A sensible shortlist is a high enough Kinsta tier with visible PHP-thread capacity, WP Engine after reconciling its published visit allowance with your real traffic, Rocket.net when high PHP-worker capacity and object caching matter, and SiteGround Cloud or Enterprise after its resource ceilings are confirmed. Plan for headroom, measure uncached requests and PHP/database saturation, and verify current prices and overage rules before buying.
What 5,000–15,000 daily visitors means for hosting
Multiplying daily visitors by 30 gives a planning range of approximately 150,000 to 450,000 monthly visits. It is not a universal hosting requirement: providers count visits differently, and a “visit” does not reveal how many page requests, background jobs or database queries your site generates.

| Daily visitors | Approximate 30-day visits | Why the figure is only a planning baseline |
|---|---|---|
| 5,000 | 150,000 | Cacheable pages may be served at the edge without PHP; logged-in and transactional pages still reach the origin. |
| 10,000 | 300,000 | Images, scripts, API calls and repeated page views can create more requests than the visitor count suggests. |
| 15,000 | 450,000 | Traffic spikes, search, WooCommerce and uncached personalization can require substantially more CPU, memory and database capacity. |
Ask every host how it defines a visit, whether cached requests count, what happens after the allowance is exceeded, and whether bandwidth, PHP usage or CPU can trigger an additional charge or throttling. A plan advertised for fewer visits can still work when most pages are cached, while a nominally larger plan can struggle with a busy logged-in application.
How WordPress capacity is really consumed
Full-page cache and CDN delivery
A cache stores a rendered response so a later request can be answered without running WordPress. A CDN can deliver that cached response from a nearby edge location. Anonymous article pages with a long cache lifetime are the easiest workload: they may generate little PHP or database work even at high readership.
Cache efficiency falls when pages contain personalized content, short cache lifetimes, frequent purges or query-string variations. You should measure the proportion of requests that are served from cache and identify which URLs bypass it. A homepage that is fast for anonymous visitors does not prove that checkout, account pages or an editor dashboard will remain responsive.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsPHP workers or threads
Kinsta describes PHP threads (previously called PHP workers) as “individual PHP processes responsible for handling incoming requests to your website.” Each uncached dynamic request occupies a worker while WordPress executes PHP, calls plugins and waits for database responses. If all workers are busy, later requests queue, slow down or time out.
Kinsta also warns that when a site is not cached or optimized, PHP threads can remain busy longer, causing timeouts and 503 or 504 errors. More workers help only when CPU, memory and the database can support them; otherwise they can move the bottleneck rather than remove it.

Database, object cache and background work
Search, filtering, WooCommerce carts, account pages and API endpoints commonly bypass full-page caching. They depend on database query speed, available memory, PHP concurrency and, in some cases, an object cache such as Redis. Scheduled tasks, image processing, imports, email queues and security scans also consume resources even when visitor traffic is stable.
Bandwidth and page weight
Large images, video, downloadable files and uncompressed scripts increase transfer volume. CDN bandwidth can reduce origin transfer, but the allowance and treatment of cache hits differ by provider. Record your average HTML, image and script sizes, then multiply by page views and add headroom for spikes rather than relying on visitors alone.

These characteristics are not a load test and do not establish a guaranteed speed or uptime result for your site. Plan names, prices, quotas and included features change, so confirm them on the provider’s current checkout and terms pages.
How to size a plan before you purchase
1. Separate cacheable and dynamic traffic
- Export 30 days of analytics and server logs.
- Group requests into anonymous HTML, logged-in pages, checkout or cart, search, REST or GraphQL API, webhooks and scheduled jobs.
- Record cache status for each group and calculate the percentage that reaches PHP.
- Mark traffic that arrives in bursts, such as a newsletter, news event or product launch.
A site with 300,000 monthly page views and a 95% cache-hit rate has a very different origin workload from one where 40% of requests are personalized. Show the host your dynamic request rate and peak requests per second, not just the monthly visitor total.
2. Measure the slow path
Use application monitoring, access logs and a staging copy to identify PHP execution time, database latency, slow queries, memory use and queueing. Measure an uncached page while several requests run concurrently. Capture p95 or p99 response time during a representative peak; an average can hide a queue of users waiting behind a saturated worker pool.

3. Add headroom
Do not size a plan so that normal traffic consumes all workers or memory. Leave capacity for promotions, crawler bursts, plugin updates, backups and cache misses after a purge. A practical buying rule is to select the next tier when your measured peak is close to the provider’s published ceiling, then confirm that upgrading does not require a migration or a different data center.

Choose a data-center region close to most dynamic users and verify where backups are stored. A CDN can shorten delivery distance for static and cached content, but the origin still handles uncached requests, database writes and API calls. If you have residency or contractual requirements, obtain the exact storage and backup locations in writing.
Provider-by-provider buying guidance
WP Engine: managed baseline, but reconcile the visit label
The published Essential/Startup figures—$30 USD monthly, one site, an estimated 25,000 visits per month, 10 GB storage and 75 GB bandwidth—are far below the arithmetic 150,000–450,000 monthly range in this article. That does not automatically disqualify the platform: a provider’s estimate may use a particular cache or visit-counting model, and larger plans may be available. It does mean you should not purchase the entry plan on the assumption that a high-cache site will be accepted without review.
Ask sales or support to map your analytics and cache-hit rate to the correct plan. Confirm whether logged-in requests, bots, staging environments and API calls affect the count, and request the exact overage behavior. The managed updates, CDN, backups, threat defense and WordPress-focused support are valuable when you want fewer infrastructure tasks, but they do not replace sizing PHP and database capacity for dynamic features.
Kinsta: choose by tier and uncached concurrency
Kinsta publishes 35,000-, 65,000- and 125,000-visit tiers and higher options, along with CDN bandwidth allocations. A site at the low end of this article’s range may need a tier above the headline 150,000 arithmetic once cache misses, visitors beyond the nominal month and growth are included; a site at 15,000 daily visitors should discuss a higher tier or a custom arrangement.

Use the PHP-thread documentation to explain your dynamic workload. Count simultaneous uncached requests, inspect slow plugins and queries, and verify how the selected tier exposes or limits PHP threads. Also confirm whether the visit allowance, CDN transfer and any overage are billed independently. The useful comparison is not “125,000 visits versus 300,000 visits,” but whether the tier can process your peak dynamic requests with memory and database headroom.
Rocket.net: concurrency and object caching emphasis
Rocket.net advertises unlimited PHP workers, free Redis, Object Cache Pro and fully managed WordPress infrastructure. Those features are relevant to sites with many uncached requests or database-heavy pages: object caching can reduce repeated database work, while a larger worker pool can reduce waiting when requests are genuinely parallel.
“Unlimited PHP workers” is not a promise of unlimited CPU, memory or database throughput. Obtain the exact plan’s visitor and bandwidth limits, worker behavior under sustained load, backup retention, staging options, migration process and billing terms. Test your slowest dynamic paths on the proposed configuration rather than relying on the marketing label.
SiteGround Cloud or Enterprise: verify resource ceilings
SiteGround’s managed-hosting material lists dynamic caching, daily backups, SSL, one-click installation and Cloud or Enterprise tiers. Those tiers can be a reasonable step up from entry-level shared hosting for sustained traffic, but the important specifications are the assigned CPU, PHP processes, memory, database limits and burst policy.

- Migration assistance and a documented rollback path.
Security and support
- Web-application firewall and DDoS mitigation appropriate to your exposure.
- Malware detection and a clear incident-response responsibility split.
- WordPress-aware support that can distinguish an application regression from an infrastructure fault.
- Escalation targets and support availability during traffic events.
Configuration practices that keep a busy site stable
- Cache public content: Set sensible cache lifetimes for articles and landing pages, then explicitly exclude accounts, carts, checkout and other personalized URLs.
- Optimize the slowest queries: Remove unused plugins, inspect search and reporting queries, and keep autoloaded options under control.
- Use an object cache where appropriate: Confirm that the host’s Redis implementation is persistent, isolated and compatible with your application before enabling it on production.
- Move heavy jobs off the request path: Schedule imports, image processing and bulk email work so a visitor request does not wait for them.
- Compress and resize media: Serve appropriately sized images and modern formats, while keeping originals out of the request path.
- Protect origin access: Route public traffic through the CDN and firewall, restrict administrative endpoints and use strong authentication.
- Test after every major change: Purge caches deliberately, warm critical pages, then repeat an uncached concurrency test on staging.
Migration and launch checklist
- Lower DNS time-to-live before the migration window.
- Take a restorable backup of files and the database, and verify that a test restore works.
- Clone the site to staging on the new host; test permalinks, forms, media, scheduled tasks, search, APIs and payment flows.
- Compare PHP versions, extensions, cron behavior, email delivery and object-cache configuration.
- Run authenticated and anonymous performance checks, including cache misses and concurrent dynamic requests.
- Freeze content briefly, take a final database export, and synchronize uploads.
- Switch DNS, monitor errors and origin load, and keep the old host available until rollback criteria are met.
- After propagation, confirm HTTPS, redirects, canonical URLs, robots rules, analytics and webhook destinations.
Common failure modes and fixes
503 or 504 errors during a traffic spike
Check whether all PHP workers are occupied, whether a plugin or database query has a long execution time, and whether the cache was purged shortly before the incident. Restore a known-good cache, disable the offending feature if safe, and move to a tier with more worker, CPU or memory headroom after measuring the cause.
Fast homepage, slow checkout or account pages
This usually indicates that cached anonymous HTML is healthy while dynamic requests are constrained. Profile PHP and database time on those paths, reduce plugin work, verify object caching and size the plan for concurrent uncached requests.
Unexpected overage or throttling
Compare the host’s visit definition with analytics and logs. Identify bots, staging traffic, cache misses and API calls, then ask for the precise billing trigger. Upgrade or change the cache policy only after confirming that it will not cache private content.
Performance degrades after a plugin update
Use staging and the host’s restore point to compare versions. Roll back the change, inspect new queries or external calls, and keep the previous working configuration until the vendor supplies a compatible release.
How to make the final choice
Choose WP Engine when a managed operational bundle is your priority and the provider confirms a plan that fits your real traffic model. Choose Kinsta when explicit visit tiers, CDN allocations and PHP-thread visibility help you budget and diagnose dynamic load. Choose Rocket.net when Redis, object caching and high worker capacity align with a performance-heavy application, subject to plan-level verification. Choose SiteGround Cloud or Enterprise when its broader managed feature set and assigned cloud resources meet your measured ceilings.
Whichever host you select, obtain the current plan limits and renewal price in writing, document the visit and bandwidth definitions, and retain a tested backup and rollback path. No published plan label substitutes for observing your cache-hit rate, peak uncached concurrency, PHP memory, database latency and burst behavior in production-like tests.
