Best Graphics Settings for Smooth Performance in Order of the Sinking Star: What You Can Actually Tune

There is no verified, full-release graphics preset for Order of the Sinking Star yet. The official PC listing publishes minimum and recommended hardware, but it does not enumerate the current release’s graphics controls, defaults, or the frame-rate effect of each option. The safest way to pursue smooth play is therefore to compare your computer with those published tiers, document your resolution and symptoms, and make controlled changes only to options that your installed build actually exposes.

A July 10, 2026 technical update mentions a lower-profile Very Performance setting and faster-frame-rate work, but those notes apply to the demo’s beta branch. They do not prove that the same setting exists in the current full release, and they are not a measured performance recipe.

What is and is not known about the full-release graphics menu

The official Steam listing supplies system specifications, not a benchmark. It does not list a quality preset, texture selector, shadow control, upscaler, frame-rate cap, resolution scale, or default values for the current PC release. Because those controls and their effects are undocumented in the available official material, assigning a “best” combination would require guessing.

The developer’s Steam Deck announcement is evidence about compatibility and handheld interface work, not a PC tuning guide. It supports a portable-play use case, but it does not establish how a particular scene performs on a desktop, laptop, or any individual Deck model. No independent, reproducible setting-by-setting test or named performance statistic is established in the available sources.

Three levels of evidence

  • Published specifications: the minimum and recommended PC requirements can be quoted exactly as the store lists them.
  • Developer compatibility statement: the September 15, 2026 announcement says the game is Steam Deck Verified and has handheld-oriented controls and interface.
  • Unverified tuning details: exact full-release options, defaults, expected frame rates, and per-setting gains are not established. Treat forum presets, screenshots, and demo-only notes as leads rather than confirmed instructions.

Compare your PC with the published requirements

Start with the hardware before changing a slider. The tiers tell you whether your system is in the game’s stated compatibility range; they do not guarantee a frame rate, visual quality level, or consistent behavior in every scene.

Component Minimum (Steam listing) Recommended (Steam listing)
Operating system 64-bit Windows 10 or later 64-bit Windows 10 or later
Processor Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Intel Core i5-9600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600
Memory 8 GB RAM 16 GB RAM
Graphics processor NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, AMD Radeon RX 580, or Intel Arc A380 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 2070 Ti, AMD Radeon RX 5700, or Intel Arc B570
Graphics API DirectX 12 DirectX 12
Available storage 14 GB 14 GB

The GPU names above preserve the wording of the store page, including the listed GeForce GTX 2070 Ti designation. Do not silently substitute another model when documenting your system; if the label appears unusual, check with the publisher rather than treating an unconfirmed correction as fact.

How to identify your own hardware

  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Windows Task Manager, select Performance, and note the CPU model, installed memory, and GPU names. Task Manager shows the hardware Windows currently detects, which is the relevant starting point for a game launched on that installation.
  2. Press Windows+R, enter dxdiag, and choose Save All Information if you need a text record of the Windows version and DirectX details. Keep the file private if it contains identifying system information.
  3. Check the drive that contains the game in Settings > System > Storage. You need at least the listed 14 GB of available space; leaving additional working room can make general Windows maintenance easier, but the listing does not specify an extra performance allowance.
  4. Write down the display resolution and refresh rate you use when the problem occurs. A result at 1920×1080 cannot be compared directly with one at 2560×1440 or 4K.
  5. Describe the symptom in one sentence: consistently low frame rate, brief hitching, long pauses, a crash, image corruption, or an input problem. “It feels slow” is not specific enough to connect a symptom with a setting.

How to interpret your position between tiers

A processor or graphics card that falls between the listed minimum and recommended parts is not a hidden performance promise. Component generations, cooling, laptop power limits, drivers, background programs, and resolution all change the result. Even a system above the recommended line can show a problem caused by software or thermals, while a system near minimum may run acceptably in one scene and struggle in another. Use the table as a compatibility baseline, then measure your own installation.

Also compare each category separately. Meeting the recommended GPU does not compensate for having less than the recommended memory if the game and other applications compete for RAM. Likewise, a processor that meets the target cannot guarantee smooth camera movement if the graphics workload is too high. The listing gives no rule for which component becomes the bottleneck, so identify the part that is actually busy during the symptom instead of assuming the largest-numbered component is responsible.

A safe, controlled tuning workflow

The following procedure is a general PC troubleshooting method, not a claim that any particular option has been tested in this game. It keeps a change traceable so you can reverse it when an image-quality or stability trade-off is unacceptable.

  1. Record a baseline. Before changing anything, note your resolution, refresh rate, whether vertical synchronization is enabled, the observed frame-rate range if you already monitor it, and where the symptom appears. Use the same save, area, camera direction, and approximate play action for every comparison.
  2. Capture the installed build. Record the game version shown by Steam and whether you are on a normal release branch or a beta branch. A setting documented for a demo beta cannot automatically be transferred to the full release.
  3. Inventory only visible controls. Open the game’s actual graphics or display menu and write down the labels and current values. Do not assume a familiar control exists because another game has one. If the menu offers presets, note their names without treating them as independently validated performance levels.
  4. Change one variable. Apply one setting change, restart only if the game requests it, and repeat the same test. Changing resolution, shadows, textures, and effects together prevents you from knowing which change helped or harmed.
  5. Watch both smoothness and image quality. A higher average frame rate can still feel uneven if frame times spike. Look for hitching during camera movement, transitions, or new areas, and inspect text, edges, and distant detail after each change.
  6. Keep a rollback note. Write down the previous value before applying a change. If the game becomes unstable or the picture becomes unacceptable, restore the last known-good value rather than stacking more changes.

Resolution and display variables

Resolution is often the largest workload variable in a 3D application, but the available sources do not measure its effect in Order of the Sinking Star. If your menu exposes a resolution choice, test the display’s native value first, then compare a lower value under the same scene and camera movement. Record exactly what you used; “lower resolution” is not reproducible without the dimensions.

  • HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
  • The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
  • AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
  • Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort

Also record whether the game is running fullscreen, borderless, or windowed if those modes are available. These labels describe presentation behavior, not a guaranteed performance ranking for this title. Avoid promising that one mode, an upscaler, or a frame-rate cap will fix every stutter when the official material provides no such comparison.

If the game offers a separate render scale or upscaling mode, treat it as a new variable rather than changing it at the same time as output resolution. Note whether menus and text remain legible, because a setting that improves a counter on an overlay but makes the game difficult to read may not be a useful trade. The current listing does not identify whether any of these controls exists, so this advice applies only if your installed menu exposes them.

Diagnose the symptom before blaming a setting

Consistently low frame rate

First compare the GPU model and resolution with the requirements table. If the GPU is close to or below the minimum listing, reducing a documented workload control or display resolution may be a reasonable experiment, but no exact target or frame-rate gain is established. If the GPU is comfortably above the recommended listing, check whether the game is using the intended GPU, whether another program is consuming resources, and whether temperatures or power limits are causing throttling. Those are standard PC checks, not game-specific test results.

Brief hitches or uneven motion

Note whether a hitch occurs at a repeatable location or only during new activity. Record frame-time behavior if your overlay provides it, rather than relying only on an average FPS number. Close unnecessary background capture, browser, or synchronization utilities one at a time and retest, keeping a written change log. Because no official full-release setting study exists, do not label a particular effect as the cause without reproducing the difference under controlled conditions.

Crashes, freezes, or a black screen

Return every changed option to its previous value, verify that Windows meets the 64-bit requirement, and confirm that the installation has the required DirectX 12 environment. If the problem remains, preserve the game version, Windows version, GPU driver version, crash time, and a description of what was on screen. This information is more useful to support than an unverified claim that a named quality preset is broken.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Image artifacts or missing detail

Photograph or describe the artifact, then test a single display or quality variable at a time. Check that the game is rendering on the intended GPU and that the display is not applying an unexpected scaling mode. Do not treat a visual glitch as proof that a specific setting is universally defective; the current official sources do not establish such a relationship.

  • Eye comfort: TÜV Rheinland 3‑star certified display lowers blue light while preserving color quality.

Input or interface problems

Separate a graphics symptom from an input symptom. Record whether the issue appears only with a controller, only in menus, or only after changing display mode. The developer specifically describes handheld-oriented controls and interface work for Steam Deck, but that statement does not document a Windows control setting or prove that a desktop input issue is graphics-related.

What the July demo update means

A July 10, 2026 technical update, reproduced by Changelog.gg from Steam News, described a beta update for the demo. It mentioned “Optimizations for faster frame rate, especially on lower-end devices!” and a lower-profile Very Performance graphics setting. Both statements belong to that demo-beta context.

That note does not verify that the full release currently contains a Very Performance option, that its values are unchanged, or that selecting it produces a particular FPS. Do not present it as a tested full-release preset. If your installed full release shows a control with that name, document the exact build and your own before-and-after measurements instead of borrowing a number from the demo note.

Steam Deck context

On September 15, 2026, the developer announced Steam Deck Verified status and described compatibility with Steam Deck, optimized controls, and interfaces tailored for handheld play. The announcement says: “Enjoy the full experience of Order of the Sinking Star anywhere you go, featuring optimized controls, smooth performance, and interfaces tailored for handheld play.” That is promotional wording from the developer’s news page, not an independent laboratory measurement.

Steam Deck Verified status can help someone deciding whether portable play fits their needs. It does not mean that buying a handheld is required to make an existing PC run smoothly, nor does it establish equal performance across Deck models, operating-system revisions, display modes, or game scenes. The available material provides no model-by-model performance comparison.

A Steam Deck OLED is therefore an optional hardware choice for readers who value portability, not a graphics upgrade recommendation for a desktop owner. No price, discount, affiliate arrangement, or retailer relationship is established here, so any purchase decision should be based on the reader’s own budget and use case rather than an implied performance guarantee.

How to make a useful support report

If you still need help, provide the information that lets another person reproduce the situation: CPU model, GPU model, RAM amount, Windows edition and version, DirectX information, game build and branch, display resolution and refresh rate, visible graphics-menu values, and the exact symptom. Add where it happens, how often it happens, and whether reverting the last change restored normal behavior.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Separate observation from interpretation. “The frame rate dropped when entering a new area at 2560×1440 on build X” is an observation. “The shadow setting causes the drop” is a conclusion that requires a one-variable comparison. This distinction matters especially here because the official sources do not provide a full-release settings matrix.

Include the time of day only when it helps identify a repeatable session pattern, and avoid posting serial numbers, account names, or the complete dxdiag file publicly if it contains identifying information. A concise report with the relevant hardware, build, resolution, and reproduction steps is more useful than a long list of unrelated tweaks.

What a future authoritative settings guide would need to establish

A reliable recipe would identify the full-release build, hardware, operating system, driver version, resolution, display mode, scene, measurement method, and starting values. It would then report both performance and image-quality changes for each option, with repeatable tests rather than a single anecdotal result. Until those details are available, the responsible answer is a measurement workflow and a hardware baseline—not an invented preset or frame-rate guarantee.

Is there a confirmed best graphics preset for the full release?

No. The official listing does not document the current full-release graphics controls, defaults, or measured performance effects, so a fixed preset or FPS promise would be speculative.

Does the game have a Very Performance mode?

A July 10, 2026 technical update mentions a Very Performance setting for a demo beta. That note does not confirm the setting is present or unchanged in the current full release.

Is Order of the Sinking Star Steam Deck Verified?

The developer announced Steam Deck Verified status on September 15, 2026 and described handheld-oriented controls and interfaces. This supports portable-play compatibility, not a performance comparison across Deck models or PC scenes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How should I test a setting change?

Record your build, resolution, display mode, scene, and symptom; change one visible control; repeat the same action; compare smoothness and image quality; and keep a note of the previous value so you can roll back.

Can the requirements predict my FPS?

No. Minimum and recommended parts are compatibility specifications, not benchmark results. Resolution, cooling, drivers, laptop power limits, background software, and the particular scene can all change performance.

Should I buy a Steam Deck OLED to improve PC performance?

No purchase is required for an existing PC, and no source establishes a Deck model-by-model performance advantage. Consider a Steam Deck OLED only if portable play suits your needs.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: the official requirements are the only full-release performance baseline currently documented. Compare your CPU, GPU, RAM, Windows version, DirectX 12 environment, and 14 GB storage against the table; record resolution and symptoms; and change only controls that your installed build actually shows. Keep the July demo-beta Very Performance note separate from the full release, and treat Steam Deck Verified as a portability claim rather than a PC benchmark.
