The best Kintarō build in Ravenswatch 1.06 depends on what you need the run to do. For a reliable all-purpose setup, build around Bold Strike: cancel Defense into an Attack, use Deafening Cry to control groups, and add Berserk when you can safely manage Internal Damage. Choose Crushing Combo instead for a direct Power-to-Special burst loop, or Boomerang Axe when ranged, bouncing damage is more valuable than committing to melee.
This guide covers the Kintarō DLC and version 1.06, released October 12, 2026. Existing runs were discarded by that update, so talent advice and rotations here are specifically for the current patch. There is no authoritative win-rate ranking or damage-per-second test proving one universal build is best; the recommendations below are organized by goal: solo safety, Defense-cancel damage, Power-to-Special burst, and co-op control.

How Kintarō actually works
Kintarō and Kuma are a single combat system with one shared health bar, not two independent characters. Kintarō can ride Kuma or fight on foot while Kuma attacks automatically. Damage dealt to Kuma becomes Internal Damage on Kintarō, so allowing Kuma to absorb hits still reduces the same pool of health you need to survive.
That shared bar is the central build constraint. A talent that increases damage but causes you to remain in danger can shorten a run, especially when solo. Conversely, a defensive talent can increase total damage over time by keeping you alive and preserving attack uptime.

Mounted stance
Mounted play gives Kintarō mobility and access to Charge, Leap, and a blocking Roar. Use this stance to enter or leave a fight, line up enemies, block a dangerous attack, or reposition Kuma before a burst sequence. Leap also provides an intangible transition, making it useful for avoiding damage rather than simply moving faster.
Dismounted stance
On foot, Kintarō uses Axe attacks, Whirl, and Pound. He also gains Double Leap, while Kuma continues clawing nearby enemies automatically. Dismounting therefore trades mounted mobility for more direct melee pressure and the ability to keep attacking while Kuma contributes independently.
The current ability and talent pool
Version 1.06 adds eight abilities across the two stances, two Ultimate abilities, and 26 unlockable Talents. The patch also introduced a broad talent rework, so older guides may describe choices or interactions that no longer match the current game.

Best all-purpose build: Defense-cancel damage
Bold Strike is the strongest starting point for a general-purpose Kintarō setup. The talent triggers when Kintarō cancels Defense with an Attack and adds a blocking, high-damage finisher. You gain damage and a defensive window from the same decision, which makes the build useful in both solo and co-op play.
Recommended talent order
- Bold Strike: Make the Defense-to-Attack cancel the centerpiece of your damage rotation.
- Deafening Cry: Add area damage while you are in Defense and make crowded encounters easier to control.
- Berserk: Take it when you can carry Internal Damage without letting the shared health bar reach a lethal state.
- Brutal Taming: Choose it when your first Ultimate is a major part of the run plan.
- Hardened Skin or Strong-Willed: Select one when survival, rather than raw damage, is limiting your attacks.
This order is a priority, not a rule that every run must follow. If the map is punishing you before you can establish the combo, move Hardened Skin or Strong-Willed ahead of Berserk. If a shop or drop gives you unusually strong area or cooldown support, Deafening Cry becomes even more valuable because you can control groups while waiting for the next finisher.
Core rotation
- Approach mounted: Use Kuma’s movement to choose the angle and avoid walking directly through an attack.
- Open with Roar when needed: The short blocking window lets you cross a dangerous space or hold a pack in place without immediately adding Internal Damage.
- Use Defense near the enemy group: Deafening Cry supplies area pressure while you absorb or block the opening exchange.
- Cancel Defense with Attack: Trigger Bold Strike as enemies commit to the attack. The finisher supplies the high-damage response and a blocking effect.
- Whirl or Pound after the finisher: Dismount if the group is controlled and Axe pressure can finish it quickly.
- Remount before the next dangerous pattern: Do not stay on foot simply because Kuma is still clawing. The mounted stance is your safer escape and repositioning tool.
The rhythm is deliberately defensive: block or control first, then convert that protected moment into damage. Kintarō is not at his best when he trades health for every hit.

When Berserk is correct
Berserk converts safely managed Internal Damage into additional damage. It is attractive in a build that already has Defense, Roar, Leap, and Hardened Skin or Strong-Willed, because those tools give you ways to carry some Internal Damage without immediately dying. It is a poor early choice when you are taking unavoidable hits, losing the shared bar before each encounter ends, or lacking a reliable remount window.

A version 1.06 BuildMaker example called “Def (Bold Strike)” uses Unchained Beast, Bold Strike, Deafening Cry, Berserk, Giant Carp Suplex, Forest Spirits, Energy Discharge, Hardened Skin, Strong-Willed, and Brutal Taming. It also uses defensive and damage magical objects. Treat that list as a practical route showing how the talents fit together, not as a measured tier ranking or a guarantee of the highest win rate.
Power-to-Special burst: Crushing Combo
Choose Crushing Combo when you want a simple, repeatable burst loop. The talent improves Special shortly after Power, so the build is about producing a Power trigger and following it immediately with Special while enemies are grouped.
How to play the combo
- Group targets: Use mounted movement, Charge, or an ally’s control effect to keep enemies close enough for both parts of the sequence.
- Trigger Power: Charge is a natural mounted opener, but use whatever Power source the current ability and object combination provides.
- Cast Special immediately: Do not spend several seconds repositioning after Power. The talent’s value is in the short timing window.
- Finish with Axe pressure or another cooldown: Dismount when the group is vulnerable, then use Whirl or Pound to clean up.
- Remount and reset: Leave before the shared health bar is exposed to unnecessary retaliation.
Crushing Combo is strongest when Kintarō and Kuma remain aligned with the target group. If enemies scatter, the Power and Special portions can land on different targets and the build loses much of its burst value. Area or cooldown magical objects help when available, but exact object priority is run-dependent because shops and drops are random.
When to choose Crushing Combo
- Pick it for elite encounters where a short burst window matters more than sustained blocking.
- Pick it when teammates can group enemies or hold them still.
- Pick it when your available objects improve area coverage, cooldowns, or Power frequency.
- Avoid forcing it when you are repeatedly missing the Special timing or taking damage while trying to stay close.
Safer ranged contribution: Boomerang Axe
Boomerang Axe is the alternative for players who want to contribute damage without committing to every melee exchange. When Power triggers, the talent throws a bouncing axe that can hit nearby enemies repeatedly.

The bouncing hit is particularly useful against clustered targets. You can remain mounted, throw the axe, and reposition before returning to melee. In solo runs, that gives you another way to reduce a pack without standing inside every attack. In co-op, it lets you keep dealing damage while an ally holds the frontline.

Boomerang Axe rotation
- Ride around the edge of the pack and identify a line where the axe can bounce through multiple enemies.
- Trigger Power while moving rather than stopping in the center of the group.
- Let the axe complete its bounces while Kuma attacks automatically.
- Use Roar or Leap if enemies collapse on your position.
- Dismount only after the group is weakened enough that Axe attacks will end the encounter quickly.
Boomerang Axe generally gives up some of Bold Strike’s protected melee finish for safer repeated hits. Choose it when staying alive or maintaining movement is more important than maximizing a single close-range exchange.
Solo build guidance
Solo Kintarō must protect the shared health pool without a teammate to create openings. The safest default is the Bold Strike route with at least one defensive or sustain option. Hardened Skin, Strong-Willed, and Deafening Cry all help preserve damage uptime; the right choice depends on whether the problem is incoming damage, a fragile health bar, or enemies reaching you in groups.
Mount versus dismount decisions
- Stay mounted when Charge can quickly reach a priority target, Roar can block the next attack, or Leap is the safest way through a hazard.
- Dismount when Axe pressure plus Kuma’s automatic claws can finish a controlled pack before it produces another dangerous attack.
- Remount immediately after the dismounted burst if enemies remain alive and the next attack pattern is uncertain.
Do not treat Kuma as a disposable tank. Damage to Kuma is still damage to Kintarō through Internal Damage. Roar, Leap, and Defense are ways to avoid that conversion, not permission to stand in every hit.
Solo talent priorities by problem
| What is going wrong? | First adjustment | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| You lose health while approaching groups | Deafening Cry or Hardened Skin | Area control or added protection gives you time to establish the rotation. |
| You survive but cannot finish elites | Bold Strike, then Berserk if manageable | The Defense-cancel finisher adds burst; Berserk scales damage from controlled Internal Damage. |
| You miss melee windows repeatedly | Boomerang Axe | Power-triggered bouncing axes add ranged pressure while you reposition. |
| You die while trying to use Berserk | Strong-Willed or Hardened Skin | Stabilize the shared bar before adding a talent that rewards carrying Internal Damage. |
These are tactical recommendations inferred from the documented mechanics, not results from controlled testing. The map, enemy composition, object drops, and your ability to execute the timing all change the best choice.
Co-op builds and team play
In co-op, Kintarō can function as a mobile controller and burst initiator. Use Kuma to line up Charge and Roar, hold enemies in a predictable space, then dismount for Axe pressure or a Defense-cancel finisher while teammates attack the opening.
Best co-op choices
- Bold Strike: Use the block and finisher to start a safe melee exchange while allies attack from the opening.
- Crushing Combo: Choose it when teammates can keep targets grouped long enough for Power followed by Special.
- Boomerang Axe: Choose it when another player is already occupying the danger zone and you can contribute from the edge.
- Deafening Cry: Take it when the team needs reliable area control rather than another single-target damage option.
Coordinate the shared health bar
Tell teammates that Kintarō and Kuma share one health bar. Kuma is not an independent tank whose damage can be ignored. Coordinate around Internal Damage, remount windows, and Roar blocks so the group does not assume Kintarō can hold enemies indefinitely.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
A practical co-op sequence is to have Kintarō approach mounted, use Roar or Charge to make the pack face a predictable direction, and then signal the Power-to-Special or Defense-cancel window. Allies should use their control or burst while Kintarō is protected. After the exchange, Kintarō should remount and reset rather than remain in the center waiting for Kuma’s automatic attacks to solve the encounter.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choosing between the three main builds
| Build | Main talent | Primary pattern | Best use | Main risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Defense-cancel | Bold Strike | Defense, control, then Attack cancel | All-purpose play, solo safety, protected melee | Requires learning the cancel timing and enemy attack rhythm |
| Power-to-Special | Crushing Combo | Power followed immediately by Special | Grouped enemies, elites, coordinated co-op burst | Loses value when targets scatter or timing is delayed |
| Ranged bounce | Boomerang Axe | Power-triggered bouncing axe, then reposition | Safer solo pressure and backline co-op damage | Lower commitment to melee means slower finishing when enemies reach you |
If you are unsure, start with Bold Strike. It asks you to learn the core Kintarō skill—turning a defensive moment into offense—without requiring a specific team or a perfect object drop. Move to Crushing Combo when your run consistently creates grouped targets and short burst windows. Move to Boomerang Axe when avoiding Internal Damage is the priority.
Ultimate and magical-object decisions
Brutal Taming is the talent to prioritize when your first Ultimate is central to the run. The current patch provides two Ultimate abilities, but the available evidence does not establish a universal ranking between them. Choose the Ultimate that matches your role and then decide whether Brutal Taming is worth an early talent slot.
Magical objects should support the pattern you are already executing rather than dictate a build before the run develops. Defensive and damage objects complement Bold Strike; area or cooldown objects complement Crushing Combo; movement, safety, or ranged-support objects make Boomerang Axe easier to use. Shops and drops are random, so do not assume a particular object will appear or build a route that collapses if it does not.

The version 1.06 patch notes report that using Kintarō’s Trait can interrupt the Attack and break the Attack combo. If a sequence appears to drop even though your inputs were correct, the interruption may be the current known issue rather than a failure of the Bold Strike timing. Avoid relying on Trait during a critical combo until the interaction is corrected, and be ready to remount or use Roar when the attack chain breaks.

Common mistakes and fixes
Using Kuma as a separate tank
Symptom: You leave Kuma in danger because the claws are still attacking. Fix: Remember that Kuma’s damage becomes Internal Damage on Kintarō; remount, block, or Leap before the shared bar is depleted.
Holding Defense too long
Symptom: You block safely but produce little damage. Fix: Practice canceling Defense with Attack as the enemy commits. Bold Strike rewards the transition, not passive blocking.
Taking Berserk before learning damage control
Symptom: Berserk adds damage but every encounter begins with a dangerously low health bar. Fix: Take Hardened Skin, Strong-Willed, or Deafening Cry first, then add Berserk once you can intentionally carry Internal Damage.
Breaking the Crushing Combo timing
Symptom: Power lands, but Special arrives too late to benefit. Fix: Pre-position before Power, trigger it at close range, and cast Special immediately instead of adding an extra movement step.
Staying dismounted after the pack is weakened
Symptom: A nearly defeated group produces one more attack that empties the shared bar. Fix: Finish with Axe pressure only while the group is controlled; otherwise remount and reset the fight.
Patch and evidence limits
All recommendations in this article apply to Ravenswatch version 1.06 and the Kintarō DLC released October 12, 2026. The official material establishes the shared-health mechanic, the mounted and dismounted ability split, the talent interactions, the 26-Talent pool, and the online co-op support. It does not establish a universal highest-win-rate build, a damage-per-second benchmark, or a tested solo-versus-co-op tier list.
That is why the builds are presented by goal instead of as a fabricated ranking. Your best Kintarō setup is the one whose timing, defensive tools, and object drops match the threats in the current run.
