If a listing calls your camera an “Instax Square 3” or “SQ3,” stop before ordering a fitted accessory. Fujifilm’s current official SQUARE documentation identifies the SQ1 and SQ40 families; “SQ3” appears in third-party compatibility wording rather than on a canonical Fujifilm product page. Confirm the model printed on your camera first.
For a confirmed SQ1, the essential purchases are FUJIFILM instax SQUARE instant film, an SQ1-specific camera case, and an album made for SQUARE prints. The SQ1 already focuses at approximately 30–50 cm for selfies and close-ups, so an add-on close-up lens is optional experimentation, not a required accessory.

Identify the camera before buying anything
Accessory compatibility starts with the body, not the word “Square” in a marketplace title. Fujifilm’s official SQUARE pages currently document the SQ1 and SQ40 families. A third-party marketplace uses “SQ3” in a compatibility description, but that wording does not establish a separate Fujifilm camera model. No canonical Fujifilm SQ3 product page is identified here.

A seller may use “SQ3” as shorthand, a typo, or a private compatibility label. It should not be treated as proof that a case fits an SQ1, SQ40, SQ6, or any other camera.

Use this model check
- Read the model name printed on the front, back, or underside of the camera body.
- Compare that name with the accessory title and compatibility list. Look for an explicit “SQ1” match rather than a broad claim such as “Instax Square.”
- For a camera labeled SQ3, ask the seller to identify the underlying Fujifilm model and provide dimensions or a return option before purchasing a fitted case.
- Do not infer that an SQ40 case fits an SQ1. Fujifilm lists those as separate model accessories.
If the body does not clearly say SQ1 or SQ40, buy only format-based items, such as SQUARE film or a SQUARE album, until the model is resolved. Those products depend on the film format rather than the camera shell.
The format that determines film and albums
The SQ1 uses FUJIFILM instax SQUARE instant film. It does not use instax mini or instax WIDE film. The exposed picture area is 62 mm × 62 mm, so both the refill and the album pockets must be made for the SQUARE format.
| Item | Officially stated figure or label | What it means when shopping |
|---|---|---|
| Compatible film | “FUJIFILM instax™ SQUARE instant film” | Choose SQUARE packs; mini and WIDE packs are different formats. |
| Picture area | 62 mm × 62 mm | Use pockets and sleeves designed for SQUARE prints. |
| Development time | Approximately 90 seconds, varying with ambient temperature | Allow about a minute and a half as a Fujifilm specification, with temperature affecting the result. |
| Camera weight | 390 g without batteries, strap, and film | A case listing should identify the camera body, not merely quote a generic SQUARE size. |
| Battery-film estimate | Approximately 30 SQUARE film packs per two CR2 batteries under Fujifilm test conditions | Carry spare CR2 batteries for extended shooting; the estimate is a test-condition figure, not a guarantee. |
How to choose a film refill
Search using “Fujifilm instax SQUARE film” or “instax Square film refill.” Before paying, check four details in the listing:
- Format: The package must say SQUARE, not mini or WIDE.
- Authenticity: Prefer a clearly identified Fujifilm product and a seller that can identify the source of the stock.
- Expiry date: Film is a recurring consumable. Confirm the date shown for the actual pack you will receive, especially when buying multipacks.
- Pack count and frame design: Count the exposures and note whether the border or frame style is plain or decorative. Calculate delivered cost per exposure rather than comparing only the headline pack price.
Because film is consumed every time you shoot, it is usually the first accessory to budget for. A case or album is a one-time purchase; film is the item that determines whether the camera can keep working on the next outing.

Best case choice: the official SQ1 Camera Case
For an SQ1, Fujifilm lists an official instax SQUARE SQ1 Camera Case. This is the clearest model-specific case recommendation because its name identifies the SQ1 rather than relying on a generic “Square” description.
When the SQ1 case is the right match
- Your camera body is explicitly labeled SQ1.
- The listing identifies the accessory as the instax SQUARE SQ1 Camera Case.
- The seller’s photos and compatibility text agree with the model name.
The case is intended for protecting and carrying the camera; it is not a substitute for an album, and it does not replace film. If you own an SQ40, choose an accessory identified for SQ40 instead. Fujifilm presents the SQ1 and SQ40 cases as separate model accessories, so “fits all Instax Square cameras” is not enough evidence for a molded case.
How to screen a generic case
A third-party case can be considered only after the model is certain. Read the exact compatibility line, compare the camera photographs, and check the return policy. Avoid ordering solely because the product title contains “SQ3” or “Instax Square.” A soft pouch with generous dimensions may be less model-dependent than a rigid shell, but the listing still needs to state what it was made to carry. The supplied specifications establish the SQ1’s body weight as 390 g without batteries, strap, and film; they do not establish dimensions for approving a case by weight alone.
Best album choice: an instax SQUARE album
Fujifilm’s catalog names an instax SQUARE ALBUM for storing SQUARE prints. Choose an album whose packaging explicitly says SQUARE and whose pockets are intended for the 62 mm × 62 mm picture area.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

Album checks before checkout
- Format label: “SQUARE” should appear in the title or specification.
- Pocket fit: The pockets must accommodate the SQUARE print area and its surrounding border; an album made for mini prints is a different format.
- Capacity: Select a page count that matches how many prints you expect to keep. If the listing does not state capacity, do not assume it.
- Orientation: Confirm whether the pockets hold the print in the orientation you prefer before buying a large album.
Keep mini albums out of the SQUARE recommendation. Their pockets are designed around a different film format, even when a seller uses “Instax” without naming the size. The camera can produce a 62 mm × 62 mm image, so the album choice should follow that measurement.
Do you need a close-up lens?
Usually, no. Fujifilm states that the SQ1’s built-in selfie and close-up range is approximately 30–50 cm. That range covers the normal reason people look for a close-up accessory: framing a nearby face or a small subject without standing at ordinary shooting distance.
Use the built-in close-up range first
- Move the subject into the 30–50 cm range.
- Compose using the camera’s close-up/selfie mode as described by the camera controls.
- Take a test frame and allow approximately 90 seconds for development, remembering that ambient temperature changes the timing.
- Only consider an optical add-on if the built-in range does not produce the framing you need.
The official pages reviewed do not list a Fujifilm SQ1 add-on close-up lens. Therefore, a clip-on lens should be treated as an unverified third-party experiment, not as an official SQ1 accessory or a necessary upgrade.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Physical fit: The clip may not clear the SQ1’s lens surround or may loosen while shooting.
- Viewfinder alignment: A lens mounted over the taking lens does not automatically align with the viewfinder, so the framed image can shift.
- Vignetting: The clip or optical element can darken the corners of the square frame.
- Focus accuracy: An add-on changes the optical setup; the camera’s stated 30–50 cm range does not certify focus through an unapproved accessory.
Buy a close-up lens only when you accept those trade-offs and can return it. For ordinary selfies and nearby portraits, the SQ1’s built-in range is the lower-risk choice.
What to buy first: accessory priorities
| Your situation | First purchase | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You have confirmed an SQ1 and no film | FUJIFILM instax SQUARE film | The SQ1 requires SQUARE film, and film is the recurring consumable. |
| You carry the SQ1 outside | instax SQUARE SQ1 Camera Case | It is the Fujifilm-listed case identified for the SQ1 body. |
| You want to preserve prints | instax SQUARE ALBUM | Its format matches the 62 mm × 62 mm SQUARE image. |
| You want closer selfies | No additional lens initially | The camera already specifies a 30–50 cm close-up/selfie range. |
| Your camera is labeled “SQ3” | Model confirmation | The label is ambiguous; fitted accessories should wait until the actual body is identified. |
A complete compatibility check before checkout
- Read the body label. Record the exact model text, including the number and any letters.
- Separate format products from body products. Film and albums should say SQUARE; a case must name the exact camera body.
- Reject mini and WIDE film. The SQ1 specification calls for FUJIFILM instax SQUARE instant film.
- Verify the print area for storage. Look for pockets intended for 62 mm × 62 mm SQUARE prints.
- Check film logistics. Confirm authenticity, expiry date, pack count, frame style, and delivered cost per exposure.
- Question “SQ3” wording. Ask the seller which Fujifilm model the term refers to; do not treat it as an official model name without confirmation.
- Assess optional optics last. Try the built-in 30–50 cm range before purchasing a generic close-up lens.
Common buying mistakes and fixes
Mistake: treating every Instax film pack as interchangeable
Symptom: A listing shows “Instax” but does not state mini, SQUARE, or WIDE. Fix: Buy only a pack labeled FUJIFILM instax SQUARE instant film for the SQ1. The picture area and cartridge format are tied to SQUARE.
Mistake: buying a mini album for SQUARE prints
Symptom: The album title says Instax but omits SQUARE. Fix: Choose an instax SQUARE ALBUM or another album that explicitly provides SQUARE-sized pockets. Mini pockets are made for a different print format.

Mistake: accepting “SQ3” as a confirmed model
Symptom: A marketplace compatibility field says SQ3, but the camera or packaging shows another designation. Fix: Verify the body label and ask the seller for a model-specific fit statement before buying a case or clip.
Mistake: adding a close-up lens before testing the camera
Symptom: You buy a clip-on optic for selfies and get misaligned framing, corner darkening, or uncertain focus. Fix: Start with the SQ1’s 30–50 cm built-in range. Treat any add-on as a returnable, third-party experiment.
Mistake: comparing film packs only by sticker price
Symptom: A larger-looking deal costs more per usable frame or has an earlier expiry date. Fix: Compare pack count, expiry, frame design, seller authenticity, and delivered cost per exposure together.

How the camera’s specifications affect accessory planning
The SQ1’s 390 g weight excludes batteries, strap, and film. A loaded camera therefore weighs more than the published body figure, which is useful when choosing how you will carry it but is not a substitute for checking a case’s stated model compatibility.
Fujifilm estimates approximately 30 instax SQUARE film packs per two CR2 batteries under its test conditions. Treat that as a planning estimate rather than a promise for every shooting pattern or temperature. If you are taking enough film for a trip, include spare CR2 batteries in the same preparation checklist.
Each print develops in approximately 90 seconds, with ambient temperature affecting the timing. Plan storage and handling around that interval instead of expecting an instant finished image immediately after exposure. An album is for completed prints; it does not accelerate development.
A practical shopping checklist
- Camera label confirmed as SQ1, SQ40, or another identifiable model.
- Film package explicitly marked FUJIFILM instax SQUARE instant film for an SQ1.
- Film expiry date visible and acceptable for your planned use.
- Pack count and frame design match your needs.
- Delivered cost per exposure calculated.
- Case title names the exact body, especially for SQ1 versus SQ40.
- Album title and pockets specify SQUARE format.
- Close-up lens postponed unless the built-in 30–50 cm range is insufficient.
- Any “SQ3” claim independently confirmed with the seller before buying a fitted accessory.
Bottom line for an “Instax Square 3” search
There is no established Fujifilm SQ3 identity in the official SQUARE pages described here, so resolve that label before purchasing a fitted case. If the camera is an SQ1, buy SQUARE film first, then the Fujifilm-listed SQ1 Camera Case and an instax SQUARE ALBUM. The 62 mm × 62 mm print area dictates album format, while the built-in 30–50 cm close-up/selfie range means a generic close-up lens is optional and carries fit, alignment, vignetting, and focus risks.
