For a better-balanced iPad mini, review app permissions and location access, check Battery settings before changing background behavior, lower screen brightness when comfortable, and adjust text size and Night Shift to suit your reading habits. These controls are available across iPad models with some variation by model, region, and iPadOS version; if a menu path differs, search for the setting in Settings.
Which privacy settings should you review?
Audit app permissions
Open Settings > Privacy & Security and review access by category, including Location Services, Contacts, Photos, Bluetooth, Local Network, Microphone, and Camera. Revoke access an app does not need for the way you use it. These controls manage the permissions an app receives through iPadOS; they do not guarantee anything about the app’s broader data practices. Choose whether apps can request tracking
Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking and review Allow Apps to Request to Track. Turning this off denies requests to track your activity across other companies’ apps and websites. It is a control for those tracking requests, not a universal blocker for every way an app or website might track activity. Apple explains the setting in Make your iPad your own.
Limit location access app by app
In Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, review each app’s access. If an app only needs to know your general area, turn off Precise Location for that app; leave it enabled when a feature depends on a more exact location. Apps with background access may trigger periodic reminders and show a map of locations they accessed. Apple’s location-sharing guide and privacy and Location Services overview explain these controls.

Turning off Location Services globally can limit important iPad features. Prefer adjusting individual apps unless you have a specific reason to disable location across the device; Apple notes that location options vary by model and region in its iPad settings guidance.
How can you improve battery life without guessing?
Check what is using power first
Open Settings > Battery and inspect usage by app and system activity. The view can distinguish On Screen from Background activity. Background work may include directions, music playback, photo syncing, or fetching mail. If an app shows unusually high background activity, consider whether you need that behavior and adjust the app or its permissions accordingly. Use that evidence rather than routinely force-quitting every app. Background activity can support features you rely on, and the available information does not establish a universal change that adds a particular number of hours.

Lower brightness when it remains comfortable
Apple says that dimming the display extends battery life. Reduce brightness to a level that is still comfortable to read in your surroundings. The brightness control is in Settings > Display & Brightness; Apple’s brightness and color guide covers the display controls.

Consider Low Power Mode and Auto-Lock
Apple lists Low Power Mode among the Battery settings and Auto-Lock under Display & Brightness. These are options to consider alongside the usage information, but no fixed runtime gain is established for changing either one. Apple’s guide to finding iPad settings points to these controls.

Increase text size to a comfortable level
Adjust text size in Accessibility settings, then try it in the apps you read most. A larger size may improve legibility, though some app layouts can feel cramped at larger settings. Apple describes text-size customization in Make your iPad your own.

Try Night Shift as a color preference
Night Shift, in Settings > Display & Brightness, shifts display colors toward the warmer end of the spectrum at night. Try it if warmer colors feel more comfortable to you; it is an optional viewing preference, not a proven treatment for eye strain or a guaranteed sleep aid. Menu labels and feature availability can vary by iPad model, region, and iPadOS release. Apple’s current User Guide names iPad mini (A17 Pro), but that does not mean every option is available on every iPad mini. If you cannot find a setting at the listed path, search for its name in Settings. Apple’s iPad User Guide provides model-specific guidance.
