If you want battle-royale shooting without Fortnite’s building, start with Apex Legends for squad-focused play, PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS for a drop-loot-survive format, or Call of Duty: Warzone if you value a mode that lets teammates return after being eliminated. They share a no-building appeal, not identical movement, defenses, or match pacing.
What makes a game feel like Fortnite Zero Build?
Epic defines Zero Build as a no-build game focused on sharpshooting and quick reactions. Fortnite’s mode removes in-game building, while its own movement options include sprinting and climbing. Zero Build also gives players a recharging Overshield as an initial defensive layer. (Epic’s Zero Build documentation; Epic’s Zero Build announcement; Fortnite Store listing)

So the useful comparison is not “which game is Fortnite without building?” It is which one preserves the parts you enjoy: squad combat, a shrinking survival space, looting, or ways to get teammates back into a match.
Which no-building battle royale should you try?
| Game | Best fit | What the cited official source establishes | Teammate return after elimination |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apex Legends | Players who want squad battle royale plus other modes | Battle Royale is framed as a last-squad-standing mode; Mixtape is also listed. | Not stated on the cited modes page. |
| PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS | Players drawn to dropping in, looting, and surviving the zone | 100-player battle royale with Solo, Duo, and Squad options, looting, vehicles, and a damaging Blue Zone that shrinks the safe area. | Not stated on the cited overview. |
| Call of Duty: Warzone | Squads that want a redeployment option | Offers Battle Royale and Resurgence; Resurgence includes redeploying fallen teammates, with score helping them return faster. | Yes, in Resurgence, according to the official mode description. |
These are different ways to replace building with combat, movement, and positioning. The official descriptions do not provide a shared quality or player-count measure, so there is no evidence-based overall winner.

Apex Legends: choose it for squad battle royale
Apex is the most direct pick here if the part you want to keep is a team trying to outlast other squads. EA describes Battle Royale as last-squad-standing and lists Mixtape as another mode. That gives you a core squad-survival option alongside a different mode choice, without suggesting that Apex reproduces Fortnite’s mechanics. (EA’s Apex Legends modes page)
Pick Apex if team-based battle royale is the priority. The cited official page does not establish how its difficulty, pace, or player population compares with Fortnite, so those are better treated as personal preferences than settled facts.

PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS: choose it for the survival loop
PUBG’s official overview describes a 100-player match that begins with a transport-plane drop. Players loot and can use vehicles while the Blue Zone shrinks and damages anyone who stays outside it. Solo, Duo, and Squad formats are listed, as is a training mode. (PUBG’s official game overview)

Call of Duty: Warzone: choose it for Resurgence redeployment
Warzone’s official page lists Battle Royale and Resurgence. In its description of Resurgence, fallen teammates can be redeployed, and earning score helps bring them back faster. - You enjoy looting and watching the safe area: PUBG’s overview specifically describes looting and a shrinking, damaging Blue Zone.
- You want eliminated teammates to have a way back: Warzone’s Resurgence description includes teammate redeployment; the cited Apex and PUBG pages do not establish an equivalent mechanic.
- You want other modes besides a battle royale: EA lists Mixtape alongside Apex Battle Royale.

Confirm the current official listing for your platform before downloading or buying. PUBG Update 42.1, dated June 16, 2026, says controller support was added to its PC version, but specifically excludes PlayStation DualSense and DualShock controllers; that note should not be generalized to other games or platforms.
