There is no single best hybrid smartwatch for every buyer. Choose the Withings ScanWatch 2 if health monitoring, a traditional case and very long claimed battery life matter most. Choose the Garmin vívomove Trend if you want activity tracking, phone-assisted GPS, contactless payments and a more conventional smartwatch feature set. Both retain analog-style hands, but neither behaves like a full-screen smartwatch.
What a hybrid smartwatch actually is
A hybrid smartwatch combines physical watch hands and an analog-style face with a small digital display and connected features. The electronics may track activity, sleep or heart data, show selected notifications and synchronize with a phone, while the watch still looks closer to a conventional timepiece than to a touchscreen smartwatch.

The word hybrid does not describe one fixed specification. Some models have no screen at all, some hide a small OLED panel behind the dial, and others use a larger always-on display. GPS may be built into the watch or borrowed from a paired phone. Health sensors, notification controls, charging systems and battery life vary just as widely. Check the exact model rather than assuming that every hybrid offers full smartwatch functions.
Quick verdict: which model fits which buyer?
| Best for | Model | Why it fits | Main compromise |
|---|---|---|---|
| Health-focused tracking | Withings ScanWatch 2 | ECG, heart-rate features, sleep tracking, blood-oxygen measurement and temperature-variation tracking in an analog-style watch. | The 0.63-inch grayscale display is small, and the health functions have explicit medical-use limits. |
| Running, walking and cycling with a phone | Garmin vívomove Trend | Activity tracking, notifications, Garmin Pay and connected smartphone GPS. | Outdoor route tracking requires a compatible phone; battery life is much shorter than the ScanWatch 2’s rated maximum. |
| Maximum battery between charges | Withings ScanWatch 2 | Withings rates it for up to 35 days. | That is a manufacturer’s maximum claim, not an independent test result; actual life depends on use. |
| Wireless charging flexibility | Garmin vívomove Trend | Works with its proprietary clip charger and most Qi-certified wireless charging pads. | Garmin’s rated battery life is up to five days in smartwatch mode, plus one additional day in watch mode. |
Withings ScanWatch 2: the health-first hybrid
What you get
Withings positions ScanWatch 2 around health monitoring. Its listed functions include ECG readings, heart-rate features, sleep tracking, blood-oxygen measurement, temperature variation, workout temperature features, cycle tracking and a smart wake-up function. It can display notifications for calls, apps and messages from a paired phone.
#1 Best Overall
- STYLISH DESIGN, BRIGHT DISPLAY: The sleek stainless steel build blends classic style with workout durability, while the bright 1.32" AMOLED display keeps your data easy to read, even under bright sunlight.
- PRECISE HEART RATE AND SLEEP TRACKING: Amazfit's BioTracker technology tracks your heart rate and sleep data with accuracy that previous sensors just can't match.
- UP TO 10 DAYS OF BATTERY LIFE: With long battery life that lasts up to 10 days with typical use, nightly recharges are a thing of the past.
- FREE MAPS WITH TURN DIRECTIONS: Stay on-track with free downloadable maps, and get turn-by-turn guidance on-screen or via your Bluetooth headphones. Enjoy ski maps for global resorts, including guidance for cable cars, slopes, and more.
- FASTER AND MORE ACCURATE GPS TRACKING: 5 satellite positioning systems ensure fast GPS connection and accurate positioning whenever you're out running, walking, cycling or hiking.
The watch uses a 0.63-inch grayscale OLED display set into an analog-style design. The small panel is useful for a glance at a reading or notification, but it cannot present the volume of text, maps or interactive controls available on a large touchscreen watch. Expect to read short alerts and then reach for your phone for detail.
Health features and their limits
- ECG: Withings says the ECG feature has FDA clearance to detect atrial fibrillation through ECG readings. That clearance does not make the watch a general diagnostic device. Treat an alert as a reason to seek professional advice, not as a diagnosis.
- Temperature: Temperature variation is not a medical thermometer and is not a way to diagnose disease. Use the readings as the manufacturer describes and consult a clinician about symptoms or concerns.
- Oxygen, sleep and heart data: These features can help you observe trends, but the product page does not establish that they replace clinical equipment or medical evaluation.
Withings advises users to consult a doctor about health concerns. That guidance is especially important when an ECG or other reading conflicts with how you feel.
Battery, fit and durability
Withings rates ScanWatch 2 for up to 35 days of battery life. This is a maximum manufacturer estimate accessed October 13, 2026, not an independently measured endurance result. Frequent health measurements, notifications, screen use and other settings can reduce the interval between charges.
The US catalog lists 38 mm and 42 mm versions. Both use 18 mm swappable wristbands, so you can change the strap after confirming that a replacement matches the exact case and attachment. The watch is rated 5 ATM/50 m for water resistance. It supports iOS and Android.

Who should buy it
- People who want health and sleep information without wearing a large touchscreen.
- Users who value infrequent charging more than advanced on-watch apps or maps.
- Buyers who prefer a 38 mm or 42 mm analog-style case and replaceable 18 mm bands.
Do not choose it expecting a full navigation watch, a large message keyboard or clearly established onboard GPS. The available information emphasizes health monitoring and phone-connected notifications instead.
Garmin vívomove Trend: the activity-focused hybrid
GPS requires your phone
Garmin specifies that vívomove Trend uses the GPS in a compatible smartphone for outdoor walk, ride and run tracking. The watch therefore needs the phone with you, connected and able to obtain a GPS signal when you want a route or pace record. It is not equivalent to a hybrid with its own satellite receiver.
This arrangement can suit commuters, gym users and casual runners who already carry a phone. It is less suitable for anyone who deliberately leaves the phone behind during outdoor workouts.
Smart features and charging
Garmin describes the model as a hybrid smartwatch with activity tracking and essential smart features. Its product information lists notifications and Garmin Pay. Notification detail and available payment support can depend on the paired phone, account, country and participating services, so verify local availability before purchase.

Seamlessly sync with Apple Health, Google Fit, and Strava to manage fitness tracking, wellness insights, and daily activity data in one connected ecosystem.
Garmin rates the battery for up to five days in smartwatch mode, plus up to one additional day in watch mode. These are manufacturer-rated maximums, with the mode distinction stated by Garmin; they are not independent laboratory results. The watch can use Garmin’s proprietary clip charger or most Qi-certified wireless charging pads. Qi compatibility is useful if you already keep a certified charging pad at a desk or bedside.
Who should buy it
- Phone-carrying walkers, runners and cyclists who want route tracking without abandoning an analog appearance.
- Users who want notifications and Garmin Pay in addition to basic activity data.
- Buyers who prefer Qi charging flexibility and accept charging roughly weekly under typical smartwatch use.
It is a weaker fit for multi-day trips without reliable charging, or for training where carrying a phone is inconvenient.

How to choose a hybrid smartwatch without overbuying
1. Decide whether the phone must stay behind
Write down the activities you intend to record. If you need a route while running without a phone, reject models whose specifications identify only connected smartphone GPS. If you normally carry a phone, connected GPS can reduce watch complexity and may be sufficient.

2. Set a realistic screen expectation
A 0.63-inch grayscale OLED can show a glanceable value or short alert, but it is not a substitute for a full watch display. Before buying, decide whether you need maps, long messages, detailed workout screens, music controls or app installation on the watch. Those requirements generally point away from a minimalist hybrid.

3. Separate wellness trends from medical care
List the measurements that matter to you, then read the stated limitations. ScanWatch 2’s ECG clearance concerns detection of atrial fibrillation through ECG readings; its temperature feature is not a thermometer or diagnostic tool. Never select a wearable as a replacement for a clinician or approved medical equipment.
4. Compare battery claims under the same assumptions
“Up to 35 days” and “up to five days in smartwatch mode” are not directly comparable test results. They use different products, modes and manufacturer assumptions. Ask how often you are willing to charge, whether notifications and frequent measurements will be active, and whether a charger is convenient where you sleep or work.
5. Check physical fit before ordering
Measure your wrist and compare it with the available case sizes. ScanWatch 2 is listed in 38 mm and 42 mm versions and uses 18 mm swappable bands. For vívomove Trend, confirm the current case and strap dimensions on the regional product page because the supplied product details do not establish them.

Current pricing and product-line context
The Withings US catalog displayed a price of $369.95 for ScanWatch 2 when accessed October 13, 2026. The same catalog displayed $599.95 for listed ScanWatch Nova variants at that time. These are volatile US catalog snapshots, not permanent worldwide prices; recheck the current regional listing before publication or purchase.
Withings’ current catalog also lists ScanWatch Nova, Nova Brilliant and Light. Their presence in the catalog does not establish that they share ScanWatch 2’s sensors, battery claim, case sizes or water rating. Compare the exact specification page for any alternative. No comparable vívomove Trend price was established in the supplied product information, so do not infer one from another Garmin model or from an old listing.
Setup checklist for either hybrid
- Confirm compatibility: Check that your phone’s operating system and region are supported by the manufacturer’s current requirements.
- Charge the watch: Use the supplied charger or, for vívomove Trend, a compatible Qi-certified pad if you choose wireless charging.
- Install the manufacturer’s companion app: Create or sign in to the required account and keep the phone nearby during pairing.
- Allow only useful permissions: Enable notifications, health permissions and location access according to the features you plan to use. Review operating-system notification access rather than enabling every app by default.
- Configure the display and alerts: Select the metrics and calls, apps or messages you actually want to see on the small screen. Shorter, high-priority alerts are easier to read on a hybrid.
- Test one activity: For vívomove Trend, take the phone outdoors and confirm that a walk, ride or run records a GPS route before relying on it for training.
- Review health guidance: Read the manufacturer’s limits for ECG, oxygen and temperature features. Contact a healthcare professional when readings or symptoms concern you.
- Check battery behavior: Note your actual charging interval after several days with your normal notifications and measurements; do not assume the maximum claim will match your settings.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Assuming every hybrid has onboard GPS: vívomove Trend explicitly uses connected smartphone GPS. Keep the phone with you for route recording.
- Reading a small display as a full interface: Hybrid screens are designed for glances. Use the phone for long messages, maps and detailed reports.
- Treating a health alert as a diagnosis: An ECG result or temperature trend needs appropriate medical context. ScanWatch 2’s temperature feature is not a thermometer.
- Repeating a battery headline as a guarantee: Both battery figures are manufacturer maximums. Features, settings, signal conditions and usage change endurance.
- Buying a replacement band without checking attachment: ScanWatch 2 is listed with 18 mm swappable bands, but verify the exact case variant and connector before ordering.
- Assuming catalog presence means local stock: Regional availability and prices change. Check your country’s current store page.
- Expecting payment features everywhere: Garmin Pay availability depends on country, bank and participating services. Confirm support before making it a deciding factor.
Where the category came from
The hybrid idea predates the current models. On November 6, 2019, Fossil Group announced Hybrid HR with mechanical hands, an always-on display, notification features and a claim of more than two weeks with all features activated. That announcement explains the category’s design direction, but it does not establish present availability or support for that product. Current buying decisions should rely on the specifications and regional listings for models sold today.
Bottom line
Pick Withings ScanWatch 2 for the strongest documented health feature set, 38 mm or 42 mm fit options and the longest stated battery claim, while accepting its small grayscale display and health-use caveats. Pick Garmin vívomove Trend for phone-assisted outdoor GPS, activity tracking, notifications, Garmin Pay and Qi charging flexibility, while accepting that route recording depends on carrying a compatible phone and that its stated battery life is measured in days rather than weeks.
