For PC, start at your monitor’s native resolution with VSync enabled and a 60 FPS target. For Steam Deck, the most consistent tested setup is an 80 Hz refresh rate with a 40 FPS limit, Linear scaling, Half-Rate Shading off, and no TDP or GPU-clock restriction. The Deck test commonly reached 45–50 FPS, but zoomed-out scenes fell to about 40 FPS or slightly below, so a locked 60 FPS should not be promised.
This guide reflects the Windows and Steam Deck behavior documented in 2026. Patches, SteamOS, Proton, graphics drivers and display firmware can change results, so treat these profiles as starting points and retest after major updates.

Quick-start settings
Use the profile that matches your hardware and display before changing anything else. Belmont’s Curse exposes very few image-quality controls, so resolution, frame pacing and display refresh are more important than hunting for shadow or texture options that are not present.

What the official target and PC requirements mean
60 FPS is the stated PC target
KONAMI’s product information classifies Belmont’s Curse as a “2D Action-Exploration” game and lists a frame rate of 60 FPS on PC, while Nintendo Switch is listed at 30 FPS. That is a platform target, not a guarantee for every Windows configuration. Frame pacing, monitor refresh rate, drivers and the game’s current build still affect whether 60 feels consistent.

The Steam listing is demanding for a 2D game
The 2026 Steam requirements specify Windows 11, 16 GB of RAM, a GeForce GTX 1650 minimum GPU and a GeForce RTX 3060 recommended GPU. The same 16 GB memory figure is listed for both minimum and recommended configurations.
| Requirement | Minimum | Recommended | Qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 11 | Windows 11 | As listed on Steam in 2026 |
| System memory | 16 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM | The listing uses the same capacity for both tiers |
| Graphics processor | GeForce GTX 1650 | GeForce RTX 3060 | These are the published GPU classes, not a guarantee of identical performance from every model |
| Processor and storage | Not stated in the cited requirements | Not stated in the cited requirements | Do not infer an unlisted CPU or disk requirement from the GPU tiers |
If your system is close to the GTX 1650 minimum, begin with native resolution and watch frame-time consistency rather than assuming that lowering every option is possible. There are no documented texture, shadow or effects sliders to trade for speed.
Best PC graphics settings
Recommended starting profile
| Setting | Starting value | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution | Your monitor’s native resolution | Preserves the sharpest image. Reduce it only if frame times are unstable. |
| VSync | Enabled | It is the safe baseline for avoiding tearing and unpredictable frame pacing. |
| Frame rate | 60 FPS target | Matches the publisher’s PC target and avoids the problems reported with the 120 FPS in-game cap. |
| Quality, texture, shadow and effect controls | Leave at their available defaults | The game does not expose a full quality menu; Steam Deck HQ found no such controls beyond resolution. |
VSync is a starting point, not a universal rule. Test it off only when you have a specific reason, such as a display setup that already handles synchronization and a confirmed frame-pacing problem with VSync enabled. If disabling it introduces tearing or uneven delivery, restore it before changing resolution.
Apply the profile without over-tuning
- Set Windows to the monitor’s normal resolution and a refresh rate between 60 and 120 Hz before launching the game.
- Start Belmont’s Curse and open its available display or graphics settings. Choose the native resolution and a 60 FPS target if a frame-rate selector is shown.
- Enable VSync.
- Play a representative section that includes both normal and zoomed-out views. Watch for visible tearing, uneven motion or repeated stutter rather than judging from a single static room.
- If frame times remain unstable, lower resolution one step and test the same section again. Because there are no documented shadow, texture or effects controls, resolution is the principal in-game performance adjustment.
A lower resolution is a troubleshooting measure, not proof that the GPU is the only bottleneck. If the game still feels uneven after the change, return to the native mode and work through the refresh-rate and launch checks below.

High-refresh monitor problems on PC
PC Gamer reported a launch quirk in which the game would not display when the monitor refresh rate was set higher than 120 Hz. The same report described cutscene drops after selecting the in-game 120 FPS cap. These are display and frame-pacing issues, not evidence that the game needs a particular monitor.
Black screen at launch
- Exit the game completely.
- In Windows display settings, temporarily set the monitor to 60, 100 or 120 Hz. Use a mode at or below 120 Hz for the first test.
- Launch the game again.
- Once it displays correctly, test higher refresh rates one at a time. If the black screen returns, use the highest mode that launches reliably.
- Keep the game’s frame-rate target at 60 rather than selecting the in-game 120 FPS cap while troubleshooting.
This workaround changes the display mode; it does not add a new graphics option or guarantee that every high-refresh panel will behave identically.
Cutscene drops after choosing 120 FPS
Return the in-game cap to 60 FPS and retest the same cutscene. A high-refresh monitor can still be used for desktop or other games, but Belmont’s Curse should be evaluated with the game’s 60 FPS target and a launch-safe refresh mode first.

Set the Deck controls
| SteamOS control | Value used in the cited test | Why start here |
|---|---|---|
| Refresh rate | 80 Hz | Pairs evenly with a 40 FPS cap for consistent frame delivery. |
| Frame-rate limit | 40 FPS | Prioritizes stable pacing over chasing a fluctuating 60. |
| TDP limit | Unrestricted | Steam Deck HQ’s test used no TDP limit. |
| Manual GPU clock | Disabled or unchanged | The cited test used the default state. |
| Scaling filter | Linear | This was the filter in the tested profile. |
| Half-Rate Shading | Off | Avoids the image-quality compromise when it is not needed. |
| In-game quality options | No changes beyond resolution | Steam Deck HQ found no quality controls for shadows, textures or effects. |
- Launch the game and open the SteamOS Quick Access menu.
- On the Performance tab, set the refresh rate to 80 Hz.
- Set the frame-rate limit to 40 FPS.
- Leave TDP unrestricted and manual GPU clock controls disabled.
- Choose Linear for the scaling filter and make sure Half-Rate Shading is off.
- Leave the game’s own settings at their defaults except for resolution when you are diagnosing a display problem.
Steam Deck HQ’s test commonly measured about 45–50 FPS, while zoomed-out sections reached approximately 40 FPS or slightly below. The tester judged a 40 FPS lock playable throughout. Those measurements are test-specific, not a universal result for every Deck LCD or OLED model, SteamOS release, Proton build or game patch.

Why 40 FPS at 80 Hz is preferable to chasing 60
At 80 Hz, a 40 FPS cap delivers one game frame every two display refreshes, producing a regular 25-millisecond frame interval. A 60 FPS target demands a new frame about every 16.7 milliseconds and leaves less headroom for the zoomed-out scenes that the test found most difficult. A steady 40 therefore usually looks more consistent than a rate that moves between the 40s, 50s and occasional dips while trying to reach 60.
Do not interpret the 40 FPS profile as proof that the Deck is rendering a locked 40 in every scene. The observed drops to around 40 or slightly below are why this is called a stability-first profile rather than a hard performance guarantee.
Fixing a cropped or stretched Steam Deck interface
Why the menu can be cut off
The Deck’s built-in panel is 1280×800 with a 16:10 aspect ratio. Community reports summarized by Steam Deck HQ describe the game selecting a 16:9 mode, which can crop or stretch interface elements on that 16:10 display.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCommunity workaround: force 1280×720
- Open the Steam Library and select Belmont’s Curse.
- Open the game’s per-game Properties.
- Use the available resolution or display override and set 1280×720. The exact label can vary with the SteamOS version.
- Launch the game and check the menus before changing any performance limits.
- If the interface is readable but black bars appear, that is the expected trade-off of forcing a 16:9 image on a 16:10 panel.
This is a community-reported workaround, not an official fix. It addresses composition and readability; it is not a measured performance cure. If the game already fits correctly, keep the native mode instead of adding letterboxing.

PC versus Steam Deck
The choice is less about a long list of image-quality toggles—neither platform exposes many—and more about sustained frame rate, display compatibility and portability.
| Comparison point | Windows PC | Steam Deck |
|---|---|---|
| Sustained frame-rate goal | 60 FPS, subject to hardware and frame pacing | 40 FPS lock at 80 Hz is the tested stability-first choice; 60 FPS is not guaranteed |
| Resolution behavior | Native monitor resolution is the recommended starting point | Native panel mode is preferable; 1280×720 can be forced to address cropping |
| Aspect ratio | Depends on the connected monitor | The 1280×800 16:10 panel can show a 16:9 crop or stretch |
| Launch reliability | Displays above 120 Hz were associated with a black-screen launch problem in PC Gamer’s report | No equivalent high-refresh launch issue was established in the cited test |
| Graphics controls | Resolution and the available sync/frame-rate options; no documented full quality menu | No quality controls beyond resolution were found by Steam Deck HQ |
| Power and thermals | Not established by the cited material | Steam Deck HQ measured 10–14 W, 60–65 °C and approximately 3.5–4 hours of battery life in its test |
The Deck power, temperature and battery figures are observations from one test configuration. They can change with brightness, audio, operating-system version, background processes, battery health and future patches, so do not treat them as specifications for every unit.
Choosing between 40 FPS and 60 FPS
Choose 60 FPS when
- You are on a Windows PC near or above the published RTX 3060 recommended GPU class.
- The game launches reliably at your monitor’s refresh rate.
- VSync and the 60 FPS target deliver even frame times in both normal and zoomed-out areas.
Choose 40 FPS when
- You are playing on Steam Deck and want predictable pacing rather than a fluctuating higher number.
- Your display can run at 80 Hz.
- Zoomed-out scenes cause the Deck to fall away from a 60 FPS target.
Do not use 120 FPS as the default fix
The publisher’s stated PC target is 60 FPS, and PC Gamer observed cutscene drops after selecting the in-game 120 FPS cap. A 120 Hz display can be useful for compatibility testing, but selecting a 120 FPS game cap is not the recommended baseline.

Troubleshooting by symptom
The PC image tears
Enable VSync, confirm the game is targeting 60 FPS, and test again at a 60–120 Hz display mode. Do not change several variables at once; otherwise you cannot tell whether the refresh rate, cap or sync setting solved the problem.
Best Value
The PC game opens to a black screen
Lower the Windows monitor refresh rate to 60–120 Hz, relaunch, and only then test higher modes. If the problem returns above 120 Hz, keep the lower launch-safe mode for this game.
Cutscenes stutter after a settings change
Undo the 120 FPS cap and return to 60 FPS. Keep VSync enabled while testing so frame pacing is easier to evaluate.
The Deck interface is cropped
Try the community 1280×720 override in the game’s Steam Properties. Expect black bars and remember that this changes the aspect-ratio presentation, not the underlying quality settings.
The Deck cannot hold 40 FPS everywhere
Keep the 40 FPS limit and 80 Hz refresh profile, then test a zoomed-out area. The cited test also saw those areas reach about 40 FPS or slightly below, even after resolution changes. There is no documented shadow, texture or effects setting to disable for a guaranteed recovery, so avoid promising a locked 60 or claiming that one lower resolution solves every dip.
Retest after updates
Performance can change when the game, SteamOS, Proton, GPU driver or display firmware changes. After a major update, use this short checklist:
- Confirm the PC display is in a 60–120 Hz mode before launch.
- Confirm VSync and the 60 FPS target on Windows.
- Confirm 80 Hz and 40 FPS on Deck.
- Check one normal area, one zoomed-out area and a cutscene.
- Look for a newly introduced crop, stretch, black screen or tearing before changing resolution.
- Record the game version, SteamOS or Windows version and display mode when reporting a problem, because the published tests do not cover every GPU, Deck model, Proton build or patch.
The official demo information says a demo save transfers to the full version and that the full version should be updated before transfer, but it does not provide a detailed performance-patch history. Updating first is therefore sensible, while the settings above remain the practical starting points.
