Start with Bayonetta if you want the closest match to Devil May Cry’s weapon juggling, dodge timing, supernatural enemies and outrageous finishers. Choose NINJA GAIDEN 2 Black for a faster, harsher technical test; NieR:Automata for a much larger story and exploration layer; Final Fantasy XVI for dark-fantasy spectacle; Hi-Fi Rush for attacks driven by music; or SIFU for parry-focused mastery. God of War Ragnarök and Stellar Blade round out the list with mythic weapons and cinematic combo systems.
What makes a game feel like Devil May Cry?
Devil May Cry is not simply a series about defeating demons with a sword. Its identity comes from expressive combat: the player is rewarded for switching attacks, staying airborne, taunting danger, reacting to enemy behavior and making every encounter look deliberate. Capcom describes the series as featuring “appealing characters brimming with individuality and stylish action where players seek to dispatch enemies in sleek and showy ways.” That emphasis on presentation is why a technically competent action game can still feel unlike Devil May Cry.

- Execution difficulty: how much the game asks you to read opponents, cancel moves, parry or maintain precise timing.
- Dark or supernatural tone: demons, angels, curses, body horror, mythology or otherworldly threats.
- Story and exploration load: whether the experience is an arcade-like combat campaign or a broad action RPG.
- Boss spectacle: the scale, choreography and mechanical variety of major encounters.
- Rhythm and timing: whether attacks are merely well-timed or explicitly tied to a beat.
- Platform and edition availability: which versions exist and what content is included.
Capcom reported 16 million cumulative Devil May Cry units in 2018, evidence of how durable this style of action has become. The games here do not all imitate its gothic setting or camera work; each preserves a different part of the appeal.

Bayonetta: the closest combat match
Why it fits
PlatinumGames built Bayonetta around a deliberately excessive version of stylish action. Its Bullet Arts system lets the protagonist attack with melee weapons and firearms mounted on all four limbs, so a single string can combine punches, kicks and gunfire. The result feels familiar to Devil May Cry players while still having its own animation language and control rhythm.
Signature systems
- Wicked Weaves turn the end of a combo into a giant magical strike.
- Torture Attacks convert openings into elaborate finishers rather than ordinary damage animations.
- Witch Time rewards a precisely timed dodge by slowing the surrounding action, creating a brief window for retaliation.
- Animal transformations change movement and traversal, adding another layer to combat and stage navigation.
Angels and demons provide the supernatural opposition, while the set pieces constantly escalate in scale. If your favorite part of Devil May Cry is improvising a stylish response to an enemy rather than simply surviving, this is the safest first recommendation.
Edition and platform notes
The Nintendo Switch edition is available physically and digitally. The listed release dates are February 16, 2018, for Switch; April 11, 2017, for PC; and February 18, 2020, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Availability can vary by region and storefront, so check the edition attached to your platform before buying.
NINJA GAIDEN 2 Black: the hardest, fastest option
What makes it different
NINJA GAIDEN 2 Black emphasizes execution over theatrical posing. Sword, staff, flail and scythe attacks can be chained through acrobatics and evasive movement, and enemies punish players who fail to understand their spacing or attack patterns. The pace is often quicker than Devil May Cry because movement and defense are inseparable from offense.
Rank #2
- Witch fell her angel with her smile and beautiful black hair
- The Nintendo Switch is the origin of the action game series that works with the beautiful and brutal witch "Beyonetta"
- The thrill of throwing off your enemy attacks with a single sheet of paper, and the variety of combos will overwhelm your enemy. You can enjoy brilliant and extreme climax action with the angels of attacking
Who should choose it
This is the pick for players who enjoy learning an enemy’s reach, identifying a safe interruption and repeating a fight until the response becomes automatic. Five difficulty levels let you scale the challenge, but the game’s central demand remains the same: read the battlefield, commit to a weapon chain and dodge before an opponent closes the gap. It offers less of the broad exploration and character-driven drama found in the RPGs below, concentrating its value in combat encounters.
NieR:Automata: stylish combat with a large story
Combat and progression
NieR:Automata combines balletic melee attacks with ranged Pod fire, timed dodges and aerial movement. Bosses can switch from close-quarters patterns to bullet-hell formations, forcing you to change distance and attention rather than relying on one combo route. Its controls are approachable at first, but weapon selection, chips and difficulty settings leave room for optimization.
Why it suits a different kind of DMC fan
The game adds an open-world action-RPG structure, side quests and multiple endings. That means combat is not always the immediate focus: exploration, equipment decisions and narrative repetition are part of the design. Choose it when you want stylish fights to support a melancholy science-fiction story rather than an uninterrupted arena-to-arena campaign.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsSales and editions
PlatinumGames recorded more than 7.5 million copies sold in 2023. The listed platforms are PlayStation 4, Steam, Xbox, Windows and Nintendo Switch. The PlayStation 4 North American release was March 7, 2017; the Steam release was March 18, 2017; and the Switch edition, The End of YoRHa Edition, launched October 6, 2022. The official Switch listing gives a $39.99 price for that edition; treat it as the listed price, not a guarantee of the current store price.

- Shoot, stomp, and slam your way through multiple locations and meet other Bayonettas

- Unleash Bayonetta’s Infernal Demons in larger-than-life battles

Final Fantasy XVI: dark-fantasy spectacle first
Combat focus
Final Fantasy XVI translates swordplay, magic and summon powers into a cinematic real-time system. The protagonist can string weapon attacks into ability combinations and call on different Eikonic powers, while large boss encounters turn into staged clashes that change perspective and scale. The spectacle is closer to an action blockbuster than to a pure score-attack fighter.
Story and tone
The setting is a darker political fantasy filled with rival powers, exploitation and supernatural destruction. Select this game if the appeal of Devil May Cry includes demonology, dramatic rivalries and operatic presentation, but you also want a long narrative campaign. Its broader story load means fewer moments of the highly technical enemy laboratory that defines NINJA GAIDEN 2 Black.
Hi-Fi Rush: when every attack has a beat
How rhythm changes the action
Hi-Fi Rush makes timing audible and visible. Attacks, dodges and parries are strongest when they align with the track, although the game remains playable if your timing is imperfect. Environmental animations pulse to the music, giving ordinary movement and enemy telegraphs a shared rhythm.
Music and replay value
The soundtrack includes Nine Inch Nails, The Black Keys and The Prodigy. After the main story, the BPM RUSH! challenge mode provides a dedicated test of speed and consistency. Choose this one when you want the satisfaction of a stylish combo game but are willing to replace gothic darkness with colorful animation and musical feedback.
Rank #4
- Once upon a time, there was a young witch named Cereza
- Long before this trainee of the dark arts would come to be called Bayonetta, she took a fateful journey into the forbidden Avalon Forest. Alongside her was Cheshire, her very first demon, possessing Cereza’s stuffed toy. Play as both Cereza and Cheshire and search through the treacherous forest to look for the power to save Cereza’s mother
- Any good story has a lesson about teamwork, no, In this tale, Cereza and Cheshire coordinate their efforts to fight faeries and solve puzzles. Use the Left Joy-Con controller to move Cereza and bind enemies with her magic. With the Right Joy-Con controller, move Cheshire to slash and chomp foes
- Turn the pages of Cereza’s story as you explore the enchanting, storybook-inspired Avalon Forest. Avalon Forest is just as beautiful as it is beastly. Each new area looks like it has been painted carefully by hand. Fully-narrated story scenes are told through the vibrantly-illustrated pages of a storybook. Be sure to stop and smell the roses in this whimsical world, but don’t tarry too long – the forest has a taste for lost witches
SIFU: disciplined parries and repeat mastery
The aging-on-defeat system
SIFU centers on a revenge story in which every defeat ages the protagonist. Age increases strength but reduces health, so a failed attempt can make later fights more powerful and more fragile at the same time. Repeated runs can permanently unlock moves, turning practice into long-term progression rather than a simple restart.
How it plays
Combat is built around flowing strikes, parries, dodges and positioning in compact environments. There are no firearms or demon transformations; the stylishness comes from redirecting attacks, using nearby objects and maintaining control of several opponents. Pick it if the defensive precision of a Devil May Cry perfect dodge matters more to you than weapon collecting or fantasy spectacle.
God of War Ragnarök: mythic weapons and flexible builds
Weapons and customization
God of War Ragnarök offers the Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos, each with distinct reach, elemental behavior and recall or chain mechanics. Shield choices affect defense and counterattacks, while customizable Runic Attacks let you shape a build around burst damage, crowd control or safer spacing. The result is deliberate and weighty rather than as acrobatic as Bayonetta.
Additional mode
Owners of the full game receive the Valhalla roguelike DLC at no extra charge. It rearranges combat challenges into repeatable runs, making the game more attractive if you want a post-campaign mode focused on experimenting with weapons and abilities.

Stellar Blade: upgradeable combos and body horror
Combat progression
Stellar Blade foregrounds unlockable combo routes, new moves and weapon upgrades. Progression therefore changes not only damage numbers but also what your character can do in an encounter. Timing-based defensive options and special attacks reward players who study enemy tells while still providing the visual payoff of cinematic finishers.
Atmosphere
Its alien enemies, body-horror imagery and religious symbolism give the action a darker edge. It is a good choice when you want modern presentation and spectacle but do not require the exaggerated weapon roster or free-form style ranking associated with Devil May Cry.

Buying advice for the two clearly documented editions
Bayonetta on Switch
Search for the exact phrase “Bayonetta Nintendo Switch game” if you are shopping on a large marketplace. Confirm whether the listing is physical or digital, check the seller and region, and verify stock and price on the day you order. The official release information confirms both formats, but marketplace inventory changes.
NieR:Automata The End of YoRHa Edition
The Switch edition is the relevant choice for Nintendo hardware and has an official listed price of $39.99. Treat that figure as a reference point: regional taxes, sales and later price changes can alter the amount shown at checkout.
A practical play order
- Begin with Bayonetta to test whether the closest combat language is what you want.
- Move to NINJA GAIDEN 2 Black if you want less spectacle and more pressure from enemy behavior.
- Choose NieR:Automata or Final Fantasy XVI when story, exploration and world-building should occupy a larger share of your time.
- Use Hi-Fi Rush for a lighter, rhythm-centered change of pace without abandoning stylish action.
- Pick SIFU when you want to drill defensive timing through repeated runs.
- Finish with God of War Ragnarök or Stellar Blade for weapon experimentation, cinematic encounters and upgrade-driven progression.
For the most direct answer, buy or play Bayonetta first. It preserves the central pleasure of turning technical combat into a performance, while the other seven games let you choose whether that performance should become harder, darker, more story-heavy, more rhythmic or more build-focused.
