Apple’s technical specifications list up to 2160p at 60 frames per second for the listed SDR video formats and Dolby Vision up to 2160p at 60 frames per second. The device also supports HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG. Dolby Atmos support covers compatible content and equipment; it does not convert every soundtrack into Atmos.

If your home is built around Apple devices

Check the display first
A 4K player cannot create a 4K image on a television that does not support 4K. Apple explicitly requires a 4K HDR television for 4K HDR streaming. Google likewise notes that output resolution is constrained by both the display and streamer, as well as by the content.
Check each HDR format
“HDR support” is not one universal format. Apple lists Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG; Google lists Dolby Vision for Google TV Streamer. A service may offer a title in one format but not another, and your television may accept only some of them. Match the player’s published formats with the television and the subscriptions you actually use.
Check the audio path
Both Google TV Streamer and Apple TV 4K list Dolby Atmos. To hear Atmos, the title, app, television or receiver and speaker system must all support the required signal path. A supported format does not mean every program is mixed in that format.

Check the cable and receiver
Google recommends a separately sold Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 certified cable for optimal Google TV Streamer performance.
