Which HSW cars are best for racing in GTA Online? There is no Rockstar-published universal winner: the right choice depends on the race’s vehicle class, circuit, and whether the lobby allows HSW modifications. First confirm that your game edition and chosen car support HSW, then check the event’s rules before spending on upgrades.
What HSW upgrades do—and where they’re available
Hao’s Special Works is an in-game performance upgrade service at the LS Car Meet, not a real-world tuning shop. Rockstar introduced it for selected vehicles on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, describing the upgrades as offering “elite driving performance” (Rockstar’s March 25, 2022 announcement). Rockstar later listed HSW upgrades for PC Enhanced as well (PC Enhanced announcement).

HSW is not available across every GTA Online edition, and not every vehicle can receive the upgrades. Rockstar’s July 2026 update names the Grotti Veleno GT as an HSW-upgrade vehicle for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and GTAV Enhanced (GTAV Title Update 1.73 Notes). That is a current example, not a complete or permanent roster: eligible vehicles have expanded over time.

HSW performance only matters when the event and lobby settings permit it. Rockstar’s race rules distinguish HSW races from races featuring HSW-capable vehicles: HSW races are limited to HSW vehicles, while a lobby using HSW-capable cars can allow or disable HSW modifications. In HSW races, stock vehicles can have upgrades applied automatically (GTAV Title Update 1.64 Notes).

- Confirm edition support. HSW is documented for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC Enhanced; don’t assume it is supported in every version of GTA Online.
- Check the event type and settings. Determine whether the race requires HSW vehicles or permits HSW modifications in its lobby.
- Verify vehicle eligibility. Make sure the specific car is on the HSW roster for your edition before planning a build around it.
- Match the car to the course. Consider the race class, corner density, acceleration needs, top-speed sections, and how confidently you can keep the car stable. Rockstar’s cited material does not rank cars on these measures, so use your own race experience rather than treating any model as an official top pick.
How to decide which HSW car is best for your race
There is no substantiated, all-purpose “best HSW car” ranking in Rockstar’s cited material. Rockstar uses qualitative descriptions such as “high-performance vehicles,” but does not publish comparative lap times, handling scores, acceleration tests, or track-by-track rankings in those sources (PC Enhanced announcement). A car that suits a fast course may not be the most comfortable choice on a tight circuit.
- For a fast, open course: weigh acceleration and top speed, while checking that the event allows HSW modifications.
- For a tight, corner-heavy course: prioritize control and stability over assuming that the highest straight-line speed will win.
- For a class-restricted event: start with the eligible class and event roster, then check which cars in it support HSW.
These are selection criteria, not claims that a particular vehicle has a measured advantage. Rockstar’s March 2022 launch announcement listed five new and five existing HSW vehicles at launch; that launch figure should not be mistaken for the current total (Grand Theft Auto Community Update).

Don’t rely on an old HSW promotion
Rockstar’s GTA Online page has carried time-limited HSW-related offers, including a Penaud La Coureuse and HSW upgrade offer associated with September 2026. Such promotions can expire or change; check the current in-game offer and Rockstar’s GTA Online page rather than treating a past offer as a standing benefit.
