The right TV headphones depend first on how they connect. If your television supports Bluetooth audio, you may be able to pair standard Bluetooth headphones directly. If lip-sync or compatibility is a concern, a dedicated TV headphone system with its own transmitter dock can be a more dependable fit. Check your exact TV or receiver model and its audio outputs before choosing.
How to choose headphones for your TV
Direct pairing is not universal: the TV needs Bluetooth audio support, commonly the A2DP profile, and compatibility can vary by television and headphone model. Sony cautions that interoperability and latency are not guaranteed across devices (Sony’s Bluetooth audio compatibility guidance).

Bluetooth delay depends on the codec supported by both the source and the headphones. aptX Low Latency headphones do not deliver that benefit automatically: the TV or receiver must support the matching codec, or a compatible transmitter must be added. RTINGS notes that built-in aptX Low Latency support is uncommon in TVs and AV receivers (RTINGS’ wireless TV headphone roundup).
Dedicated systems use a transmitter dock connected to the TV, often over optical or 3.5 mm analog audio. Before buying, look for the output your TV actually has: Bluetooth audio, optical, 3.5 mm, or HDMI ARC. A dock’s connection options determine whether it will work with your TV or receiver (Crutchfield’s TV headphone connection guide).

Five TV headphone options
1. Sennheiser RS 195 RF Wireless — dedicated system for hearing customization
RTINGS names the RS 195 its best TV headphone among the models in its September 14, 2026 roundup. Its transmitter dock connects to most TVs and receivers through optical or 3.5 mm analog output and is designed for low-latency listening. Customizable hearing profiles and virtual surround make it a strong option for viewers who want to tailor sound, rather than rely only on standard Bluetooth pairing.
Trade-offs matter for long sessions: RTINGS describes the default sound as bass-heavy and says bass can change with earpad seal; glasses or thick hair may reduce it. In RTINGS’ reported use, playback is about 19 hours and a full recharge takes more than eight hours. The dock doubles as a charging stand. These are model-specific findings, not guarantees for every listener or unit.

2. Sennheiser RS 175 RF Wireless — dedicated system with simpler sound features
The RS 175 is another dock-based option for a TV or receiver, with low-latency wireless, bass boost, and virtual surround. RTINGS says its performance is similar to the RS 195 at a lower price, but it does not have the RS 195’s hearing profiles and is less sturdy. RTINGS reports around 24 hours of playback; its rechargeable AAA batteries take more than eight hours to recharge.

RTINGS names the Sonos Ace its best Bluetooth TV headphones among the models it tested. It supports aptX Low Latency, works for general phone and computer listening, and offers ANC, a warm sound profile, and a reported battery life of more than 35 hours. The low-latency codec is useful only if the TV or another source supports the matching codec; otherwise, a compatible transmitter is needed. RTINGS says native support in TVs and AVRs is rare, so verify the source before buying on the strength of aptX Low Latency alone.

4. Sony WLA-NS7 with compatible Bluetooth headphones — adapter-based setup
The WLA-NS7 is a transmitter, not a headphone. Sony describes it as an optical- and USB-powered accessory that sends TV audio to Bluetooth headphones, with compatibility varying by headphone model. Sony’s full 360 Spatial Sound and optimized Dolby Atmos experience requires a BRAVIA XR TV and selected Sony headphones (Sony WLA-NS7 product information). This setup is worth considering only after checking that your TV, headphones, and desired features match Sony’s compatibility requirements. Sony lists an MSRP, but current price and availability can change.
5. Sennheiser RS 275 with BTA1 — new dedicated bundle to consider
Sennheiser’s January 22, 2026 announcement describes a bundle comprising HDR 275 headphones and a BTA1 transmitter using Auracast powered by LC3. The company claims low-latency synchronization, range up to 50 meters, and optical, 3.5 mm, and HDMI ARC inputs (Sennheiser’s RS 275 announcement). Those are manufacturer claims; the reviewed sources do not provide independent testing of this bundle. The announcement gave a UK MSRP of £219.99 and scheduled preorders for February 3, 2026, with shipping from February 17, 2026; those dated details do not establish today’s price or stock.

Can I use Bluetooth headphones with my TV?
Yes, if the television supports Bluetooth audio and can pair with the particular headphones. The TV’s Bluetooth support and the headphone’s supported profiles and codecs determine whether pairing works and how much delay you hear. Consult the manual or support page for your exact TV model, then confirm its available audio outputs as a fallback. If direct Bluetooth pairing is unavailable or produces distracting lip-sync delay, a compatible transmitter or a dedicated dock-based system may be a better route.

Which connection path fits your setup?
- Choose direct Bluetooth when your TV supports audio pairing and you want headphones that can also serve other devices. Do not assume a headphone’s low-latency codec is supported by the TV.
- Choose a dedicated transmitter system when a simple dock connection and more predictable TV listening are priorities. Match the dock’s optical or 3.5 mm input to an output on your TV or receiver.
- Choose an adapter-based setup when you already own suitable Bluetooth headphones but need a transmitter. Confirm compatibility and any feature-specific TV requirements before purchase.
Comfort, fit, dialogue clarity, and charging routine can outweigh wireless specifications during a full movie. If possible, assess how the headphones fit with glasses and whether their sound profile suits speech. Dock-based models trade a dedicated charging place and TV connection for less flexibility than everyday Bluetooth headphones.
