Those design features reduce maintenance and improve outdoor use, but they do not eliminate the need to protect the camera during impacts or to carry enough power for your recording plan.

Best selfie stick: an X5-compatible invisible model
For most owners, the invisible selfie stick is the best first purchase. In a 360 workflow, the camera software can remove a correctly positioned stick from the nadir area, creating the familiar floating-camera perspective. You can then choose the direction of view later instead of committing to the framing while recording.
Check the mount before buying
Insta360 lists a 1/4-inch quick-release mounting point for the X5. The stick must have the matching compatible mount; a physically similar pole with a different thread or quick-release system is not a safe substitute. Product listings should explicitly identify X5 compatibility and the correct 1/4-inch connection.
114 cm standard stick: the general travel choice
Insta360’s official listings include a 114 cm Invisible Selfie Stick. That length is a practical compromise for walking tours, family clips and everyday travel: it creates visible separation from the camera without becoming difficult to pack or maneuver in crowds. More distance changes the apparent scale of nearby subjects and gives reframed footage a wider third-person feel, while a shorter reach is easier in tight interiors.
Action Invisible Selfie Stick: for demanding mounts
The official X5 listings also include an Action Invisible Selfie Stick. Choose this variant when your use involves more aggressive movement or an action-oriented mounting setup. Confirm the listing’s included connector and intended mounting method before purchase, because the action designation does not by itself describe every clamp, adapter or safety tether you may need.
How to get a clean invisible-stick result
- Attach the stick to the X5’s 1/4-inch quick-release point and tighten it firmly without forcing the threads.
- Keep the stick aligned with the camera’s vertical axis; a tilted connection can move hardware into a stitch line.
- Hold or mount the stick so your hand, clamp or other hardware is not unnecessarily close to either lens.
- Record a short test in the same resolution and lighting you plan to use, then inspect the stitched area before a long shoot.
- Use a wrist strap or secondary retention method for action use where a dropped camera could damage the lenses or injure someone.
A selfie stick improves viewpoint, not stabilization or battery life. If your priority is simply a stable handheld shot from a normal angle, the camera can be used without one; buy the stick when the invisible, third-person perspective is part of your intended edit.

Spare battery: official capacity and realistic runtime planning
The official X5 battery is rated at 2,400 mAh. Insta360’s published figures are laboratory results, so use them as planning estimates rather than guaranteed recording times in every temperature, resolution, frame rate or stabilization setting.

These figures come from Insta360’s 2026 product specifications. Cold weather, repeated starts and stops, wireless functions, screen use, high processing loads and battery age can all reduce the time you actually obtain. Treat the numbers as a way to size your kit, not as a promise that a battery will last exactly that long.

When a second battery is worth it
- Travel: you can continue filming while the first battery is charging at a hotel, vehicle or power bank.
- Events: a spare avoids interrupting a ceremony, concert or interview because the camera must be put away.
- Continuous outdoor shooting: hiking, cycling and other activities may not provide a convenient charging point.
- High-resolution capture: 8K30 consumes the published capacity faster than the lower-resolution Endurance modes.
If you record only short clips near a wall outlet, one battery may be sufficient. For a full day away from power, a second battery is a more dependable upgrade than relying on a single battery’s best-case runtime.
Use only an X5 battery
Insta360’s X5 User Manual states: “Only use batteries provided by Insta360 designed for X5. If you need to replace the battery, please purchase it from the Insta360 official store.” Follow that instruction rather than choosing a battery solely because its voltage, connector or capacity appears similar. Compatibility, charging behavior, thermal protection and physical fit all matter inside a sealed camera.
Battery planning checklist
- Charge the spare before leaving; do not assume a newly purchased battery arrives full.
- Label or rotate batteries so the oldest unit is not left unused for months.
- Carry the batteries in a protected case, away from loose metal objects.
- Allow the camera and battery to return toward normal temperature after demanding recording before charging.
- Keep enough storage for the additional footage a second battery makes possible.
Lens guards: Standard versus Premium
The X5 uses exposed, wide-angle lenses that are central to every 360 capture. Insta360 documents two X5-specific protection choices: Standard Lens Guards and Premium Lens Guards. Either can reduce the chance that a light knock, scrape or contact with grit permanently damages the camera’s built-in optics.

Choose Standard when your risk is ordinary
Standard guards are the sensible choice for city travel, family use and carrying the camera in a controlled environment. They protect against the minor contact that happens when a camera is set down, placed in a bag or brushed against a surface, without making the accessory more elaborate than your use requires.
Choose Premium when an impact is plausible
Premium guards make more sense for action sports, crowded events, rough transport or any situation where the camera may hit debris or another object. They are also worth considering when a bundle includes them at a price that is close to the cost of the other items you already need. “Premium” does not mean invisible in every image, however: all guards introduce an additional optical interface.
Install and inspect before an important shoot
- Clean the camera lens and the guard’s inner and outer surfaces with appropriate optical-cleaning materials.
- Install the guard exactly as the current X5 instructions show; a partial seal, trapped dust particle or skewed fit can become visible in 360 footage.
- Record a short clip containing bright lights, sky and high-contrast edges.
- Review both lenses and the stitch line for flare, ghosting, soft areas or unusual seams.
- Remove, reseat or replace the guard if the result is unacceptable; do not wait until after an irreplaceable recording.
A lens guard is sacrificial protection, not permission to handle the camera carelessly. Keep the supplied lens cap on whenever the X5 is not recording, and replace a scratched or cracked guard rather than continuing to shoot through it.
Fast Charge Case, lens cap and carry case
Fast Charge Case
A fast charge case is useful when you carry multiple batteries and want a single place to store and charge them. It reduces loose accessories in a bag and can shorten the downtime between clips when an outlet or suitable power source is available. Confirm the case’s current charging specifications and regional package contents before purchase; the Essentials bundle includes it, but no universal standalone price or charging time is stated.
Lens cap
The cap is a small but important protection layer for transport. Use it whenever the X5 is in a pocket, backpack or vehicle, especially if you have not installed guards. Keep the cap and guards clean: grit trapped against a lens can cause damage even when the cap itself is intact.

Carry case
A dedicated case is worthwhile if you regularly carry the camera with a stick, batteries and guards. It prevents the lenses from sharing a compartment with keys, sand or other hard objects. A case does not make the camera waterproof or impact-proof; it simply controls the hazards of storage and transport.
Should you buy the X5 Essentials bundle?
The Essentials bundle combines a second battery, Fast Charge Case, 114 cm Invisible Selfie Stick, Standard Lens Guards, rubber lens cap and carry case. That is a coherent starter kit because it covers power, viewpoint, lens protection and transport in one purchase.
TechRadar reported a US launch price of $659.99 for that bundle. This is historical launch pricing, not a guaranteed current price. Bundle contents, taxes, currency conversion, stock and regional availability can change, so check the live store page for your country before treating that figure as a buying benchmark.
Compare the bundle with separate purchases
- Write down the accessories you would actually buy: usually the 114 cm stick, one official spare battery and either Standard or Premium guards.
- Add the current individual prices from the same region and include any required case or charging accessory.
- Compare that total with the current bundle price, not the historical $659.99 launch figure.
- Assign a value to items you would otherwise skip. A carry case has little value if you already own a suitable case; a Fast Charge Case has more value if you carry two batteries.
- Check whether the bundle uses Standard guards when your activity really calls for Premium protection.
Buy separately when you want Premium guards, a different stick length, no carry case or the lowest initial spend. Choose the bundle when you need most of its listed contents and the live regional price is lower than the equivalent individual total.

Common buying and setup mistakes
Buying a generic stick without checking the mount
A pole that looks compatible may not fit the X5’s 1/4-inch quick-release mounting point. Confirm the exact connector and X5 compatibility in the listing before ordering.

Treating laboratory runtime as a guarantee
The 93-, 115-, 135- and 208-minute figures are controlled-test estimates. Use the mode you plan to record in, keep a margin for cold or intensive use and carry the spare before the battery indicator becomes critical.
Installing guards without an image check
Dust, fingerprints or a skewed guard can create flare and stitching problems. Test against bright lights and high-contrast edges before an important shoot, and clean or reseat the guard if artifacts appear.
Assuming Premium means zero image impact
Premium guards address protection, not the laws of optics. Because a guard adds a surface in front of the lens, scene lighting and viewing angle can affect reflections and flare. Review real footage from your intended environments.
Using an unapproved replacement battery
The X5 manual specifically directs owners to use batteries designed for the X5 and purchase replacements through Insta360’s official store. Do not substitute an unknown cell to save money.

- Define the shot: if you want a floating, third-person perspective, buy the compatible invisible stick first.
