Short answer: GTA V Enhanced includes official ray-traced effects, but Rockstar’s published descriptions do not list a native path-tracing or volumetric-cloud mode. For Rockstar-supported visuals, enable the Enhanced ray-tracing options and treat Lighting Quality as a local-light and headlight setting. For actual path-traced lighting and volumetric clouds on PC, use the separate AuraV mod for GTA V Enhanced, provided your system has an NVIDIA RTX graphics card. There is no universal best preset or verified FPS figure, so tune the effects against your own resolution and frame-rate target.

First, separate native Enhanced graphics from modded path tracing

The title combines two different feature sets. GTA V Enhanced has built-in ray-traced ambient occlusion, global illumination, shadows and reflections. Rockstar’s current descriptions and update notes do not call this a full path-tracing mode, and they do not describe a native volumetric-cloud control.

Path tracing and volumetric clouds are advertised by AuraV, a third-party mod for GTA V Enhanced on PC. AuraV’s creator says it path traces lighting, rebuilds the sky with volumetric clouds and a new atmosphere, and provides an in-game settings panel opened with F10 after you start Story Mode. Those effects should not be presented as Rockstar settings or as features available in the unmodified console game.

Route What it provides Platform and compatibility What is not established
GTA V Enhanced, unmodified Rockstar ray-traced ambient occlusion, global illumination, shadows and reflections; later Enhanced notes also add high-resolution ray-traced reflections and a second RTGI bounce. Use the Enhanced release on the platform where those options are exposed. No native path-tracing toggle or native volumetric-cloud setting is identified in the published descriptions.
AuraV mod Path-traced lighting and shadows, volumetric clouds, a rebuilt atmosphere and additional weather and lighting reworks. GTA V Enhanced on PC; the creator says it is built for NVIDIA RTX graphics cards. No minimum RTX model, recommended GPU tier, universal FPS result or standard performance cost is stated.
Console graphics modes Historical Fidelity, Performance and Performance RT targets used by Rockstar for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Console modes, not PC presets and not AuraV guidance. Those targets do not predict PC performance with Enhanced ray tracing or a mod.

Best native GTA V Enhanced settings for ray-traced visuals

If you want a supported installation with no visual mod, start with the Enhanced ray-tracing controls. The goal is to choose which ray-traced effects matter most to you rather than searching for a nonexistent “path-tracing” switch.

Enable the ray-traced effects you actually want to see

Rockstar describes Enhanced as adding ray-traced ambient occlusion, global illumination, shadows and reflections. These are separate effects. Ambient occlusion adds contact shading around nearby surfaces; global illumination affects indirect light; shadows change the accuracy of shadowing; reflections alter reflective surfaces such as cars, windows and wet roads.

Enable the effects that match your priorities, then test them in the same busy scene. A setting that looks impressive in a quiet interior may be less valuable than one that improves night driving, rain or traffic-heavy streets. Because no current source establishes a common performance cost for each control, do not assume that one setting is always the fastest or slowest on every PC.

Use the newer reflection and RTGI controls deliberately

Rockstar’s Title Update 1.71 notes add an option for high-resolution ray-traced reflections. If reflections are your main reason for enabling ray tracing, this is the native control to test first. It can matter most on glass, polished vehicle paint and wet surfaces, but the update notes do not publish a universal frame-rate penalty.

The same Enhanced notes add a second RTGI bounce. A second bounce can make indirect illumination look more natural in scenes where light reflects between surfaces, but it is still an optional quality trade-off. Enable it only after confirming that your normal driving route and most demanding weather remain within your chosen frame-rate target.

Do not mistake Lighting Quality for cloud quality

Rockstar’s description of Lighting Quality is narrower than the wording many PC guides use. The setting adjusts shadows cast by vehicle headlights and enables volumetric lighting effects for some local light sources. It is not described as a volumetric-cloud control.

That means raising Lighting Quality may improve the appearance of headlights in darkness, street lights in haze or other local sources, but it does not turn the ordinary sky into a volumetric cloud system. If clouds are your objective, native Lighting Quality cannot substitute for a feature that Rockstar has not listed as built in.

  • Quality Visuals: The VG270K 27" IPS monitor with 3840 x 2160 UHD resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio presents stunning, high-quality images with excellent detail. The zero-frame design does away with the thick frames found on conventional monitors freeing up precious screen space.
  • AMD FreeSync Premium Technology: Say “goodbye” to stuttering and tearing. With AMD FreeSync Premium, the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphics card’s frames, which eliminates screen tearing and provides the smoothest gaming experience.
  • Quick Refresh Rate: Different content has different refresh rate and resolution requirements. If you are playing an FPS or racing game, you will need a monitor with a high refresh rate. However, if you are doing office work or streaming videos, a higher resolution will be more beneficial. With DFR technology, users can choose a higher resolution, or a higher refresh rate based on what is suitable for them.
  • Responsive: Up to 0.5ms GTG (Gray to Gray) response time enhanced gamers’ in-game experience. No matter if the fast-moving action or any dramatic transitions will be rendered smoothly without the annoying effects of smearing or ghosting.
  • ZeroFrame Design: With a Nitro VG270K monitor, you’ll want to see as much of the display as possible. Get more real estate with the near bezel-less design, allowing you to see more and do more. The ZeroFrame design lets you place multiple monitors next to each other for a seamless, almost uninterrupted view.

Understand the fog-volume command

The PC command-line reference includes -fogVolumes, which enables lights’ volumetric effects in foggy weather. This command concerns volumetric light behavior in fog; it is not evidence of a native volumetric-cloud renderer. Use that distinction when diagnosing screenshots or comparing settings: fog beams and cloud volume are different effects.

How to get path-traced lighting and volumetric clouds with AuraV

AuraV is the route for readers who specifically want the two effects named in the title. The creator describes it as a mod for GTA V Enhanced on PC, built for NVIDIA RTX graphics cards. The published material does not specify a minimum RTX model or a recommended tier, so no particular card can be called necessary or sufficient from the available evidence.

Check the prerequisites before changing settings

  • Use the Enhanced PC version of GTA V. AuraV is not presented as a console mod or as a feature of the unmodified game.
  • Use an NVIDIA RTX graphics card. The creator identifies RTX hardware as the target, but does not publish a minimum model.
  • Start the game in Story Mode before opening AuraV’s controls. The creator says the settings panel is accessed with F10 after Story Mode starts.
  • Keep a backup of your existing configuration and be prepared to remove or disable the mod if the game does not start correctly. The available documentation does not establish compatibility with every other mod or every future game update.

Open the AuraV settings panel

  1. Launch GTA V Enhanced on PC with AuraV installed according to the creator’s current documentation.
  2. Enter Story Mode. AuraV’s creator specifies Story Mode as the point at which its in-game settings are available.
  3. Press F10 to open the AuraV settings panel.
  4. Enable the path-traced lighting and volumetric-cloud features you want to evaluate.
  5. Apply one change at a time and revisit the same test locations before changing another option.

The exact installation files, loader requirements and compatibility list can change as the mod and Enhanced patches change. Follow the creator’s current documentation for those operational details rather than copying an old file list from an unrelated guide.

What AuraV changes beyond clouds and path tracing

The creator describes AuraV as rebuilding the sky with volumetric clouds and a new atmosphere. It also reworks ocean waves shaped by wind, rain, lightning, heat haze, smoke and skin lighting. These additions explain why a modded scene may look different even when you are evaluating a single cloud or lighting option: the mod changes several parts of the environment at once.

“It path traces the lighting, rebuilds the sky with volumetric clouds and a new atmosphere, gives the ocean waves shaped by the wind, and reworks rain, lightning, heat haze, smoke and skin lighting.”

Because AuraV is a broad visual overhaul rather than a single cloud shader, compare it with the unmodified game using the same time of day, weather and camera position. Otherwise, you may attribute a difference caused by atmosphere or rain to the path-tracing option itself.

  • Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort

Choose a practical quality profile

There is no published universal preset, so choose a profile based on what you value. These are decision frameworks, not guaranteed FPS configurations.

Your priority Native Enhanced approach AuraV approach How to validate it
Maximum supported image quality Enable the available ray-traced effects, then test high-resolution ray-traced reflections and the second RTGI bounce. Enable path-traced lighting and volumetric clouds, then inspect weather, night scenes and reflective surfaces. Use the same route and weather repeatedly; keep the profile only if motion remains acceptable.
Stable motion Start with the ray-traced effects most visible to you and leave optional reflection resolution or the second RTGI bounce off if they disrupt your target. Begin with the features you care about most, then disable or reduce optional AuraV effects one at a time when frame pacing suffers. Watch for stutter during driving, rain, smoke, dense traffic and rapid camera movement rather than judging a static screenshot.
Reflections first Prioritize ray-traced reflections and test the high-resolution reflections option. Compare reflective vehicles, windows and wet roads with path-traced lighting enabled. Use dawn, night and rainy scenes; record which change is visible before keeping it.
Clouds and atmosphere first Do not expect native settings to create volumetric clouds; Lighting Quality and -fogVolumes address local volumetric lighting and fog. Enable AuraV’s volumetric-cloud and atmosphere features through its F10 panel in Story Mode. Compare a broad sky view, cloud edges, haze and changing weather at the same location.

A repeatable way to tune performance

Since no comparable benchmark establishes a fixed FPS cost for Enhanced ray tracing or AuraV controls, use a controlled test instead of copying a number from another PC.

  1. Set your target first. Decide whether you are optimizing for a fixed refresh-rate target, a stable console-like experience or the highest image quality you can tolerate. The target belongs to your display and your preferences; it is not supplied by the mod documentation.
  2. Choose a repeatable scene. Test a demanding driving route, a night scene with headlights, a rainy street and an open area with a large sky. Clouds and local volumetric lights do not stress the same situations.
  3. Record a baseline. Note the active ray-tracing options, resolution, weather and frame-rate behavior before changing anything. Avoid comparing one setting in a clear afternoon with another in heavy rain.
  4. Change one control. Toggle one native ray-tracing option or one AuraV option, then repeat the same route. This isolates visual and performance changes.
  5. Check motion, not only average FPS. Stutter during turns, streaming, weather changes or explosions can matter more than a short average reading.
  6. Keep the setting that improves the image enough to justify its cost. If a change is difficult to see during normal play, it may not be worth sacrificing smoothness for it.

Do not transfer the console targets of 30 or 60 FPS to a PC build. Those figures come from Rockstar’s 2022 announcement for specific PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X modes and are not measurements of AuraV or a PC configuration.

Native versus AuraV: which route fits you?

Choose native Enhanced ray tracing when

  • You want Rockstar’s supported feature set rather than a third-party visual overhaul.
  • You mainly care about ray-traced reflections, shadows, ambient occlusion or global illumination.
  • You play on a platform where installing a PC mod is not an option.
  • You want to avoid assuming compatibility with other mods or future game updates.

Choose AuraV when

  • Volumetric clouds are a defining requirement, not merely atmospheric fog or light shafts.
  • You play GTA V Enhanced on PC and have an NVIDIA RTX graphics card.
  • You are willing to evaluate a broad visual overhaul that also changes atmosphere, weather, ocean waves and other lighting-related effects.
  • You accept that the creator has not published a universal GPU tier or performance guarantee.

Troubleshooting common misunderstandings

There is no path-tracing option in the graphics menu

That is expected in an unmodified Enhanced installation based on Rockstar’s published descriptions. The native options are ray-traced effects, not a listed path-tracing mode. Path tracing in this guide refers to AuraV on PC.

Lighting Quality changed headlights but not clouds

That behavior matches Rockstar’s description. Lighting Quality affects vehicle-headlight shadows and volumetric lighting for some local light sources. It is not documented as a cloud control.

-fogVolumes produces light in fog but no volumetric cloud layer

The command enables lights’ volumetric effects in foggy weather. Fog volumes and cloud volumes are separate features, so this result does not indicate a broken cloud setting.

F10 does nothing in AuraV

Confirm that you are running the Enhanced PC version, have entered Story Mode and are using the mod according to its current creator documentation. AuraV’s stated access method is F10 after starting Story Mode; the documentation does not promise that the panel will be available in every menu or mode.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The game looks better but motion is inconsistent

Return to the controlled test method: keep the scene, weather and route fixed, then change one option. Test high-resolution reflections, the second RTGI bounce and AuraV’s optional effects separately instead of changing several quality controls at once. No published benchmark identifies a single setting as the universal cause of slowdowns.

What the console performance modes actually mean

Rockstar’s 2022 console announcement provides useful context but not a PC recommendation. Fidelity Mode targeted 30 FPS. Performance Mode targeted 60 FPS. Performance RT on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X combined ray tracing with a 60 FPS target. These were mode targets for those consoles at that time, not measurements for PC hardware, Enhanced ray-tracing combinations or AuraV.

Use those figures only to understand the kind of quality-versus-smoothness choice Rockstar offered on consoles. Do not use them to predict how a particular RTX card will run path tracing or clouds.

What is still unknown before you choose a preset

  • No reviewed source names a minimum NVIDIA RTX model for AuraV.
  • No current comparable test supplies FPS results for individual AuraV controls.
  • No universal PC preset, resolution target or quality-to-performance ratio is established.
  • Patch state, mod support and hardware compatibility can change, so verify the creator’s current documentation and Rockstar’s latest Enhanced notes before a major update.

Those gaps do not prevent a good setup; they mean the correct recommendation is a controlled, system-specific tune rather than a copied “best” number.

Recommended starting decisions

  1. If you want an unmodified game, enable the native ray-traced effects that matter to you and test high-resolution ray-traced reflections and the second RTGI bounce separately.
  2. If you want volumetric clouds, do not spend time searching for a native cloud slider. Use AuraV on Enhanced PC, open its panel with F10 in Story Mode and evaluate its path-traced lighting and cloud features.
  3. Treat Lighting Quality as a headlight, shadow and local-volumetric-light setting, not as a cloud-quality setting.
  4. Use -fogVolumes only for the foggy-weather volumetric-light behavior it is documented to enable.
  5. Keep the profile that delivers the visual effect you can actually see while preserving the motion quality you chose at the start.

The Bottom Line

For native GTA V Enhanced, the best path is careful ray-tracing selection: test ambient occlusion, global illumination, shadows, reflections, high-resolution reflections and the second RTGI bounce according to your own frame-rate target. For genuine path-traced lighting and volumetric clouds, AuraV is the separate PC mod route, with RTX hardware and F10 controls in Story Mode. Neither route has a universal, evidence-backed FPS preset.
