The best VPN for Kodi depends first on how your device can route traffic through it. A VPN can hide your public IP address from destinations and protect the connection between your device and the VPN provider, but it cannot make an unsafe add-on safe or guarantee anonymity, streaming access, or permission under a service’s terms. The options below reflect different publishers’ assessments, not one universal ranking.
What a VPN changes when you use Kodi
A VPN creates an encrypted connection between your device and the VPN provider, and destinations generally see the VPN server’s public IP address rather than your home connection’s IP. The provider, in turn, becomes a party you must trust with your traffic. A VPN does not inspect or certify Kodi add-ons, remove malware, or guarantee that your activity is anonymous.

For Kodi, the practical question is whether the device running Kodi uses the VPN app or has its traffic routed through a VPN-enabled router or another supported configuration. A service’s compatibility with a phone or computer does not automatically mean it works on a particular TV device.

Choose by device route, privacy evidence, and use case
- Confirm the route first. Check that the VPN app supports the device where Kodi runs, or that the provider supports a router configuration that routes that device’s traffic. Read the provider’s current setup instructions for the exact model and operating system.
- Review privacy evidence. Read the privacy policy and look for independent audits, including their date and stated scope. A provider’s no-logs claim and an auditor’s review are not the same as a guarantee that no data can ever be retained or exposed.
- Check protections and performance. Look for a kill switch and leak protections on the specific app and operating system you will use. A nearby server is a reasonable starting point for ordinary performance; more distance or congestion can affect speed.
- Match the endpoint to the service. If a service is tied to a particular region, a server in that region may be needed, but access is not assured. Streaming platforms can block VPN endpoints, change enforcement, or restrict use under their terms.
- Compare total cost and limits. Check simultaneous connections, supported devices, plan duration, renewal price, and cancellation terms. A low introductory price does not establish the later total cost.
Security.org’s 2026 Kodi guide estimates 15 Mbps for 4K streaming. That is the guide’s estimate, not a guaranteed threshold for every platform, nor a promise that a VPN will maintain that throughput. Actual results depend on the connection, VPN server, device, and streaming service.

The order and available apps depend on the device. Do not assume Kodi or a VPN app is available from every device’s official store.

- Install the VPN app supported by your operating system and install Kodi from its official or otherwise appropriate source.
- Open the VPN app, connect to a server, and confirm the connection is active.
- Open Kodi and check that playback and the expected network route work.
Android TV
- Install a compatible VPN app from an available store or the provider’s supported installation method.
- Connect to the VPN and verify the app shows an active connection.
- Install Kodi from the official store or a source appropriate to your device, then test the setup.
Amazon Fire TV
Top10VPN says Kodi is not directly available from the Amazon Appstore and describes sideloading it on Fire TV. Its guide then describes installing a VPN app from the Amazon Appstore where supported. Follow current instructions for your Fire TV model and confirm that the VPN actually routes Kodi traffic; Security.org notes that some Fire TV use cases may require a VPN-enabled router.

Streaming, disconnections, and realistic expectations
Streaming access varies by provider, region, platform, and time. A review’s successful test is evidence of a particular result under its conditions, not a standing guarantee that a named catalog will remain available. Use a VPN only in ways permitted by the streaming service’s terms and applicable law.
If the VPN connection drops, a kill switch can reduce the chance that traffic leaves outside the VPN tunnel, but its availability and behavior vary by app and operating system. Check the setting before relying on it, and remember that a kill switch does not secure an add-on or fix an unsafe source.
When choosing among the listed services, start with your Kodi device and route, then weigh privacy evidence, app protections, speed and reliability, the region you need, connection limits, and the full price including renewal. Current features and availability can change, so verify them with the provider before subscribing.
