For a strong competitive starting point in Halo Infinite, use Resolution Scale 100%, Minimum Frame Rate 120, Maximum Frame Rate Unlimited, VSync Disabled, Quality Preset Low, Effects Quality Medium, Animation Quality Max and Simulation Quality Ultra. Then adjust the profile to your bottleneck: lower resolution scale, Global Illumination Quality and Lighting Quality when the GPU is limiting performance; test Async Compute both on and off when the CPU may be limiting it; and enable the game’s hardware-appropriate low-latency option. A 1000Hz mouse, your monitor’s highest refresh rate and a current graphics driver complete the setup.
Recommended Halo Infinite settings at a glance
Halo Support describes the following as a competitive baseline, not a universal answer. It also cautions that a profile that suits one player may not suit another, so treat these values as the first test configuration for your hardware.

| Setting | Starting value | What it does and when to change it |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution Scale | 100% | Renders at the selected display resolution. Reduce it below 100% if the GPU is overloaded; values above 100% supersample the image and cost performance. |
| Minimum Frame Rate | 120 | Lets the game reduce resolution dynamically in demanding scenes to pursue 120 FPS. Lower the target if the image becomes noticeably soft. |
| Maximum Frame Rate | Unlimited | Allows the highest peak rate your system can produce. A lower cap can improve frame-time consistency on some PCs. |
| VSync | Disabled | Minimizes queueing and allows peak FPS, but tearing can appear. Enable it only when tear-free output is more important than the lowest latency. |
| Quality Preset | Low | Sets a performance-first baseline. Raise individual options after you establish a stable frame rate. |
| Effects Quality | Medium | Keeps effects readable without spending the full GPU budget. Lower it if effects-heavy scenes cause drops. |
| Animation Quality | Max | Retains the highest animation setting in the baseline; reduce it only if testing shows a measurable bottleneck. |
| Simulation Quality | Ultra | Retains the highest simulation setting in the baseline. Lower it if the CPU is consistently saturated. |
| Async Compute | Test On and Off | There is no universal best value. It can reduce GPU overhead on a non-CPU-bound system, but may hurt performance when the CPU is the limit. |
Apply the baseline, play the same demanding map or mode for several minutes, and record sustained FPS and frame-time behavior before changing several options at once. That gives every later adjustment a meaningful comparison.
How Minimum and Maximum Frame Rate really work
Minimum Frame Rate 120
The Minimum Frame Rate control is not a guaranteed performance setting. At 120, Halo Infinite dynamically lowers internal resolution during demanding moments to try to hold 120 frames per second. This can make the picture temporarily blurrier even though the display resolution has not changed. If the resolution shift is distracting, lower the minimum target until the game can maintain it without excessive softness.

Use this control when maintaining motion clarity matters more than a perfectly constant native-resolution image. If your PC cannot approach the target even after reducing expensive settings, a lower minimum target is more honest than allowing repeated, aggressive resolution changes.
Maximum Frame Rate Unlimited
Unlimited removes the in-game ceiling, which is useful when you want the lowest possible render latency and your system can run well above the monitor’s refresh rate. It can also increase heat, power use and frame-time variance. Halo Support notes that lowering Maximum Frame Rate can produce more consistent pacing on some systems, so test a cap if your frame-time graph shows frequent spikes.
For a fixed-refresh monitor, compare Unlimited with a cap that your system can hold in the most demanding scenes. For a variable-refresh-rate (VRR) display, a controlled cap just below the practical refresh limit often prevents the display from leaving its VRR range; the exact cap depends on the monitor and your measured sustained rate.
Reduce input lag from the whole signal chain
Input delay is the sum of peripheral, PC/render and display delays, not just one graphics option. NVIDIA’s latency guidance separates those components and reports that a 125Hz mouse can add up to 3ms of average system latency compared with a 1000Hz mouse. The gain is small but measurable, especially in a game where small timing differences affect aiming.

Set the mouse and monitor first
- Use a 1000Hz gaming mouse polling rate when the mouse and operating system support it. If a high polling rate causes instability on your particular system, use the highest rate that remains reliable.
- Open Windows display settings or your monitor’s control panel and select the panel’s highest available refresh rate. A 144Hz panel, for example, should not be left at a lower default mode.
- Use fullscreen where practical. It gives the game a direct, predictable presentation path; borderless mode can be convenient, but compare latency and frame pacing on your own system.
Enable the correct low-latency option
Halo’s vendor-specific low-latency setting selects NVIDIA Reflex, AMD Anti-Lag or Intel XeLL according to the detected hardware. Enable it, then verify stability in a match or benchmark run. If AMD Anti-Lag produces hitches, Halo Support recommends turning it off rather than accepting uneven frame delivery.
If the game-level option is unavailable, NVIDIA recommends the driver’s Ultra Low Latency mode as a fallback for supported GeForce hardware. Do not stack multiple driver overrides blindly: test the in-game option first, then use the driver fallback only when necessary.
Choose VSync based on your priority
VSync disabled is the usual competitive choice because it avoids the extra queueing that can increase latency and allows the renderer to run ahead of the refresh interval. The trade-off is visible tearing when the frame rate and refresh cycle do not align.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
VSync enabled can produce a cleaner, tear-free image, but may reduce peak or average FPS and add latency. Players who value both smoothness and responsiveness can use VRR with a controlled frame cap, while understanding that the exact behavior depends on the monitor, driver and cap. NVIDIA’s competitive guidance explicitly favors turning VSync off; that is a latency recommendation, not a claim that tearing is impossible.

Tune the setting that is limiting your PC
When the GPU is at or near 99%
- Lower Resolution Scale below 100% in small increments and check whether sustained FPS rises. This is the broadest GPU-performance lever, but it also reduces image detail.
- Reduce Global Illumination Quality. Halo Support identifies it as particularly resource-intensive.
- Reduce Lighting Quality, another setting Halo Support calls out for significant performance impact.
- Lower Effects Quality if explosions, smoke or other effects cause the largest drops.
- Only then consider lowering Animation or Simulation Quality, because the competitive baseline keeps those at Max and Ultra.
Resolution Scale values above 100% supersample the frame. They can improve fine detail on a powerful GPU, but they are a deliberate performance cost and are inappropriate when the GPU is already saturated.
When the CPU is the limit
A CPU-bound system may show a GPU utilization level well below its maximum while one or more CPU threads remain busy. In that case, reducing resolution may do little. Lower Simulation Quality, reduce the Minimum Frame Rate target if dynamic resolution is causing unnecessary work, and test Async Compute in both states.
Async Compute has no one-size-fits-all recommendation. On a system that is not CPU-bound, enabling it may reduce GPU overhead and improve performance. When the CPU is already the bottleneck, the additional scheduling work can reduce performance. Keep the setting that produces the better sustained frame time on your machine, not the one that is more popular in a generic guide.

When neither utilization graph explains the stutter
Short hitches can come from drivers, background capture, shader compilation or frame-pacing conflicts. Update the graphics driver first, then disable Windows Background Recording or “Record What Happened” and retest. Halo Support also lists disabling Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling as a possible remedy for poor performance. Change one item at a time so you can identify the cause.

Two useful profiles: competitive and quality-focused
There is no single best profile because the right compromise depends on hardware tier, monitor, visual tolerance and whether you value peak latency or image quality. Use these as decision frameworks rather than rigid presets.
| Priority | Starting approach | Expected trade-offs | What to measure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Competitive latency | Use the Halo baseline: Low preset, 100% Resolution Scale, Minimum 120, Maximum Unlimited, VSync off, Effects Medium, Animation Max, Simulation Ultra. Enable the hardware-appropriate low-latency option, use 1000Hz polling and the monitor’s maximum refresh. | Higher peak FPS and lower queueing, with possible tearing and occasional resolution changes if the minimum target is difficult. | End-to-end feel, sustained FPS, worst-case frame time, GPU/CPU utilization and tearing. |
| Quality-focused play | Keep the highest Resolution Scale and visual-quality options your GPU can sustain; raise the preset or individual lighting and global-illumination settings gradually. Retain a frame cap if unlimited rendering causes uneven pacing. | Sharper lighting and effects, but lower headroom and potentially higher latency during heavy scenes. | Image clarity in motion, sustained FPS in effects-heavy areas, frame-time consistency and VRR behavior. |
| Balanced VRR setup | Use the baseline as a floor, then choose a cap that stays inside your monitor’s VRR range. Decide whether VSync is acceptable after comparing tearing and latency. | Smoother presentation than an uncapped, fixed-refresh setup, but the cap can reduce peak FPS and VSync behavior varies by display. | Refresh-range stability, tear-free motion, input feel and frame-time variance. |
Exact setup procedure in Halo Infinite
- Start the game and open Settings.
- Open the Video tab and confirm the display is running at its highest available refresh rate.
- Set Resolution Scale to 100%, Minimum Frame Rate to 120 and Maximum Frame Rate to Unlimited.
- Set VSync to Disabled for the competitive test. If tearing is unacceptable, record a second test with VSync enabled or with VRR and a controlled cap.
- Set Quality Preset to Low, Effects Quality to Medium, Animation Quality to Max and Simulation Quality to Ultra.
- Find the game’s hardware-specific low-latency option and enable it. It should select Reflex, Anti-Lag or XeLL according to your GPU.
- Set the mouse’s polling rate to 1000Hz in its configuration software, then close unnecessary overlays and recording tools.
- Play a repeatable test scenario. Note average FPS, the lowest sustained behavior you observe, frame-time spikes, GPU utilization, CPU utilization, image sharpness and tearing.
- If the GPU is saturated, lower Resolution Scale, Global Illumination Quality or Lighting Quality. If the CPU is saturated, test Async Compute on and off and consider lowering Simulation Quality.
- After each change, repeat the same scenario. Keep the setting only if the measured result or aiming feel improves without introducing a new problem.
Hardware and driver requirements
Halo Support’s published PC tiers are requirements, not guaranteed FPS targets. The high tier was listed with a Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel i7-9700K, Radeon RX 5700 XT or GeForce RTX 2070, 16GB of RAM and a 50GB SSD. The minimum tier lists a Ryzen 5 1600 or Intel i5-4440, Radeon RX 570 or GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, 8GB of RAM and a 50GB SSD. Halo Support’s hardware article was updated December 12, 2024.
| Tier | CPU examples | GPU examples | Memory | Storage | What the tier means |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | Ryzen 5 1600 or Intel i5-4440 | Radeon RX 570 or GeForce GTX 1050 Ti | 8GB | 50GB SSD | Eligibility for the minimum specification; it is not an FPS promise. |
| High | Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel i7-9700K | Radeon RX 5700 XT or GeForce RTX 2070 | 16GB | 50GB SSD | A higher requirement tier, still not a guaranteed frame-rate target. |
Install the latest PC graphics driver recommended for your GPU. Older AMD drivers are specifically associated with poor performance in Halo Support’s known-issues guidance. A faster GPU can help when rendering is the limit; a faster CPU helps when simulation or game-thread work is the limit; additional RAM can prevent paging; and an SSD is part of the stated requirement. None of those upgrades guarantees a particular FPS increase without a measurement of your current bottleneck.
Troubleshooting common problems
The game looks blurry during fights
Lower the Minimum Frame Rate target from 120, or reduce the number of expensive settings that force dynamic resolution. Confirm that Resolution Scale is not below the value you intended. Raising Resolution Scale above 100% will not fix dynamic blur; it adds supersampling cost instead.

FPS is high but aiming feels delayed
Check that VSync is disabled for the competitive test, the monitor is at its highest refresh rate, fullscreen is being used where practical and the mouse is polling at 1000Hz. Confirm the game’s low-latency option is active. If you use a frame cap, compare it with Unlimited and examine frame-time consistency rather than relying on the FPS counter alone.
Turning on Async Compute made performance worse
That result is consistent with a CPU-bound system. Turn it off and compare the same scenario. If the GPU was the limit instead, the enabled state may perform better; there is no universal value.
AMD Anti-Lag causes hitches
Disable Anti-Lag in Halo’s low-latency option, as Halo Support recommends when it causes hitches. Update the AMD driver, then retest. If stutter remains, disable Windows Background Recording or “Record What Happened,” and test with Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling disabled.

First try the monitor’s VRR mode with a controlled cap that stays within its supported range. If tearing persists and visual cleanliness matters more than the last few milliseconds, enable VSync and accept that peak FPS may fall and latency may rise.
Lowering resolution does not increase FPS
The system may be CPU-bound, frame-rate capped or limited by another setting. Check GPU and CPU utilization during the same scene, verify Maximum Frame Rate is not restricting output, and test Async Compute. Lower Simulation Quality if CPU utilization remains the limiting factor.
How to validate a setting change
- Use a repeatable scene: test the same map, mode and visual effects so results are comparable.
- Watch sustained behavior: a high menu FPS number is less useful than performance during combat, explosions and large scenes.
- Read frame time: consistent frame delivery can feel better than a higher average with frequent spikes.
- Record utilization: high GPU use points toward resolution and lighting changes; high CPU use points toward simulation, scheduling and Async Compute tests.
- Check the image while moving: a still screenshot can hide dynamic-resolution blur, shimmering or lighting artifacts.
- Change one variable: otherwise you cannot know which adjustment helped or caused a hitch.
The final profile should be the one that maintains the frame rate your monitor can display, keeps frame times predictable and gives you an image you can read while moving. Halo Support’s baseline is a sensible starting point, but your measured bottleneck decides the last settings.
