There is no evidence supporting a universal “any guitar works” rule. Compatibility is model-, edition-, platform-, and sometimes adapter-specific.

What Fortnite Festival’s guitar parts actually require
Fortnite Festival has two guitar-focused parts: Pro Lead and Pro Bass. Epic Support describes them as song parts added to all current and future Jam Tracks. A guitar controller is one way to play them, but Epic also supports compatible keyboard-and-mouse or standard-controller input. You can therefore play Festival without buying a guitar; the dedicated instrument is for the control layout and performance style, not a general entry requirement.

The table reflects the named sources, not a guarantee that later firmware or game updates have added other models. Epic’s compatibility announcement is from April 2024, so check Epic’s current list before purchasing used or unusual hardware.
PDP RIFFMASTER: the clearest new-controller choice
Choose the platform-specific version
The RIFFMASTER is not one universal console guitar with interchangeable support. Epic lists a PlayStation version for PS5 and PS4 and an Xbox version for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. For PC, Epic’s table points to the Xbox/PC version. Select the edition that matches the system on which you intend to play; do not assume a PlayStation-labeled unit will work on Xbox or that an Xbox unit automatically covers every console.
Wireless play, wired charging
PDP’s product information describes a wireless dongle connection and includes a USB-C charging cable. PlayStation Direct likewise describes wireless operation. The available specifications do not establish USB-C gameplay for the RIFFMASTER, so it should be described as wireless during play with wired charging rather than as a wired controller.

Range and battery figures
PDP/Turtle Beach lists a 30-foot low-latency wireless connection and up to 36 hours of play per charge. PlayStation Direct also lists a 30-foot range and up to 36 hours per charge. These are manufacturer or retailer specifications, not independent laboratory results. Actual range can vary with room layout, radio interference, receiver placement, and use conditions.
What the manufacturer lists beyond Festival
The manufacturer page lists Fortnite Festival and Rock Band 4 support. That makes the RIFFMASTER a current-purpose instrument rather than a controller whose suitability depends entirely on an old console accessory ecosystem. It does not, however, prove that every rhythm game or every platform supports it.
Legacy Rock Band 4 guitars: useful, but only when the model matches
PlayStation 4 Jaguar and Stratocaster
Epic’s table names the Rock Band 4 Fender Jaguar and Fender Stratocaster for PlayStation 4 and identifies them as wireless. The evidence is specific to those Rock Band 4 PS4 versions. It does not establish compatibility for earlier PlayStation guitars, other Fender revisions, third-party replicas, or a generic “Rock Band guitar” category.
Xbox One Jaguar and Stratocaster
The same named Rock Band 4 Fender models are listed for Xbox One. If you want to use the Xbox One version on a Windows 10 PC, Epic specifies Microsoft’s Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows 10. The receiver is a requirement for that documented PC scenario, not a universal solution for every instrument.
How to verify a used instrument
- Read the label, product listing, or manual for the exact game generation: it must be the Rock Band 4 Fender Jaguar or Stratocaster identified by Epic.
- Confirm the platform version. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions are different choices; the console family is not interchangeable.
- For Windows 10 use of a listed Xbox One model, obtain the Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Adapter and verify that the adapter is genuine and supported by the current PC setup.
- Ask the seller whether the guitar powers on, whether its wireless compartment or battery contacts are intact, and whether the required receiver is included. A guitar without its receiver can be unusable even when the model itself is on Epic’s list.
- Check Epic’s current compatibility information before paying, because the cited announcement dates from April 2024.
Do not infer support from a similar body shape, a shared Fender name, or a seller’s statement that an instrument worked with another rhythm game.

CRKD Gibson Les Paul: a documented multi-mode alternative
TechRadar’s 2025 hands-on review describes the CRKD Gibson Les Paul as offering three connection methods: wired USB-C, Bluetooth, and a 2.4 GHz wireless dongle. The reviewer used it with Fortnite Festival on PC. This is independent review evidence, not the same type of platform listing as Epic’s RIFFMASTER and Rock Band table.

Edition differences matter
The review distinguishes Xbox and multi-platform behavior. Before buying, identify the exact SKU and intended system. “Gibson Les Paul” alone is not enough information to establish that a particular unit will work on your console, PC, or phone-like Bluetooth host. Confirm the manufacturer’s current documentation for the edition you are considering.
When wired mode is genuinely documented
Unlike the RIFFMASTER, the TechRadar review explicitly reports wired USB-C as a connection option for the CRKD controller. That is why it is accurate to place the CRKD in a wired-and-wireless comparison, while the RIFFMASTER belongs in the wireless-play, USB-C-charging category.
Wired versus wireless: use precise terminology
Wireless gameplay
A wireless guitar sends gameplay input through a receiver or radio link. The RIFFMASTER’s supplied dongle is part of that setup, and the cited specifications give a 30-foot range. The named Rock Band 4 guitars are also identified as wireless, with the Xbox One PC case requiring a Microsoft adapter. Wireless play reduces cable clutter, but it creates another item to keep track of: the correct receiver.

Wired gameplay means the console or PC receives input over the connected cable while you play. The CRKD review reports this through USB-C. The RIFFMASTER’s charging cable should not be described that way unless a current official source explicitly adds wired gameplay support.
Charging is not the same as data input
A USB-C connector can charge a battery without carrying gameplay data. Always separate those functions in a product description and in your buying decision. A controller that charges over USB-C may still require its wireless receiver for every Festival session.
Platform-by-platform buying guide
PlayStation 5
Start with the PlayStation RIFFMASTER, which Epic lists for PS5. If you already own a Rock Band 4 Fender Jaguar or Stratocaster PS4 version, Epic’s table identifies that legacy instrument for PS4, not as a blanket PS5 guarantee. Verify current PS5 support before relying on it.

You can choose the PlayStation RIFFMASTER or one of the specifically named Rock Band 4 Fender Jaguar and Stratocaster models. For used hardware, check that the wireless components are present and that the instrument is the PS4 version.

Epic lists the Xbox RIFFMASTER for Xbox Series X|S. The cited legacy entries are Xbox One Rock Band 4 Fender instruments, so do not assume that an Xbox One guitar transfers to Series consoles without checking a current compatibility source.

The Xbox RIFFMASTER is the straightforward new purchase. The named Rock Band 4 Xbox One Fender Jaguar and Stratocaster models are the documented legacy alternatives.
Windows PC
For a new purchase, use the Xbox/PC RIFFMASTER version identified by Epic. For a legacy Xbox One Fender Jaguar or Stratocaster, Epic requires the Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows 10. The CRKD review reports PC Festival use and multiple connection modes, but edition-specific behavior still needs confirmation.
A practical setup sequence
The exact menus can change with console firmware and game updates, but the hardware checks below prevent the most common purchasing and setup mistakes.

- Identify the platform edition. Match the guitar’s PlayStation, Xbox, PC, or multi-platform labeling to the compatibility entry before connecting anything.
- Charge a rechargeable controller. Use the supplied USB-C cable for RIFFMASTER charging. Charging alone does not prove that the cable supports gameplay.

- Test every control. Check strum input, fret buttons, whammy or equivalent controls, and the menu buttons in a low-stakes song. If the system sees the guitar but a control does not respond, revisit the model-specific manual and firmware instructions.

The guitar is not detected
- Confirm that the receiver belongs to that exact controller. A receiver from another model or platform may not pair.
- Move the receiver to a direct USB port rather than a hub, then restart the console or PC.
- Recharge the guitar and repeat the pairing process.
- On Windows 10 with a listed Xbox One Rock Band guitar, verify that the Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Adapter is installed and connected.
The guitar works on one device but not another
Check the platform edition first. The RIFFMASTER PlayStation and Xbox versions are separate choices, and the CRKD review describes distinct Xbox and multi-platform behavior. Compatibility on one console does not establish compatibility on another.

USB-C charging works, but wired play does not
That result is consistent with the RIFFMASTER evidence: its USB-C lead is identified for charging, while gameplay is described as wireless. Use the supplied receiver unless current official documentation specifically confirms a wired mode.
A used guitar has no receiver
Pause the purchase until you identify the replacement receiver required by that model. Wireless instruments can be incomplete without the paired dongle or adapter, even when their buttons and battery compartment appear functional.
How to choose without overstating performance
Use this order of decisions:
- Compatibility: exact model, edition, console family, and PC operating-system requirement.
