DLSS 5 is not available in Hogwarts Legacy yet. NVIDIA says the update is planned for November 5, 2026, with support on GeForce RTX 50 Series PCs, GeForce NOW and RTX Spark. Until that release, tune the PC version with its existing DLSS Super Resolution, DLSS Multi Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction options. The settings below are an evidence-based method for balancing clarity, latency and frame rate; they are not a claim that one preset is fastest on every GPU or resolution.

What is the best Hogwarts Legacy settings approach for DLSS 5?

Use your monitor’s native resolution, begin with ray tracing disabled, and select the official Hogwarts Legacy quality tier closest to your graphics card. Establish a stable baseline, then change one option at a time: ray-tracing quality and geometry distance, DLSS Super Resolution mode, Ray Reconstruction and frame generation. Compare the same location and camera movement after every change. This isolates the setting responsible for a gain or loss instead of attributing an improvement to DLSS 5 before the update exists.

When the November update arrives, apply the same process to its Neural Rendering controls. NVIDIA says Avalanche Software used DLSS 5 SDK controls to tune the integration around the game’s artistic intent, but that statement is a vendor description rather than an independent image-quality test.

Is DLSS 5 available in Hogwarts Legacy?

No. NVIDIA’s current GeForce newsroom announcement says “NVIDIA DLSS 5 with 3D-Guided Neural Rendering is coming to Hogwarts Legacy on November 5th, for GeForce RTX 50 Series, GeForce NOW, and RTX Spark.” The announcement was current on October 13, 2026, so the feature is announced, not enabled in the live game at that point. Do not look for a DLSS 5 toggle in the present PC graphics menu.

The existing game support is separate:

  • GeForce RTX PCs and laptops already support DLSS Multi Frame Generation.
  • Ray Reconstruction is available for ray-traced effects on supported GeForce RTX hardware.
  • DLSS Super Resolution can be used independently of the forthcoming DLSS 5 Neural Rendering update.

The November update is described as adding DLSS Neural Rendering and upgrading the other DLSS technologies. RTX 50 hardware is named for local DLSS 5 support, but it is not a prerequisite for Hogwarts Legacy’s current graphics settings or existing DLSS features.

NVIDIA’s announcement is the source for the planned date and platforms. NVIDIA’s separate DLSS 5 newsroom article discusses the broader technology rollout, but does not establish a Hogwarts Legacy benchmark.

Which GPU supports DLSS 5 in Hogwarts Legacy?

For a local PC installation, NVIDIA names the GeForce RTX 50 Series. The announcement also lists cloud play through GeForce NOW and RTX Spark. It does not provide a complete model-by-model list, a laptop-by-laptop requirement or a minimum VRAM figure for the Hogwarts Legacy implementation. Check the supported model and driver information published with the release rather than assuming every RTX-branded product receives DLSS 5.

Older GeForce RTX cards can still use the game’s current DLSS Super Resolution and ray-tracing features where the hardware supports them. The game’s official requirements include non-RTX GPUs, so DLSS 5 compatibility and basic playability are different questions.

Official Hogwarts Legacy PC targets

Warner Bros. Games’ official PC specification page publishes four target tiers. They are system targets, not measurements of DLSS 5 and not a guarantee for every area of the game. Steam lists the same minimum GPU class and a storage requirement of 85 GB.

Ultra 4K GeForce RTX 3090 Ti or Radeon RX 7900 XT 32 GB RAM 2160p at 60 fps Ultra

Use the official PC specifications for the tier definitions and Steam’s listing for the minimum specification and 85 GB storage note. A GPU that meets the Ultra 4K line is not automatically capable of a locked 4K/60 result with ray tracing, because those figures describe an official quality target rather than a controlled graphics benchmark.

Recommended starting settings by display target

The following are starting points derived from the official tiers and the available controls. They are not tested presets. If your GPU falls between two tiers, begin with the lower tier and raise one setting at a time.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

720p and entry-level hardware

  • Use the display’s native 720p output when possible and select the Low preset.
  • Keep ray tracing off for the first baseline.
  • Use a conservative DLSS Super Resolution mode only if your GeForce RTX card offers it; inspect fine text and foliage for shimmering before accepting the higher frame rate.
  • Leave Multi Frame Generation off while establishing frame pacing. Add it only after the rendered frame rate feels responsive.

The GTX 960 and RX 470 listed in the minimum specification do not provide a universal DLSS path. On those GPUs, use the game’s conventional resolution and quality controls instead of expecting DLSS 5.

1080p at a high-quality target

  • Start with the High preset and ray tracing off.
  • Use native 1080p output and compare DLSS Quality or the closest quality-oriented mode available on your GPU.
  • If the baseline is stable, enable a single ray-traced effect and reduce its quality or geometry distance if frame pacing deteriorates.
  • Use Ray Reconstruction with ray-traced effects when the option is available.

This approach aligns with the official 1080p/60 High target without implying that every High-tier GPU reaches 60 fps in every scene.

1440p at Ultra quality

  • Begin at native 2560×1440 with the Ultra preset and ray tracing disabled.
  • Choose the highest DLSS Super Resolution mode that preserves legible HUD text, hair detail and distant geometry during camera movement.
  • Turn on ray tracing only after the non-ray-traced baseline is acceptable; tune ray-tracing quality and geometry distance separately.
  • Compare frame generation on and off, especially if input response matters more than a higher displayed-FPS counter.

4K at Ultra quality

  • Use native 3840×2160 output and the Ultra preset as the visual reference.
  • Expect to evaluate a performance-oriented DLSS mode if the native-resolution baseline is below your refresh-rate goal.
  • Keep ray-tracing quality and geometry distance conservative until you know how much GPU headroom remains.
  • Use frame generation only after the underlying rendered frame rate and frame pacing are satisfactory.

The official Ultra 4K target names RTX 3090 Ti and RX 7900 XT with 32 GB of system memory. It does not state a DLSS mode, ray-tracing mode or frame-generation setting for that target.

  • A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis

Step-by-step tuning procedure

1. Prepare a repeatable baseline

  1. Update the game and your graphics driver before comparing settings.
  2. Set the output to the monitor’s native resolution and select the official quality tier nearest to your GPU.
  3. Disable ray tracing, Ray Reconstruction and Multi Frame Generation for the first run.
  4. Use a fixed location and repeat the same camera route, including a view with foliage, distant architecture and reflective surfaces.
  5. Record average frame rate, noticeable stutter, image clarity and input response. Do not compare a crowded Hogsmeade view with an empty corridor.

2. Choose DLSS Super Resolution

On supported GeForce RTX hardware, compare the available DLSS Super Resolution modes at the same output resolution. Quality-oriented modes generally retain more source detail; performance-oriented modes reduce the internal render workload more aggressively. The correct choice depends on your GPU, monitor size and refresh rate, so judge moving edges, fine geometry and text rather than relying only on the FPS counter.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Change only this mode, repeat the same camera route and keep the result that meets your clarity threshold. If a mode introduces distracting shimmer or softens distant objects, move one step toward higher internal resolution before lowering other settings.

3. Add ray tracing deliberately

NVIDIA’s DLSS 4 coverage says a Hogwarts Legacy update improved ray-traced reflection detail, added ray-traced reflections to water including the Black Lake, and exposed quality and geometry-distance controls for ray-traced effects. These controls are the most useful levers when ray tracing looks attractive but consumes too much GPU time.

  1. Enable ray tracing with the baseline DLSS mode unchanged.
  2. Check reflective floors, windows and the Black Lake for the visual change.
  3. If performance falls below your target, lower ray-tracing quality first.
  4. If distant objects or reflections remain expensive, reduce ray-tracing geometry distance.
  5. Recheck image stability after each change; do not alter DLSS and ray-tracing settings simultaneously.

There is no published per-setting frame-rate table, so a precise “this option costs X fps” claim would not be supported.

4. Test Ray Reconstruction

Ray Reconstruction is an existing feature for GeForce RTX PCs and laptops, not a synonym for DLSS 5. With ray tracing enabled, compare it against the non-Reconstruction result in the same reflective scene. Keep the version that produces the cleaner, more stable image without violating your frame-time target.

5. Test Multi Frame Generation last

Multi Frame Generation creates additional displayed frames from rendered frames. It can raise the number shown by an FPS counter, but that does not mean the underlying game simulation or input latency improves by the same proportion. First obtain a satisfactory rendered frame rate and consistent frame pacing, then compare Multi Frame Generation on and off.

NVIDIA reports that DLSS Multi Frame Generation, used with DLSS Super Resolution and Ray Reconstruction, delivered a 4X average frame-rate multiplier on GeForce RTX 50 Series compared with its traditional-rendering baseline in its 2025 DLSS 4 announcement. The same announcement reports up to 210 fps with ray tracing and maximum settings, alongside a stated 110 fps CPU bottleneck. Those are NVIDIA’s results under its test conditions, not a promise for your processor, GPU, resolution or scene.

How to judge image quality and performance

Use more than an average FPS number. A useful comparison records:

  • Rendered frame rate: the performance before generated frames are added.
  • Displayed frame rate: the counter after frame generation, if enabled.
  • Frame pacing: whether motion is even or interrupted by spikes.
  • Responsiveness: how quickly camera and spell inputs appear on screen.
  • Image stability: shimmer, ghosting, disocclusion trails and unstable reflections.
  • Visual detail: foliage, hair, distant geometry, text and water reflections.

Keep resolution, camera route, preset and background applications constant. A setting that raises displayed FPS but produces uneven pacing or distracting reconstruction artifacts may be a poor choice for exploration and combat, even if it looks good in a static screenshot.

When to favor quality, performance or latency

Choose image quality first when

  • You play at 1440p or 4K on a large display and can see shimmering in foliage or thin geometry.
  • Your native-resolution baseline already meets the monitor’s refresh target.
  • Ray-traced reflections and water detail are central to your preference.

Choose performance first when

  • The GPU is below the official tier for your chosen resolution.
  • Camera movement exposes stutter or frame-time spikes.
  • You prefer a stable lower internal resolution over intermittent drops at a sharper mode.

Choose responsiveness first when

  • You are sensitive to latency during combat or rapid camera turns.
  • Frame generation makes the counter higher but controls feel less immediate.
  • Your rendered frame rate is too low to provide a solid base for generated frames.

No source establishes a universal best combination for every GPU, monitor or preference. Treat the official tiers as starting points and your repeatable scene comparison as the decision tool.

Common problems and fixes

There is no DLSS 5 option

That is expected before the announced November 5, 2026 update. Confirm that you are not confusing DLSS 5 with the existing Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction or Multi Frame Generation controls.

Ray tracing causes severe drops

Return to the non-ray-traced baseline, then enable ray tracing and lower its quality or geometry distance one at a time. The documented controls are intended to let you trade reflection detail and draw distance against GPU load.

Frame generation raises FPS but feels slow

Compare with Multi Frame Generation disabled and inspect rendered frame rate, frame pacing and input response. Generated frames do not remove a CPU bottleneck or guarantee proportional latency improvement.

The image looks soft or shimmers

Move to a more quality-oriented DLSS Super Resolution mode, verify the output resolution is native to the display and repeat the same moving-scene comparison. Check text, hair, foliage and distant architecture rather than judging a paused menu.

Performance varies widely between locations

Use several representative scenes and keep separate notes for dense towns, reflective water, interiors and open landscapes. A single hallway cannot represent the workload of every Hogwarts Legacy environment.

What the published evidence does—and does not—show

NVIDIA’s announcements establish the planned DLSS 5 date, named platforms, existing DLSS features and vendor-reported DLSS 4 results. The official game specifications establish hardware, memory, resolution and quality targets. None of the consulted sources supplies an independent, controlled comparison of every Hogwarts Legacy graphics setting across GPUs, resolutions and DLSS modes.

Accordingly, the settings in this guide are a reproducible tuning method rather than a laboratory-verified universal preset. They also should not be read as a guarantee that an RTX 50 Series card, a particular laptop or a cloud session will match NVIDIA’s reported figures.

Sources and update timing

The DLSS 5 date and supported platforms come from NVIDIA GeForce News. Existing feature descriptions, ray-tracing controls and NVIDIA’s 2025 performance figures come from NVIDIA’s DLSS 4 announcement. Hardware targets are listed on the official Hogwarts Legacy PC specifications page, with the minimum specification and storage listing on Steam. Because the DLSS 5 release is scheduled rather than available at the stated October 13, 2026 status date, revisit the in-game menu and release notes after November 5 for the final controls.
