fire OS version before investing time in setup. Do not infer it from successful installation or manual opening.
