Square Enix’s official page for the first Dragon Quest Builders explains the series context as gathering materials, crafting items, building structures and restoring the shattered realm of Alefgard through a story. Because that page is for the first game, it should be read as series background rather than proof that every feature is identical in the sequel. The sequel-specific block-based RPG description comes from GameSpot’s result.

- Gather. Collect resources rather than treating the world as scenery; the materials feed both survival and construction.

Both series can appeal to players who want a colorful fantasy adventure rather than a realistic simulation. However, the supplied game descriptions establish building, crafting and battles for Dragon Quest Builders 2, not a one-to-one match for Kingdom Hearts’ combat timing, party behavior or crossover presentation. If you want action combat and a selectable fantasy party
Trials of Mana is the focused RPG alternative
Trials of Mana is a 3D remake of a classic 1995 RPG. Square Enix describes a modernized package with voice acting, a remastered soundtrack, a new post-ending episode, a revised ability and class system and more active battles. The game’s defining choice is the main character and companions you select: those choices change the interwoven story.
That makes it the strongest option here for readers whose “Kingdom Hearts-like” request really means an active fantasy battle system, a group of heroes and a story that changes according to party selection. An Xbox Wire feature dated June 10, 2026 reported that Minecraft Dungeons II moves away from the original game’s discrete missions toward a connected world. The article also described dungeons within that world, expanded gear customization, jumping and local, online or mixed co-op. These details came from the feature author’s account of a demo; they are reported observations, not independent hands-on testing for this article.

The same Xbox Wire feature said the game was scheduled for September 29, 2026, on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, cloud, Steam, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, and said it would be included with Game Pass. Because September 29 has passed, do not treat that schedule as proof that the game launched unchanged. Check the current official Minecraft Dungeons II page and your regional store for the actual release state, supported platforms and subscription terms.

Kingdom Hearts combat versus Minecraft-style progression
“Similar to Kingdom Hearts” can mean several different things.
