There is no single best gaming laptop for every Australian buyer: the right pick depends on its exact GPU configuration, local price, screen and how often you need to carry it. Current options span the Lenovo Legion 5i Gen 11 for mainstream gaming, ASUS’s ROG Strix G16 for a higher-powered 16-inch system, the Zephyrus G16 for gaming and creator use, and premium models such as the Razer Blade 16. Treat these as a shortlist, not a tested ranking, and verify the Australian SKU and stock before buying.
Which gaming laptop should you shortlist?
The models below serve different priorities. Their inclusion in a guide or product range does not mean every configuration is in stock or equally good value.

| ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (2026) GU606 | Buyers balancing premium gaming with creator or work use | ASUS describes an Intel Core Ultra 9 386H, options up to an RTX 5090 Laptop GPU, and a 2.5K OLED 240Hz display. These are range specifications; confirm the precise unit. ASUS ROG Australia |
| Razer Blade 16 | Premium performance with portability as a consideration | TechRadar’s guide lists AU$4,899.95 as the starting price for the configuration it discusses. Check current Australian pricing and configuration before comparing it with other models. TechRadar |
For a separate performance-versus-unplugged-use perspective, PC Gamer’s Australia-focused roundup describes the Legion Pro as strong for raw performance but unsuitable for long stretches away from power, and its author prefers the Blade 16 for battery gaming. That is the outlet’s review judgment, not a guarantee of battery runtime across configurations. PC Gamer’s roundup

How to compare the configurations that matter
GPU model and power limit
Start with the laptop GPU, not just the product family name. The Strix G16’s listed upper configuration pairs an RTX 5080 Laptop GPU with a 175W maximum total graphics power (TGP). The Zephyrus G16 range includes an option up to an RTX 5090 Laptop GPU, but the available specifications do not establish an equivalent power limit. Those names alone do not make the systems directly comparable. Check the exact SKU’s GPU and stated power limit, then weigh them against the games and resolution you plan to use.
#1 Best Overall
- Desktop-Level Performance, Anywhere: Get legendary gaming performance with the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor, delivering ultra-smooth gameplay and future-ready AI (Up to 13 NPU TOPS). Offload tasks like background removal and audio optimization to the NPU for seamless streaming and gaming, while Intel Application Optimization enhances performance on classic titles.
- Game-Changing Realism: Powered by NVIDIA Blackwell architecture, GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU unlocks the game changing realism of full ray tracing. Equipped with a massive level of 992 AI TOPS horsepower, the RTX 50 Series enables new experiences and next-level graphics fidelity. Experience cinematic quality visuals at unprecedented speed with fourth-gen RT Cores and breakthrough neural rendering technologies accelerated with fifth-gen Tensor Cores.
- Supreme Speed. Superior Visuals. Powered by AI: DLSS is a revolutionary suite of neural rendering technologies that uses AI to boost FPS, reduce latency, and improve image quality. DLSS 4 brings a new Multi Frame Generation and enhanced Ray Reconstruction and Super Resolution, powered by GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs and fifth-generation Tensor Cores.
- The Ultimate in Ray Tracing and AI: NVIDIA RTX is the most advanced platform for full ray tracing and neural rendering technologies that are revolutionizing the ways we play and create. Over 700 games and applications use RTX to deliver realistic graphics and incredibly fast performance with cutting-edge AI features like DLSS Multi Frame Generation.
- Immersive Depth and Detail: At 18 inches with a 16:10 aspect ratio, the pristine WQXGA screen offering vibrant colors with up to 100% DCI-P3 operates at a fast 240Hz refresh and 3ms overdrive response time. Alongside the suite of features from NVIDIA G-SYNC and NVIDIA Advanced Optimus, you're guaranteed that whatever's on-screen is a distinct viewing delight.
Screen resolution, panel type and refresh rate
The Strix G16 lists a 16-inch 2.5K 300Hz display, while the Zephyrus G16 lists a 2.5K OLED 240Hz panel. Refresh rate is only one part of the decision: consider resolution and panel technology alongside your games, other work and budget. A 300Hz specification does not by itself establish that a given configuration will run a game at that frame rate.
Portability and battery use
Gaming performance away from a wall outlet can differ from plugged-in use. If you travel or work unplugged, look for review evidence about battery gaming and consider how much performance you are willing to trade for mobility. PC Gamer’s comparison is a source-specific judgment about the Legion Pro and Blade 16; it should not be generalized to every model or treated as a measured battery-life figure.

Memory, storage, warranty and local SKU
Before comparing prices, match the configuration on RAM, SSD capacity, screen and warranty as well as GPU. Australian retailer listings can use similar model names for materially different hardware. Check that the product is the generation and configuration you intend to buy, and that the seller has it available locally.
What Australian prices tell you—and what they do not
ASUS ROG Australia’s product page listed the Strix G16 (2026) from AU$3,999 when accessed in 2026. That is a starting price on one manufacturer page, not a market average or the price of every configuration. Tech Geek reported retailer examples of AU$2,599 for one ROG Strix G16 configuration and AU$3,499–AU$3,699 for listed Legion Pro 7i configurations in 2026; those are time-sensitive examples, not a representative survey of Australian prices. TechRadar reported that Lenovo Australia discounts on the Legion 5i varied by configuration, with discounts around 20% to 30% common at the time it accessed its guide. That is an outlet’s snapshot, not a promised saving. Compare the live checkout price for the exact SKU rather than relying on a headline discount or a past listing.

- Choose your priority: value, maximum gaming performance, a higher-end screen, or a system that also suits creator work.
- Find the Australian listing for the precise model generation and SKU. Confirm the GPU, its power limit where published, processor, RAM, SSD and display.
- Compare like with like across sellers, including local warranty and stock status. Do not assume a roundup entry proves current availability.
- Match the screen resolution and refresh rate to the games you play, and decide whether OLED or a very high refresh rate matters for your other uses.
- If you need to play unplugged, consult review judgments for the specific configuration and accept that those observations are not universal battery guarantees.
- Recheck the seller’s price and availability immediately before purchase; Australian pricing and discounts can change.
How to make the final choice
For a value-oriented starting point, investigate the Legion 5i Gen 11, but note that TechRadar’s review of the generation was still in progress at the time of its guide. For a powerful 16-inch configuration, compare the Strix G16’s exact SKU and price. Consider the Zephyrus G16 if its OLED screen and stated gaming-and-creator positioning fit your needs, keeping in mind that its suitability claims come from ASUS. If portability while gaming is central, include the Blade 16 in the comparison and read the specific review evidence rather than assuming that premium pricing guarantees longer battery life.
