It is a defined, story-led, third-person co-op RPG shooter for one to three players, with classes, abilities, guns and loot. Choose Helldivers 2 for four-player mission squads, Warframe for free-to-play sci-fi builds and movement, Destiny 2 for a persistent shared world, or Remnant II for the most demanding third-person co-op combat.
No game reproduces the entire combination of Mass Effect 3’s cinematic squad identity, class interactions and Galaxy at War progression. The useful question is which part you want to preserve when looking for “games like Mass Effect 3 multiplayer,” “games like Mass Effect 3 with co-op,” or asking, “what should I play after Mass Effect 3 multiplayer?”

What each recommendation preserves
| Game | Best match for | What it offers | Important difference from Mass Effect 3 multiplayer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Outriders | Story-driven co-op RPG shooting | Third-person gunplay, classes, powers, loot and a defined one-to-three-player campaign | More loot-driven and campaign-focused; it does not recreate Galaxy at War’s wave-defense structure |
| Helldivers 2 | Coordinated squad missions | Online co-op PvE, third-person shooting and a four-player science-fiction squad format | Mission chaos and friendly-fire risk replace character-driven presentation |
| Warframe | Free-to-play builds and long-term progression | Cooperative third-person sci-fi action, distinct abilities, melee, acrobatics and space combat | Much faster and more system-heavy, with a broad live-service structure rather than a focused campaign |
| Destiny 2 | Persistent shared-world progression | First-person shooting, RPG systems, cooperative activities and an ongoing science-fiction world | Its viewpoint and continuing seasonal/content structure differ from Mass Effect’s third-person campaign framing |
| Remnant II | Difficult co-op combat and loot | Third-person shooting, RPG progression, build choices and loot | More challenge- and build-driven, with less emphasis on party dialogue and space opera |
These are feature matches, not exact replacements. Mass Effect 3’s Galaxy at War multiplayer combined cooperative missions with playable species and classes, while weapons and character types were unlocked through play. That specific structure, presentation and progression mix remains unusual.
1. Outriders: the closest overall fit
Why it is the first game to try
Square Enix describes Outriders as “a 1-3 player co-op RPG shooter set in an original, dark and desperate sci-fi universe.” That description covers the core reason it is the strongest answer for most players moving on from Mass Effect 3 multiplayer: you form a small team, select a combat role, combine powers with gunfire and advance through a science-fiction campaign built for cooperation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Its third-person viewpoint keeps your character, weapons and abilities visible in the same way Mass Effect 3 made class identity readable during a fight. The RPG-shooter structure also gives every mission two simultaneous goals: survive the encounter and improve the build that will handle the next one. Players who enjoyed changing classes, experimenting with weapons and coordinating powers will recognize that rhythm.
How the campaign changes the experience
Outriders is campaign-focused rather than a repeatable Galaxy at War-style wave-defense mode. You are following a defined journey through its setting instead of selecting a succession of self-contained multiplayer operations built around a war-readiness meter. That makes it a better choice if you want narrative momentum between battles, but a less exact fit if your favorite Mass Effect 3 sessions were short defensive runs with rotating maps and characters.
The one-to-three-player limit also matters. A full group consists of three players, not four, so a fourth friend requires a different recommendation. The smaller party can make each class and ability choice feel more consequential, while the campaign structure gives the group a clear reason to continue playing together.
Who should choose Outriders
- Choose it if a story-led science-fiction campaign matters as much as shooting.
- Choose it if you want third-person combat with classes, powers and loot in one package.
- Choose it if you usually play with one or two friends and prefer a defined cooperative progression path.
- Do not choose it expecting Mass Effect’s squad conversations, romance systems or Galaxy at War presentation; those are not part of the documented comparison.
2. Helldivers 2: four-player mission squads
Why it fits cooperative shooters
The Helldivers 2 Steam listing presents online co-op PvE, third-person shooting and a squad-based science-fiction setting. Its strongest connection to Mass Effect 3 multiplayer is therefore the shared mission: several players enter a combat zone, coordinate objectives and rely on one another to extract successfully.
The four-player squad framing is a practical advantage for groups that regularly have four people online. It also creates a different kind of class synergy. Instead of building a carefully composed party around cinematic companions, players coordinate their equipment and battlefield actions while the mission is unfolding. Communication, positioning and timing matter more than dialogue choices.
The tone and failure model
Helldivers 2 is intentionally chaotic and comedic where Mass Effect 3 is dramatic and character-led. Friendly fire is a meaningful risk in that style of mission design: a poorly placed attack can hurt the people standing beside you. The resulting tension comes from avoiding mistakes under pressure, not from protecting a relationship-driven squad.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.

That distinction should guide your expectations. If you want a serious space-opera story with recurring squadmates, Helldivers 2 will feel like a genre shift. If you want repeatable cooperative missions in which a group improvises under pressure, it may be the better fit than a campaign RPG.

Who should choose Helldivers 2
- Choose it for a regular four-person group and mission-based PvE.
- Choose it if emergent mistakes, frantic extraction attempts and squad communication sound appealing.
- Choose it when you value repeatable operations over a continuous character campaign.
- Skip it if friendly-fire chaos or a comedic tone would undermine the mood you want from science-fiction multiplayer.
3. Warframe: free-to-play action and build variety
What makes it distinct
Warframe is the recommendation for players who want the broadest action system rather than the closest campaign shape. Space.com describes it as cooperative third-person science-fiction action with unique abilities, melee, acrobatics and space combat. Those ingredients create a faster, more mobile experience than Mass Effect 3’s cover-oriented firefights.
The ability to combine ranged weapons, melee attacks and acrobatic movement makes positioning an active part of the build. You are not simply choosing which gun to carry into a mission; you are deciding how movement, powers and close-quarters attacks fit together. Distinct ability sets encourage experimentation, while long-term progression gives you reasons to keep refining a preferred play style.
Why it is not a direct sequel in spirit
Warframe has a much broader live-service structure. Its systems, missions and progression span a large evolving game rather than a compact multiplayer campaign attached to a single numbered entry. That scale is valuable if you enjoy collecting options and learning interconnected mechanics, but it can feel less immediate than Mass Effect 3’s squad-and-mission loop.
Its free-to-play model lowers the initial barrier to trying the combat, although the relevant content, platform availability and current store terms can change. Check the current listing for your platform before assuming that every activity or edition is available to your group.
Who should choose Warframe
- Choose it if free-to-play access is a deciding factor.
- Choose it if movement, melee and highly differentiated abilities matter more than cinematic dialogue.
- Choose it if you want a long-term system to master rather than a short, finite campaign.
- Expect a steeper learning curve and more menus, currencies and interconnected progression than in a focused co-op shooter.
4. Destiny 2: a persistent shared-world alternative
Why it appeals to Mass Effect players
Destiny 2 is built around a persistent shared science-fiction world, RPG systems and cooperative activities. That makes it suitable for players who want multiplayer to remain part of an ongoing hobby rather than a campaign they finish once. Your group can return for different cooperative activities while continuing to develop characters and equipment.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.

The RPG layer supplies the long-term motivation that Mass Effect 3 players often seek after completing a roster of classes and weapons. Cooperative play is one part of a larger world, so the game can support different session lengths and objectives instead of asking the group to repeat one mission format.
The first-person trade-off
Destiny 2 uses first-person gunplay, while Mass Effect 3 and the other recommendations here use a third-person perspective except for Destiny 2. That changes how you read the battlefield and how visible your character’s equipment and movement feel. If seeing your armor, powers and animations is central to the appeal, this is a substantial difference rather than a minor camera preference.
Its ongoing seasonal and content structure also means the experience is not fixed. Activities, availability and the amount of current content can change over time. Treat it as a living shared world, not as a static package that will always present the same progression path.

Who should choose Destiny 2
- Choose it if you want a persistent world with continuing cooperative activities.
- Choose it if first-person shooting is acceptable and long-term RPG progression is important.
- Choose it if your group wants different kinds of co-op sessions inside one shared setting.
- Look elsewhere if a third-person, campaign-first presentation is non-negotiable.
5. Remnant II: the challenge-and-build option
What it preserves
Remnant II is a third-person shooter with RPG progression and loot. It is the best fit when the part you remember most from Mass Effect 3 multiplayer is the satisfaction of improving a build, learning enemy behavior and clearing difficult encounters with dependable teammates.
The third-person camera keeps combat readable, while RPG progression and loot give repeated runs a reason to continue. A group can discuss roles, adapt equipment and improve through practice. That creates class-and-build conversations even though the game is not centered on Mass Effect-style squad dialogue.
How its priorities differ
Remnant II is more challenge-driven and build-driven than cinematic. Its appeal comes from combat decisions and progression rather than party banter or a broad space-opera campaign. Players who want the emotional continuity of recurring companions should treat it as a combat substitute, not a narrative one.

Who should choose Remnant II
- Choose it if difficult third-person co-op is your priority.
- Choose it if loot and build improvement are more important than a large shared world.
- Choose it if your group enjoys learning encounters and adjusting tactics.
- Do not expect a Galaxy at War-style social layer or a dialogue-led campaign.
Compare the features that matter most
Story and campaign continuity
Outriders is the clearest campaign-led choice. It gives the group a defined science-fiction journey. Destiny 2 provides continuity through a persistent shared world rather than one contained campaign. Helldivers 2 emphasizes individual missions, while Warframe offers a broad evolving structure. Remnant II gives narrative context, but its main reason to replay is combat challenge and build development.
Squad size
| Game | Documented group format | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| Outriders | 1–3 players | Best for solo play or a group of up to three |
| Helldivers 2 | Four-player squad framing | Best match for a regular four-person team |
| Warframe | Not stated in the supplied product description | Check the current activity and platform listing |
| Destiny 2 | Not stated in the supplied comparison evidence | Group size depends on the cooperative activity |
| Remnant II | Not stated in the supplied comparison evidence | Check the current platform and activity details |
Perspective, abilities and synergy
Outriders, Helldivers 2, Warframe and Remnant II use third-person shooting, preserving the over-the-shoulder relationship between your character and the battlefield. Destiny 2 is the first-person exception. Warframe offers the most pronounced movement and melee emphasis. Outriders most directly combines visible class powers with RPG-shooter equipment. Helldivers 2 makes coordination the center of the mission. Remnant II turns build choices and execution into the main test.
Progression and loot
Outriders and Remnant II put loot and build development close to the center of their co-op loops. Warframe is the broadest long-term progression system among these options. Destiny 2 uses RPG progression inside a persistent world. Helldivers 2 is best approached as mission coordination first; its match is the squad experience rather than a replacement for Mass Effect 3’s playable-species and character-unlock structure.
Difficulty and tone
Helldivers 2 is chaotic and comedic, with the possibility of friendly-fire mistakes. Remnant II is the most explicitly challenge-oriented recommendation. Outriders is the more controlled campaign RPG. Warframe is fast, acrobatic and system-heavy. Destiny 2 balances cooperative activities inside an ongoing world and therefore changes tone and intensity with the activity you select.
Choose by your actual priority
If you want the nearest all-round substitute
Pick Outriders. It is the only recommendation that combines a defined science-fiction co-op campaign, third-person RPG shooting, classes, powers and loot in one straightforward package. Its one-to-three-player structure and campaign focus are the trade-offs.
If four friends need a game tonight
Pick Helldivers 2. The four-player squad framing is its clearest practical advantage. Go in expecting mission chaos and coordination rather than companion conversations or a relationship-driven narrative.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
If you want to spend nothing up front
Start with Warframe, whose documented model is free-to-play. Its value is breadth: abilities, melee, acrobatics, space combat and a long-term live-service structure. Confirm current platform support and store terms for your region.
If you want an ongoing hobby
Pick Destiny 2 for a persistent shared world and continuing cooperative activities, or Warframe for a more movement-heavy, system-rich progression path. Destiny 2’s first-person view is the key compromise; Warframe’s complexity is the key compromise.
If combat mastery matters more than story
Pick Remnant II. It concentrates the experience on challenging third-person encounters, RPG progression and loot. Pick Helldivers 2 instead when you prefer unpredictable squad missions to deliberate build-and-encounter mastery.

No recommendation duplicates Galaxy at War
Mass Effect 3 multiplayer’s reference profile is unusually specific: cooperative missions, playable species and classes, unlockable weapons and character types, and a Galaxy at War progression context. The games above preserve selected pieces of that formula, not all of them at once. Decide whether your priority is campaign continuity, squad coordination, third-person combat, ability synergy, loot or long-term progression before choosing.
Check current availability
Platform support, editions, pricing, live-service content and regional store listings can change. Verify the current listing for every member of your group, especially when selecting a game because of its free-to-play model or a particular cooperative activity. The documented Outriders player range and Helldivers 2 squad framing describe their intended formats, but they do not guarantee identical matchmaking, cross-platform or edition features.
Use the right mental model for each game
- Outriders: a co-op RPG campaign with loot.
- Helldivers 2: a four-player mission sandbox where coordination and mistakes create the drama.
- Warframe: a fast, free-to-play action platform with extensive build experimentation.
- Destiny 2: a first-person shared world whose cooperative activities sit inside ongoing content.
- Remnant II: a demanding third-person combat game where builds and execution carry the experience.
That framing prevents the most common disappointment: selecting a game for one shared feature, then expecting it to reproduce every other part of Mass Effect 3 multiplayer.
