For the smoothest official setup, use the native Nintendo Switch 2 Edition in handheld mode. Feral Interactive lists handheld frame-rate improvements up to 60 FPS, while the Edition also increases output resolution and upgrades visual detail in both handheld and docked play. Use Joy-Con 2 Mouse Controls when precise reticle movement matters most; gyro aiming remains an alternative for players who prefer motion controls.

The recommended Switch 2 setup at a glance

Hitman: Absolution does not require a long list of hidden tweaks on Switch 2. The important choice is the native Switch 2 Edition and the mode in which you play it. Feral presents the Edition’s resolution, animation, effects, level-of-detail, shadow and texture-filtering improvements as built-in upgrades rather than as individual sliders.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • Smoothness priority: launch the Switch 2 Edition in handheld mode. Feral’s official announcement gives handheld performance a maximum of 60 FPS.
  • Clarity priority on a television: use docked mode. Feral confirms increased output resolution and the same Edition-wide visual upgrades, but does not promise a docked 60 FPS mode.
  • Precision priority: try Joy-Con 2 Mouse Controls first. Gyro aiming is also documented for the Nintendo Switch release and can suit players who prefer motion input.
  • Visibility priority: keep the Edition’s higher resolution, improved shadows, texture filtering, level of detail and demanding-scene effects enabled. These are part of the Edition rather than optional menu values.

There is no verified Switch 2 preset such as “performance,” “quality,” or “ultra” that you need to select. The safest approach is to confirm the correct Edition, choose the mode that matches your priority, and then tune only your control method and normal display settings.

What the native Switch 2 Edition changes

The Switch 2 Edition is more than a cosmetic label. Feral’s 2026 announcement identifies several technical changes that affect how clearly you can read a scene and how fluidly you can move through it.

#1 Best Overall
Joy-Con™ 2 (L)/(R) Blue/Light Yellow
  • These updated Joy-Con 2 controllers have a color scheme inspired by Deep Cut from the Splatoon franchise. They have HD rumble, easy-to-use motion and mouse controls, and a C Button for easy GameChat* access (available in compatible games).
Edition improvement What it means while playing
Handheld frame-rate improvements, up to 60 FPS Handheld play has the highest officially stated performance ceiling, making it the first choice when responsiveness and smooth camera movement matter most.
Increased output resolution in handheld mode Characters, props and environmental edges can be rendered with more image detail on the built-in screen.
Increased output resolution in docked mode A television receives a higher-resolution output than the original Switch presentation, subject to the display you connect.
Improved demanding-scene effects Scenes with heavier visual effects receive an Edition-level upgrade; Feral does not publish a separate user control for each effect.
Improved animations Character movement and other animation work are upgraded in the native Edition.
Improved level of detail Objects and scene geometry can retain useful detail farther from the camera, helping environmental reading.
Improved shadow quality Shadow edges and contact areas receive a visual-quality upgrade that can make spaces easier to interpret.
Improved texture filtering Surfaces viewed at an angle or in the distance should retain more legible texture detail than in the original presentation.

These are Edition-wide changes, not a list of switches you must tune one by one. If a guide tells you to search the Switch 2 version for separate shadow, texture-filtering or level-of-detail sliders, treat that advice cautiously: the official announcement does not publish a complete Switch 2 graphics menu.

The practical benefit is cumulative. Higher output resolution can make a distant silhouette easier to distinguish; better level of detail keeps geometry from becoming vague as you move through a level; and improved shadows and texture filtering preserve visual cues around doorways, cover, props and walkable surfaces. None of those improvements replaces good positioning or disguise awareness, but they reduce the amount of image ambiguity you must interpret.

How to set up handheld mode for smoother performance

  1. Use the native Edition entitlement. Install or claim the Switch 2 Edition update associated with your copy of the game, then launch that Edition rather than relying on the original Switch build.
  2. Play in handheld mode. This is the mode for which Feral explicitly states frame-rate improvements to a maximum of 60 FPS.
  3. Leave the built-in visual upgrades enabled. The Edition’s increased output resolution, effects, animations, level of detail, shadows and texture filtering are presented as part of the package, not as optional quality presets.
  4. Choose an aiming method. Start with Joy-Con 2 Mouse Controls if you want small, deliberate camera and reticle adjustments. Switch to gyro aiming if motion input feels more natural or comfortable over a long mission.
  5. Evaluate movement and aiming separately. A smoother camera does not automatically make a control scheme comfortable. Test a short section with mouse controls, then repeat it with gyro aiming before committing to a longer session.
  6. Keep the console stable while testing. Compare the same checkpoint or area rather than judging performance during unrelated scenes. The official 60 FPS statement is a maximum, not a promise that every effect-heavy moment will remain at that rate.

Handheld is the strongest default for players who notice camera judder or value quick reticle response. It also avoids adding a television’s processing, scaling and picture-mode variables to the comparison. If the screen still looks soft, first verify the Edition entitlement; there is no published in-game resolution value you can manually enter.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The 60 FPS figure is an official maximum for handheld mode, not a published guarantee that every scene will hold that rate at all times. Feral does not provide a frame-time chart or independent benchmark in the announcement, so avoid treating the number as a measured average.

How to set up docked mode for a clearer picture

  1. Launch the Switch 2 Edition while docked. Feral confirms increased output resolution in docked mode.
  2. Use a display that makes resolution differences easy to see. A larger screen can make improved level of detail, texture filtering and shadow quality more apparent, although the final image also depends on the television or monitor.
  3. Keep the Edition upgrades active. The higher output resolution and improvements to effects, animations, level of detail, shadows and texture filtering are built into the Edition.
  4. Do not assume a docked 60 FPS setting exists. Feral’s announcement gives a maximum of 60 FPS for handheld mode and does not publish a docked frame-rate target or benchmark.
  5. Use your controller preference for aiming. Joy-Con 2 Mouse Controls remain the most directly documented precision option on Switch 2. Gyro aiming is an alternative when you prefer motion adjustments.
  6. Check the television’s own picture mode. Use the display’s normal game-oriented input mode if available, but do not confuse television processing options with a Hitman graphics setting. Feral does not publish recommended brightness, gamma or latency values.

Docked mode is therefore the clarity-first choice, not a mode with a documented performance advantage. The official material supports higher output resolution and visual upgrades, but it does not support a numeric docked frame-rate comparison.

A television can make small details easier to inspect, especially when you sit farther away or play with several people watching. That benefit depends on viewing distance, panel size and the display’s own scaling. It should not be described as proof that docked mode renders at a particular frame rate.

Handheld versus docked: which mode should you choose?

Decision point Handheld mode Docked mode
Official frame-rate information Feral states frame-rate improvements to a maximum of 60 FPS. Feral does not state a docked maximum or measured benchmark.
Output resolution Increased output resolution in the Switch 2 Edition. Increased output resolution in the Switch 2 Edition.
Edition visual improvements Improved demanding-scene effects, animations, level of detail, shadows and texture filtering. Improved demanding-scene effects, animations, level of detail, shadows and texture filtering.
Best use Prioritize smooth camera movement and handheld responsiveness. Prioritize a larger image and the clearest television presentation.
Control hardware Built-in controls or Joy-Con 2 can be used for the supported input methods. Joy-Con 2 Mouse Controls require compatible Joy-Con 2 hardware; gyro remains an alternative.
What is not established Feral does not publish brightness, gamma or a complete graphics-settings menu. Feral does not publish brightness, gamma, a complete graphics-settings menu or a docked frame-rate figure.

If you alternate between modes, do not expect a separate handheld “performance” switch and docked “quality” switch. The documented difference is the handheld frame-rate improvement and the shared Edition-wide rendering upgrades. Choose handheld for motion clarity and docked for screen size and viewing comfort.

Mouse controls versus gyro aiming

Both options address precision, but they do so differently. Joy-Con 2 Mouse Controls are explicitly supported by the Switch 2 Edition and are the most directly documented way to make fine camera or reticle movements. Gyro aiming is documented by Nintendo for the Switch version and uses controller motion for adjustments.

Rank #2
Nintendo Joy-Con™ 2 (L)/(R) Light Purple/Light Green
  • Only for use with the Nintendo Switch 2 system.
Control option Best fit Practical consideration
Joy-Con 2 Mouse Controls Players who want deliberate, pointer-like aim corrections. Requires Joy-Con 2 hardware and support in the Switch 2 Edition; useful when a target is just outside the center of the reticle.
Gyro aiming Players who prefer motion input or want to supplement stick aiming. Documented for the Nintendo Switch release; comfort depends on how naturally you can make small controller movements.
Traditional stick aiming Players who want a familiar, stationary setup. It remains a fallback if motion or mouse-style input feels tiring, but no special Switch 2 stick sensitivity values are published.

Mouse-style control is particularly useful for tiny horizontal or vertical corrections when a disguise, interaction prompt or moving target is near the edge of the reticle. Gyro can be more comfortable for players who prefer to make a quick physical adjustment instead of pushing a stick farther. Neither method changes frame rate or resolution, so select based on comfort and consistency rather than image quality.

Visibility and control precision are separate improvements. Resolution, shadows, texture filtering, level of detail and effects affect what the game presents on screen; mouse or gyro input affects how quickly and accurately you can move your view or reticle. Selecting one does not replace the other.

Making targets easier to identify

Use resolution and level of detail to read the scene

The Edition’s increased output resolution and improved level of detail are the most relevant upgrades when you are trying to distinguish a target from nearby characters or props. In handheld mode, they improve the built-in display’s image; in docked mode, they give a television more detailed output to work with.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Give the image a moment before moving the camera constantly. A clearer silhouette, sign or environmental edge is useful only if you let it remain on screen long enough to identify. This is one reason a stable control scheme matters as much as a sharper presentation.

Use shadows and texture filtering as visual aids

Improved shadow quality can make contact areas and scene boundaries easier to parse, while improved texture filtering helps surfaces remain legible at oblique angles and farther distances. These are documented visual improvements, not separate brightness controls, so there is no official shadow-quality number or filtering preset to enter.

Do not chase undocumented brightness values

The official Switch 2 material does not publish in-game brightness or gamma values. If the picture is too dark or washed out, the evidence supports verifying that you are running the native Edition and then using the display’s normal picture controls rather than looking for a Feral-recommended numeric setting that has not been published.

Match the mode to your viewing distance

Handheld play puts the image close to your eyes, so improved resolution and texture filtering can help with fine detail without requiring a large television. Docked play is preferable when a larger image makes targets easier for everyone in the room to follow. Neither choice changes the game’s mission rules or target behavior.

What to expect from missions, difficulty and Contracts

Settings choices matter differently depending on how you play. Nintendo lists 20 missions and five difficulty settings, including Purist. A higher-precision control method can be especially useful when a difficulty setting leaves less room for corrective aiming, while the Edition’s visual upgrades help with scene reading across the campaign.

Rank #3
Nintendo Joy-Con 2 (L)/(R) Light Blue/Light Red
  • The updated Joy-Con 2 controllers have motion controls and HD rumble 2, along with the new C Button for easy GameChat* access and all-new mouse controls in compatible games.
  • This set includes both a left and right Joy-Con 2 controller (along with a pair of Joy-Con 2 straps)—perfect for local multiplayer with a friend in compatible games.
  • Includes two Joy-Con 2 straps.
  • Only for use with the Nintendo Switch 2 system.

On lower difficulty settings, smoother camera movement may simply make navigation and observation feel more comfortable. On Purist, where mistakes can be more costly, reliable small reticle corrections and readable shadows or silhouettes can reduce avoidable errors. These are practical reasons to test your control scheme early rather than waiting until a difficult mission.

Contracts mode is cross-platform and available for Switch 2 players at release. The update describes choosing up to three targets and sharing challenges. If you are creating or replaying Contracts, mouse controls can help with small reticle corrections, while handheld mode’s official performance ceiling favors players who value responsive movement during repeated attempts.

Because Contracts supports shared challenges across platforms, the Switch 2 Edition’s control and presentation upgrades apply to a mode where you may repeat the same route several times. Keep the same display mode and input method while comparing attempts so that your own performance, rather than changing controls, is the variable you are evaluating.

Upgrade timing and ownership details

The native Switch 2 Edition launches on 22 October 2026. Existing Nintendo Switch owners can claim the upgrade free through 4 November 2026; Feral lists a paid upgrade after that window but does not state the amount in the cited announcement.

Check the entitlement attached to your copy before assuming that you are running the Edition. The visual and handheld-performance recommendations in this guide apply to the native Switch 2 Edition, not automatically to an unupdated original Switch build.

If you are purchasing around launch, the date matters: the free-upgrade period is temporary, while the Edition itself arrives on 22 October. Keep your console connected to the internet long enough to obtain the correct update or entitlement, then verify the title shown on the system before judging image quality or performance.

Limits of the published settings information

Feral’s older computer performance guide mentions controls such as resolution, shadows, texture filtering, screen-space ambient occlusion, reflections, level of detail, depth of field and bloom. Those PC options are useful technical context, but they are not confirmed as Switch 2 menu options. Do not import PC instructions into the console version unless a future Switch 2 update documents the same controls.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The available official pages also do not provide a complete Switch 2 graphics menu, exact brightness or gamma values, or measured docked frame-rate benchmarks. A precise recommendation can therefore identify the best mode and control scheme for your priority, but it cannot truthfully provide unsupported slider values or a docked FPS number.

Nintendo Neon Purple/Neon Orange Joy-Con (L-R) - Switch
  • Two Joy Con can be used independently in each hand, or together as 1 game controller when attached to the Joy Con grip
  • They can also attach to the main console for use in handheld mode, or be shared with friends to enjoy two player action in supported games
  • Each Joy Con has a full set of buttons and can act as a standalone controller, and each includes an accelerometer and gyro sensor, making independent left and right motion control possible

That limitation also applies to claims about resolution output in exact pixel counts, variable-refresh behavior, frame-time stability or a guaranteed docked refresh rate. The confirmed statements are broader: output resolution increases in both modes, handheld performance improves to a maximum of 60 FPS, and the Edition improves effects, animations, level of detail, shadows and texture filtering.

Quick troubleshooting checklist

  • The game feels less smooth than expected in handheld mode: confirm that the native Switch 2 Edition or its update is installed and that you are not launching only the original Switch version. The officially stated maximum applies to the Edition’s handheld mode.
  • The image looks soft on a television: verify that you are using the Edition and remember that Feral confirms increased output resolution, not a universal display calibration. Check the television’s input and picture mode without inventing game-side resolution values.
  • Small aim corrections feel difficult: try Joy-Con 2 Mouse Controls, then compare them with gyro aiming. The two methods change input precision; they do not alter the Edition’s visual rendering.
  • You are searching for shadow, texture, brightness or gamma sliders: the official Switch 2 announcement does not publish a complete graphics menu or numeric brightness/gamma settings. Treat any unverified list of console sliders as speculation.
  • You expect a 60 FPS docked mode: the published 60 FPS maximum is specifically for handheld mode. No docked target or benchmark is established by Feral’s announcement.
  • Mouse controls do not feel right: make sure you are using compatible Joy-Con 2 hardware, then compare mouse input with gyro in the same short mission section. Comfort is personal, and neither option is mandatory.
  • You cannot find the free upgrade: check the purchase account and the dates. The announced free window for existing Switch owners ends on 4 November 2026; Feral lists a paid upgrade afterward.

Accessory and purchase considerations

Joy-Con 2 controllers are the most relevant accessory for this setup because Feral explicitly supports their Mouse Controls. They are not required if you prefer gyro or conventional controls, and no specific retail price or stock status is established here. Buy or compare them only after confirming that the mouse-style input matches your preferred grip and play position.

The game itself is confirmed as a Switch 2 Edition with an announced upgrade path. Do not assume that every retailer listing represents a separate physical Switch 2 package, or that a listing includes the free-upgrade entitlement, without checking the seller and Nintendo account details.

Bottom line

For smoother Hitman: Absolution play on Switch 2, use the native Switch 2 Edition in handheld mode, where Feral states a maximum of 60 FPS. For the clearest large-screen presentation, use docked mode and take advantage of the Edition’s increased output resolution and improvements to effects, animations, level of detail, shadows and texture filtering. Use Joy-Con 2 Mouse Controls for pointer-like precision or gyro aiming for motion-based adjustments. Keep expectations tied to the published facts: there is no confirmed docked FPS number, complete graphics menu, or official brightness and gamma recipe.
