Keep the source frame rate, choose subtitles according to whether viewers should be able to toggle them, and preview detailed and fast-moving scenes before encoding the full video. “Streaming continuously” can also mean a YouTube Live broadcast; that is a separate workflow with different encoder settings.
Start by identifying what “streamed continuously” means
HandBrake encodes a video file; it does not send a live broadcast to YouTube. If you are preparing a long prerecorded video for upload, use YouTube’s upload guidance. If you mean a live broadcast, follow YouTube’s live encoder guidance instead. The upload bitrate figures below are not live-stream bitrate settings.

- Prerecorded video: encode the file in HandBrake, upload it to YouTube, and use the upload recommendations.
- YouTube Live: configure the live encoder or streaming service for YouTube’s live ingestion requirements, including the live bitrate and keyframe guidance.
Hindi content does not require a special video codec or bitrate. Treat the video settings according to resolution, frame rate, and SDR or HDR; preserve the Hindi audio track and handle captions separately.

Recommended HandBrake settings for a prerecorded YouTube upload
Preset and container
- Open the source in HandBrake.
- Choose the Creator preset variant closest to the source resolution and frame rate. HandBrake describes Creator presets as suitable for uploading to video-hosting services such as YouTube: HandBrake official presets.
- Use the MP4 Creator variant for a compatibility-oriented output, and verify the resulting settings in your installed HandBrake version. YouTube’s upload recommendations specify MP4 with H.264 video.
Video codec, scan and frame rate
- Use H.264 video in an MP4 container as a practical compatibility-first target.
- Use progressive scan. If the source is interlaced, deinterlace it before upload.
- Set the frame rate to match the recording; do not convert frame rates without a specific need. YouTube says content should be encoded and uploaded at the frame rate at which it was recorded.
- YouTube’s upload guidance also specifies codec details such as a closed GOP with a GOP length of half the frame rate. Check the current YouTube recommendation page and HandBrake’s actual output controls if you need to verify that parameter.
See YouTube recommended upload encoding settings. Preset names and available controls can vary by HandBrake release, so confirm the output rather than assuming every preset behaves identically.

Average bitrate or constant quality
HandBrake offers different ways to balance quality, file size and encoding time. If you choose average bitrate, YouTube’s current upload recommendations for SDR include these reference rates:

These are YouTube upload recommendations for SDR, not independent test results, Hindi-specific measurements, or a guarantee of uninterrupted playback. They are reference values, not a reason to reduce a higher-quality source unnecessarily. For other resolutions, HDR, or more detailed conditions, consult YouTube’s current upload table.

If you use constant quality, there is no single RF value established as best for every source. A quiet devotional recording, a detailed scene and fast motion can respond differently to the same setting. Encode a short preview containing representative scenes, inspect it at the intended viewing size, and adjust the quality level for the trade-off you actually want.

Hindi audio
On HandBrake’s audio selection controls, make sure the intended Hindi track is included. Automatic language selection depends on language metadata in the source; if a track is unlabeled or the wrong one is selected, choose it manually. YouTube’s upload recommendations accept AAC-LC audio and also list Opus; they recommend 48 kHz audio. Check the source and selected output track rather than assuming its language from the filename.

Hindi subtitles and captions
Import a Hindi SRT file or select a supported embedded subtitle track. Choose the subtitle behavior based on how viewers should use it:
- Burn in: captions become part of the picture and remain visible to everyone. HandBrake supports burning in a single subtitle track.
- Soft subtitles: viewers can switch captions on or off when the output container and playback path support the track. HandBrake documents that WebM does not support soft subtitles; for an MP4 workflow, verify that the chosen subtitle format is supported by your target player and YouTube processing.
Check spelling, timing, and script rendering in the preview. A subtitle track may be present but still be the wrong language or out of sync.

Preview and encode before committing to a long job
- Pick a short section containing fine detail, movement, and representative audio.
- Use HandBrake’s preview workflow to check picture quality, Hindi audio selection, and subtitle appearance or behavior.
- Adjust the quality or bitrate choice if the preview shows visible artifacts or an unnecessarily large output.
- Queue the full encode only after the preview looks and sounds right.
Encoding time depends on video length, resolution, complexity, selected settings, and computer performance. A short preview is a practical check, not a reliable promise of total encode time.
If you mean a YouTube Live broadcast
Do not copy the file-upload bitrate table into a live encoder. YouTube publishes separate live guidance covering supported protocols and codecs, bitrate ranges by resolution and frame rate, and keyframes. Its current live guidance recommends a 2-second keyframe interval, not exceeding 4 seconds. Check YouTube Live encoder settings for the applicable live configuration; those recommendations concern live ingestion, not a HandBrake upload file.

Common problems and fixes
The Hindi track is missing or plays in the wrong language
Inspect the source’s audio tracks and HandBrake’s selected track. If language metadata is absent or incorrect, choose the Hindi track manually before encoding and verify it in the preview.
Subtitles are not visible
Check that the intended subtitle track was selected. If captions must always appear, burn in the track; if they should be optional, use a supported soft-subtitle format and confirm the output path supports it.
The video looks soft, blocky or too large
Check that the output resolution and frame rate match the intended source, then review a representative preview. If using average bitrate, compare it with YouTube’s recommendation for that resolution and frame-rate class. If using constant quality, adjust based on the preview rather than assuming a universal RF value.
The file does not behave as expected after upload
Verify the exported container, video codec, progressive scan, frame rate and audio track against YouTube’s upload recommendations. Allow for YouTube processing and check playback after processing; a successful HandBrake encode alone does not establish that every playback rendition is ready.
