Start with Deus Ex if what you loved was choosing your own route through missions with conversation, stealth, hacking and combat. Choose Prey for a modern immersive sim, Swansong for licensed vampire politics and investigation, Vampyr for the moral pressure of feeding, Fallout: New Vegas for factional role-playing, Dishonored for stealth and supernatural powers, or Bloodlines 2 for a current licensed sequel set in Seattle.
No single game reproduces the original Bloodlines‘ exact mix of clan identity, first-person systems, dialogue reactivity, urban melancholy and horror. The best choice depends on which part of that combination you want to preserve.

Why Bloodlines is difficult to replace
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines is often described as a first-person RPG, but that label does not explain its appeal by itself. Its dense urban zones combine authored storylines with the freedom to decide how a problem is approached. A clan’s powers can change both combat and social encounters, while feeding, exploration and conversation reinforce the feeling that you are inhabiting a particular kind of vampire rather than merely selecting a class.

- Open-ended mission routes and immersive-sim problem solving.
- Dialogue and role-play that react to character choices.
- Gothic, unsettling or horror-focused atmosphere.
- A supernatural identity, ideally one with meaningful powers.
- The option to emphasize stealth instead of direct combat.
- A city and presentation that feel modern enough to revisit today.
The recommendations below separate those qualities instead of pretending that every game is a direct replacement.
Deus Ex: the closest structural match
Pick the original Deus Ex when your favorite part of Bloodlines was deciding how to solve a mission. It is the strongest match for players who remember entering a location, reading the environment and finding several viable routes rather than following one prescribed sequence.
What feels familiar
- Conversation can be as important as weapons.
- Stealth, hacking and combat are complementary approaches rather than separate game modes.
- Levels reward looking for alternate entrances, information and unconventional solutions.
- Your build and decisions shape the way later situations unfold.
This is the recommendation to give someone who calls Bloodlines an “immersive sim” first and a vampire game second. The underlying fantasy is agency: the world presents a problem and the player decides which tools, skills and social choices to use.

Deus Ex trades gothic horror and clan identity for science fiction. You will not get the same predatory vampire fantasy, urban melancholy or supernatural social hierarchy. Treat it as the closest mechanical and structural follow-up, not as a setting substitute.
Prey (2017): the best modern immersive-sim substitute
Prey is the best choice when you want the flexible problem solving of Bloodlines in a more modern immersive-sim framework. Its spaces are carefully authored, but observation and build choices can open different solutions.
Why it fits
- Environmental clues help you discover routes instead of simply marking every objective.
- Flexible powers let you approach obstacles in more than one way.
- Exploration and experimentation are central to progress.
- Science-fiction horror supplies tension even when a direct fight is possible.
The comparison is strongest at the level of level design and player improvisation. If you enjoyed using a discipline, a skill or a discovered trick to bypass an expected path, Prey delivers that same “there must be another way” feeling.

The trade-off
Its story is not built around vampire clans, feeding or social politics. The setting and threats are science-fiction horror, so choose it for systems and atmosphere rather than for continuity with the World of Darkness.

Swansong: the licensed narrative follow-up
Choose Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong when the setting, investigation and political consequences matter more than first-person combat. It is a narrative RPG built around three main characters, social decisions and the fate of the Boston Camarilla.
Why setting-focused players should choose it
- It uses the licensed Vampire: The Masquerade setting rather than a new supernatural universe.
- Investigation and dialogue are the primary ways you make progress.
- Choices can lead to multiple endings.
- Political decisions have consequences for the characters and the Camarilla.
Steam’s store description calls it “a narrative RPG in which your every choice determines the fate of the three main characters and of the Boston Camarilla.” That sentence accurately sets the expectation: this is a choice-and-investigation game first.
Why it is not Bloodlines 2.0
Swansong is third-person and investigation-first. It does not reproduce Bloodlines‘ free-roaming city structure, first-person action or immersive-sim approach to physical spaces. Select it for lore, dialogue and vampire politics, not for the exact moment-to-moment format of Troika’s game.
Vampyr: the strongest vampire-morality match
Vampyr is the clearest choice when the central fantasy is being a vampire who must decide whom to feed on and accept the consequences. Feeding is not just a resource transaction; it creates moral pressure because the people you prey upon are part of the surrounding community and your decisions affect outcomes.
What it offers Bloodlines fans
- A playable vampire identity rather than a generic supernatural skill set.
- A direct connection between predation and the lives of other characters.
- A story shaped by the tension between personal power and the cost of using it.
- A darker atmosphere built around the consequences of living as a predator.
Choose this game if you remember the act of feeding as one of Bloodlines‘ defining ideas and want that dilemma to sit at the center of the campaign.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.

What to check before buying
Platform availability can change by storefront and region, so verify the current listing for the system you use. The recommendation is about its vampire-morality focus; it is not a claim that it duplicates Bloodlines‘ clan structure or urban mission design.
Fallout: New Vegas: factional role-playing without vampires
Fallout: New Vegas belongs on this list for players who valued faction politics, dialogue checks and the sense that a self-defined character could alter the campaign. It is a role-playing fit rather than a horror or vampire recommendation.
Where the role-play overlaps
- Different skills and dialogue choices can open or close solutions.
- Factions offer competing interests instead of a single unquestionable side.
- Quests react to alliances and earlier decisions.
- The player character’s identity is shaped by choices rather than a fixed personality.
If the most satisfying Bloodlines moments involved navigating competing groups, using a social build to avoid fights or watching a choice change a later quest, New Vegas supplies a similarly reactive role-playing loop.

Know the limits of the comparison
There are no vampires, clans or gothic urban mood here. Its value is in factional reactivity and player-defined role-play, so do not pick it expecting supernatural horror.
Dishonored: stealth routes and supernatural powers
Choose Dishonored when you used Bloodlines‘ disciplines and stealth to create your own solutions. Its missions are dense, authored spaces where supernatural abilities, movement and awareness determine how much of the level you see.
Why stealth players should try it
- Supernatural powers can change traversal and access.
- Stealth routes reward patience, observation and creative movement.
- Levels support different approaches instead of requiring one combat path.
- The atmosphere is dark and oppressive, even though its world is not the World of Darkness.
It is a particularly good follow-up for players who remember bypassing guards, reaching restricted rooms or manipulating a situation without starting a firefight.

Where it diverges
Dishonored is more deliberately staged and less dialogue-driven. Its strengths are stealth and supernatural action, not branching social role-play or vampire politics.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBloodlines 2: the current licensed continuity pick
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is the obvious choice when your first priority is remaining inside the licensed setting. Paradox describes it as an action RPG in which players navigate the vampire court of Seattle and use clan-based play styles.
What continuity gives you
- A modern city shaped by vampire court politics.
- Clan-based approaches that preserve the idea of supernatural identity.
- Direct continuity with the Vampire: The Masquerade universe.
- A current release designed for players who want a newer presentation.
Set expectations correctly
This is a newer action RPG, not a restoration of the 2004 game’s systems. Do not assume that first-person mission structure, dialogue reactivity or immersive-sim freedom will work exactly as they did in Bloodlines. Choose it because the setting and clan fantasy are your priority, while accepting that the design emphasis is different.
Premium Edition contents
The publisher describes a limited physical Premium Edition containing the base game, an expansion pass, five character cards, a journal and a SteelBook case. Edition contents, stock, regions and supported platforms can change, so verify the current retailer or publisher listing before purchasing; the package is not a universal digital entitlement.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Redemption: an older licensed companion
Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption is worth considering when lore continuity matters more than modern controls or contemporary presentation. It is another licensed vampire campaign and sits alongside Swansong and Bloodlines 2 in the official World of Darkness video-game catalog.
Who should play it
- Players interested in the history of licensed Vampire: The Masquerade games.
- Readers who want another full campaign in the setting.
- Fans willing to accept a substantially older structure and interface.
Position Redemption as a historical companion, not as the closest mechanical substitute for Bloodlines. Its value is the setting and campaign lineage rather than modern first-person immersion.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Cyberpunk 2077: a modern city-RPG analogue
Cyberpunk 2077 is a good fit when what you miss is a contemporary city, a strong personal identity and quests that combine builds, relationships and faction conflict. It can satisfy the desire for a large urban RPG in which your character’s abilities and alliances matter.
Where it overlaps
- A city functions as more than a backdrop for quests.
- Build variety changes how encounters can be handled.
- Relationships and faction conflicts give personal stakes to the campaign.
- The protagonist’s identity is expressed through choices and abilities.
Why it is a different experience
It is more combat-forward and less intimate than Bloodlines. There is no vampire society or gothic predation fantasy, so choose it for city-scale role-playing and character-driven quests rather than horror continuity.
Choose by the part of Bloodlines you miss most
If freedom of approach mattered most
Begin with Deus Ex. It is the clearest structural match for alternate routes, hacking, stealth, combat and conversation. Move to Prey if you want a newer immersive sim with more environmental experimentation.

If you want to remain in the vampire setting
Pick Bloodlines 2 for current Seattle continuity, Swansong for investigation and political decisions, or Redemption for an older licensed campaign. These three serve different eras and formats, so decide whether you want action, narrative investigation or historical curiosity.
If the moral cost of feeding was the key fantasy
Choose Vampyr. It puts the relationship between predation and consequence closer to the center than the other recommendations.
If stealth and supernatural abilities were your favorite tools
Choose Dishonored for focused stealth spaces and powers. Choose Prey instead when you want those powers to interact more extensively with environmental problem solving.
If faction politics and dialogue checks were the draw
Choose Fallout: New Vegas. It does not share the setting, but it offers the strongest fit for alliances, reactive quests and a character shaped by social choices.
If you want a contemporary city and character build
Choose Cyberpunk 2077 for a larger, more combat-oriented urban RPG with relationship and faction systems.
A practical playing order
- Start with Deus Ex if you want the closest overall structure.
- Play Prey if you want that structure in a modern immersive sim.
- Move to Swansong or Vampyr according to whether dialogue and politics or feeding morality matters more.
- Try Dishonored for a concentrated stealth-and-powers experience.
- Choose Fallout: New Vegas or Cyberpunk 2077 for role-playing and city-world alternatives without vampires.
- Finish with Bloodlines 2 or Redemption when licensed continuity is more important than matching the original’s mechanics.
Final advice
There is no single “modern Bloodlines” that combines clan identity, first-person immersive-sim freedom, reactive dialogue, feeding, horror and urban melancholy in exactly the same proportions. Deus Ex is the safest first recommendation because it preserves the decision-making structure. Prey is the best modern systems substitute, Swansong the best licensed narrative choice, and Vampyr the best match for vampire morality. Use Bloodlines 2 for continuity, and choose Fallout: New Vegas, Dishonored or Cyberpunk 2077 when a specific gameplay priority matters more than the setting.
