Best Laptop Under $500? HP OmniBook 3 Deal Reported at $449.99

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

TechRadar reported on October 1, 2026, that HP US had listed an HP OmniBook 3 16-inch with an Intel Core 5 315, 8GB RAM, a 256GB SSD and Wi-Fi 7 for $449.99, against a stated prior price of $899.99. That is a reported $450 discount—not proof of the laptop’s usual market value or a price that is still live. Check HP’s current listing for the exact configuration, price and stock before buying.

Is the HP OmniBook 3 deal still under $500?

The October 1 TechRadar deal report put the specified OmniBook 3 at $449.99 on HP US. Because the price is tied to a dated promotion, it may have changed or ended. The report’s $899.99 reference price is the basis for its stated $450 saving; it does not establish the laptop’s typical selling price.

Before checkout, confirm that the retailer page still shows the price and that the listing is the 16-inch Intel Core 5 315 model—not another OmniBook 3 configuration. Check availability, shipping charges, taxes and the terms of any promotion as well. Product-family names alone are not enough to verify a match.

What configuration did the deal report cover?

Item Reported configuration
Model and processor HP OmniBook 3, 16-inch, Intel Core 5 315
Memory 8GB RAM; TechRadar says it is soldered and not upgradeable
Storage 256GB SSD
Display 16-inch 2K IPS, as described in the deal report; confirm the screen on the live SKU listing
Wireless Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, as described in the deal report; verify these options on the listing
Operating system Windows 11 Home
Reported HP US price $449.99 on October 1, 2026; current price not established by that report

These specifications refer to the deal report’s named configuration, not every laptop sold under the OmniBook 3 name. Confirm the exact SKU and options on the retailer page before relying on them.

Is 8GB of non-upgradeable RAM enough?

For light everyday use—web browsing, writing, spreadsheets, streaming and occasional video calls—8GB can be workable. It leaves less room for running many browser tabs, calls and several applications at once, and TechRadar says this model’s memory cannot be upgraded. If that workload is routine for you, compare a 16GB laptop instead of assuming you can add memory later.

RTINGS has reported sluggishness under heavy concurrent use on a separate 8GB OmniBook 3 14-inch model. That is a different laptop and configuration, so it is not a performance test of this 16-inch Intel model; it does illustrate why memory capacity matters when several demanding tasks run together.

What can you expect it to handle?

The combination of a 16-inch 2K IPS display, Windows 11 Home and an Intel Core 5 315 makes the reported configuration a plausible candidate for ordinary productivity and media use if the live listing matches and the price remains below $500. The processor name alone does not establish real-world speed, however, and the available deal report is not an independent hands-on test of this exact laptop.

Sub-$500 laptops are generally a compromise for demanding gaming, video editing or 3D work. PCWorld’s broad buying guidance for everyday productivity is to look for at least 8GB of RAM, a 1080p display and SSD storage; this reported configuration meets those baseline categories on paper, but that does not guarantee a particular level of performance.

Is it the best laptop under $500 right now?

That depends on what “best” means and which models are actually available at the time you buy. Desire Athow of TechRadar called this deal “The fastest – and I think the best – laptop you can buy under $500 right now” in an October 1, 2026 article. That is the author’s assessment of a dated deal, not a universal ranking or a guarantee that the offer remains available.

RTINGS’ September 28 guide named a different laptop, the HP OmniBook 3 14 (2025), its top under-$500 choice and the ASUS Chromebook CX15 (2026) its top Chromebook in the category. Those recommendations do not describe the 16-inch Intel Core 5 deal: the OmniBook 3 14 is a separate model, and the Chromebook runs ChromeOS rather than Windows.

HP OmniBook 3 16-inch, Intel Core 5 315 TechRadar reported $449.99 at HP US on October 1, 2026, with 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD Whether the offer is live, the exact SKU, and whether 8GB suits your workload
HP OmniBook 3 14 (2025) RTINGS named it its top under-$500 laptop in its September 28 guide; it is a separate Ryzen-based model Its current price and exact configuration; do not assume it shares the 16-inch model’s specifications

How to choose between these budget laptops

  • Memory: Compare 8GB with 16GB, and check whether the RAM is soldered or replaceable. Treat upgradeability as especially important if you expect heavier multitasking.
  • Storage: Decide whether 256GB is sufficient for your files and apps. Check the SSD type and whether storage can be upgraded rather than assuming it can.
  • Display: Compare screen size and resolution, then check brightness and touch support if those matter to you. Confirm the specific panel in the listing.
  • Software: Windows is the more direct fit if you rely on desktop Windows programs. A Chromebook may suit browser-based work and Android apps, but verify compatibility before choosing ChromeOS.
  • Workload: For browsing, documents and calls, prioritize a usable screen and enough memory. For demanding games, editing or 3D work, do not treat a low price or processor label as evidence that a budget laptop will meet your needs.
  • Total deal value: Check the live seller, exact model, stock, shipping and tax, and compare the actual price—not just the stated discount—to similarly configured alternatives.

Who should consider the OmniBook 3 deal?

It is worth considering if HP’s listing still matches the reported configuration and price, you want a large Windows screen for everyday tasks, and you are comfortable with 8GB of non-upgradeable RAM. If you regularly keep many tabs open while on calls and switching among apps, look for a verified 16GB option or choose a model whose memory can be expanded.
