For most Nintendo Switch players, Hogwarts Legacy is the best Harry Potter game overall. It is the broadest solo adventure, with an open world that includes Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, the Forbidden Forest and surrounding areas. Choose LEGO Harry Potter Collection instead if you want a lighter, family-friendly story campaign covering the complete seven-book-and-film saga. Choose Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions if matches, competitive play and online teamwork matter more than exploration.
The right choice depends less on a universal score than on the type of play you want: open-world role-playing, a shared LEGO story, or repeatable Quidditch matches. This guide compares those experiences, explains the Switch and Switch 2 version differences, and shows what each official product listing does—and does not—establish about performance and features.

Quick comparison: which Switch game fits you?
| Game | Best for | Core format | Story scope | Multiplayer emphasis | Progression and activities | Platform note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hogwarts Legacy | Best overall and best open-world adventure | Solo open-world action RPG | An original adventure set in the Wizarding World rather than a direct retelling of the seven main books | No co-op or online mode is established by the official material used here | Learn spells, brew potions, grow plants, care for magical beasts, choose a house, build relationships and develop skills | Nintendo Switch version; use the platform label shown by the retailer |
| LEGO Harry Potter Collection | Best family and shared story package | Two remastered LEGO adventures in one collection | Years 1–4 and Years 5–7, covering the complete main saga | Designed as the clearest choice for a lighter shared campaign; the listing does not specify an online player count | Spell-casting, potion-making, puzzle-solving, lessons and duelling | The original Switch listing is separate from the Switch 2 remaster announced for October 16, 2026 |
| Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions | Best for Quidditch and online competition | Match-based sports action | Career Mode plus Exhibition Matches rather than an open-world school adventure | Competitive player-versus-player matches and online co-op teams of up to three friends | Play as Chaser, Seeker, Keeper or Beater; switch between role-specific match objectives | Nintendo lists the Switch release date as November 8, 2024 |

Hogwarts Legacy is the strongest single recommendation when “Harry Potter game” means spending dozens of sessions exploring a magical world rather than replaying short matches. Nintendo describes it as an open-world action RPG, while the official game site calls it “an immersive, open-world action RPG set in the world first introduced in the Harry Potter books.”

What you actually do
The game’s appeal is breadth. You explore Hogwarts, visit Hogsmeade, travel through the Forbidden Forest and move around the surrounding areas. Exploration is tied to a character-building loop: learn spells, brew potions, grow plants, care for magical beasts, choose a house, build relationships and develop skills. Those systems make your character’s school life and travel feel like connected parts of one adventure instead of isolated activities.
That combination makes it the best fit for a player who wants to decide what to do next. You can prioritize learning and improving spells, spend time with potion and plant systems, pursue relationships, or simply investigate the locations. The official descriptions establish those activities, but they do not publish a complete activity count or a guaranteed playtime; avoid treating any online hour estimate as an official specification.
Why it wins the overall category
- Largest sense of place: the documented map extends beyond the school to Hogsmeade, the Forbidden Forest and nearby areas.
- Most role-playing depth: house choice, relationships, skills and several magical disciplines give your character more long-term development than a single match-based game.
- Flexible pacing: an open-world structure lets you alternate between exploration and school-related systems instead of following only one activity type.
- Best solo recommendation: the official descriptions focus on your character’s adventure and do not establish a co-op campaign, so solo players can choose it without expecting a party-based format.
Who should choose it
Buy Hogwarts Legacy for Nintendo Switch if you want to inhabit the setting, make a house choice, improve a character and move between several kinds of magical activity. It is also the safest choice when you are unsure what type of Harry Potter game you want, because it combines exploration, role-playing progression and world activities in one package.
Who should choose something else
This is not the first recommendation for someone whose priority is an accessible couch experience built around the complete film story, or for someone who mainly wants competitive Quidditch. The documented identity is an open-world action RPG, not a dedicated sports game or a two-part retelling of the books.

2. LEGO Harry Potter Collection: the best family and co-op story package
LEGO Harry Potter Collection combines LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1–4 and LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5–7 in one remastered collection. Nintendo’s listing specifically highlights spell-casting, potion-making, puzzle-solving, lessons, duelling and more. For families or friends who want a lighter shared campaign with a clear beginning and end, it is the most straightforward choice.
What the collection covers
The two included games divide the main saga into school years one through four and years five through seven. That gives the collection a story scope the other Switch options do not match: you are following the full central book-and-film arc rather than an original open-world story or a series of standalone matches.
Its activity mix also suits mixed-age groups. Spell-casting and duelling provide action, potion-making adds a simple magical task, lessons frame the school setting, and puzzle-solving changes the pace. Calling it “lighter” describes the family-oriented LEGO presentation and shared-campaign role, not a claim about a particular difficulty setting or performance result.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Why it is the family recommendation
- One purchase, two campaigns: both remastered parts are packaged together, so you do not need to select one school-year range and miss the other.
- Recognizable story structure: the years-based split makes it easy to follow the saga in order.
- Varied, approachable activities: the official listing names puzzles, lessons, spells, potions and duelling rather than relying on combat alone.
- Shared-play orientation: it is the clearest pick when the goal is to experience the story with family or friends, although the listing used here does not provide a specific online player limit.
Original Switch versus Switch 2: check the product label
The original Nintendo Switch listing is a separate product from the remastered collection announced for Nintendo Switch 2. The official Wizarding World showcase gives the Switch 2 arrival date as October 16, 2026. Because that date is tied to the newer console release, do not assume that a listing titled “remastered” is the same software package as the original Switch edition.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Before checkout, confirm that the product page says Nintendo Switch if you own the original console, or Nintendo Switch 2 if you own the newer system. The original Switch listing shows a required space figure of 12.1 GB; treat that as the Nintendo-published requirement for that listing, not as a universal file size for every edition or format.
Who should choose it
Choose the collection when your priority is a complete, shared story campaign with recognizable school-year progression. It is especially suitable when one player wants puzzles and exploration while another prefers spell-based action and duelling. If your main goal is to roam a larger open world or develop one character through an RPG system, Hogwarts Legacy is the better match.
3. Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions: the best Quidditch and online multiplayer game
Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is the specialist choice. Nintendo lists a Switch release date of November 8, 2024 and describes a game built around Quidditch roles, match types and online play. The official Nintendo wording invites players to enjoy Quidditch solo or share it with friends and family.

How the roles shape matches
You can play as a Chaser, Seeker, Keeper or Beater. Those positions are not cosmetic labels: they define the job you perform during a match. A player choosing this game should expect to learn how each role contributes to team play and decide whether they prefer scoring pressure, seeking, goal protection or disruption.

Modes listed for Switch
- Career Mode: a structured way to progress through the game’s Quidditch-focused content.
- Exhibition Matches: a format for jumping into individual games without committing to a longer career sequence.
- Competitive player-versus-player matches: the option for head-to-head online competition.
- Online co-op teams of up to three friends: a documented party size for cooperative online play.
These modes make it the best recommendation for repeatable match play. They do not make it a substitute for an explorable Hogwarts or a seven-part story campaign. The official material used here does not describe an open-world map, house-based school progression or the collection’s puzzle-and-lesson structure.
Who should choose it
Pick Quidditch Champions if your first question is “Can I play Quidditch with other people?” rather than “Can I explore the school?” It is the only one of these three recommendations whose documented feature set centers on competitive matches and online co-op teams of up to three friends.
Who should choose something else
If you want a long-form character journey, choose Hogwarts Legacy. If you want to follow the main story through years one to seven in a family-oriented format, choose LEGO Harry Potter Collection. Quidditch Champions is focused by design; its strength is the match, not a broad role-playing world.

Solo exploration, shared story or online competition?
Choose solo exploration for a long-running adventure
Start with Hogwarts Legacy when the setting itself is the attraction. Its documented locations and systems give you several reasons to return: travel, spell learning, potion brewing, plant growing, magical-beast care, relationships and skill development. This is the broadest activity menu in the comparison.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.

Choose a shared story for a family session
Start with LEGO Harry Potter Collection when the group wants recognizable story milestones and a more structured sequence. The years one-to-seven coverage provides an obvious route through the saga, while puzzles, lessons and duelling prevent the experience from becoming only dialogue or only combat.
Choose online matches for competition
Start with Quidditch Champions when the social goal is to play a sport together. The role list gives each participant a clear identity, and the documented online options cover both competitive player-versus-player matches and co-op groups of up to three friends.
Switch buying checklist
- Identify your console. Confirm whether you own the original Nintendo Switch family or Nintendo Switch 2.
- Read the platform line, not just the title. The original Switch LEGO Harry Potter Collection listing is distinct from the Switch 2 remaster announced for October 16, 2026.
- Match the game to your play pattern. Select Hogwarts Legacy for open-world role-playing, the LEGO collection for the full shared story, or Quidditch Champions for matches and online play.
- Check storage for the edition you are buying. Nintendo’s original Switch LEGO listing shows 12.1 GB of required space. Digital listings for other games or editions may show different requirements.
- Verify format, region and stock immediately before paying. Physical and digital availability can differ by retailer and territory; the product page’s current platform and regional information takes priority over a search snippet or an old listing.
- Confirm multiplayer expectations. The documented online team size of up to three friends applies to Quidditch Champions. Do not assume that the same online arrangement applies to the other two games.
What the available official information does not prove
Official product descriptions are enough to distinguish the three experiences, but they are not a substitute for a technical performance test. The information used for this guide does not provide an independent frame-rate measurement, a resolution comparison, load-time test or reliable review-score aggregate for the Switch editions. Therefore, no game is labeled “fastest,” “best-looking” or “highest-rated” here.
The same caution applies to features that are not named in the listings. A description of a shared campaign does not establish a specific local or online player count, and a mode list does not guarantee identical content across every platform edition. Check the exact Nintendo eShop or retailer page for the edition and console you intend to buy.
A simple decision in three questions
- Do you want to roam a magical world and build a character? Choose Hogwarts Legacy.
- Do you want the main saga in a lighter, shared campaign? Choose LEGO Harry Potter Collection, verifying whether the listing is for original Switch or Switch 2.
- Do you mainly want Quidditch matches with online competition or a small co-op team? Choose Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions.
If two answers appeal to you, use the activity that you expect to repeat most often as the tie-breaker. Exploration and character development point to Hogwarts Legacy; story completion and group-friendly puzzles point to the LEGO collection; role-based matches and online competition point to Quidditch Champions.
