If you like Dune: Awakening for its survival, crafting and base-building loop, start with Grounded, Conan Exiles and Rust Console Edition. They are genre-adjacent alternatives, not copies: each shifts the balance between environmental survival, building and danger from other players. Choose by the part of the experience you want most, and confirm the current PS5 edition and online requirements for your region before buying.
What makes Dune: Awakening the comparison point
PlayStation describes Dune: Awakening as an open-world survival game with adventure and RPG elements. Its advertised features include exploring Arrakis, crafting, combat, base construction and a cinematic story. The setting shapes survival too: players contend with the planet’s harsh climate, seek shade, process water and travel using vehicles such as an ornithopter. These are the publisher’s descriptions, not a claim that the games below reproduce the same experience. PlayStation’s US product page lists a PS5 edition and describes single-player and shared-server multiplayer options.

The PS5 product page says PS Plus is required for online play but not for single-player. A July 2, 2026 PlayStation Blog announcement by Funcom’s Chief Marketing Officer Erling Ellingsen says the PS5 edition includes a full single-player mode and configurable difficulty and gameplay options. Ellingsen described the studio’s accessibility approach as “Not less challenging, but less challenging to learn.” That is a developer’s stated intent, not an independent assessment.
Three PS5 survival games to compare
PlayStation’s survival-game guide recommends all three titles below alongside Dune: Awakening. The guide’s Dune release wording is stale, so use it for the game descriptions rather than release status; the official Dune product page and dated announcement support the PS5 details above. The descriptions in the table come from PlayStation’s guide. They establish useful differences in setting and emphasis, but do not establish which game is closest overall or how any performs in hands-on play.
Grounded: choose a different scale
Grounded moves survival from a vast desert to a backyard world. PlayStation’s description points to creatures, customizable play, mutations and weapons you can upgrade, with threats to your base. It suits players who want survival and building in a deliberately smaller-scale setting rather than Arrakis’s science-fiction landscape.

Conan Exiles: choose harsh survival and construction
Conan Exiles pairs a harsh environment with hunting, crafting, cooking, combat and base building. Its fantasy setting makes it a better comparison if the draw is managing survival needs and constructing a foothold—not matching Dune’s science-fiction story or desert technology.
Rust Console Edition: choose exposure to other players
Rust Console Edition puts other players at the center of the threat. PlayStation highlights scavenging, shelters, equipment and alliances in an online survival setting. Consider it if social risk and player conflict are the features you want; it is a different proposition from a survival game whose appeal is primarily its setting, crafting or story.

- Want environmental survival and crafting? Compare Dune: Awakening with Conan Exiles, while keeping their science-fiction and fantasy settings distinct.
- Want building with threats near your base? Look at Grounded and its backyard-scale creatures and base threats.
- Want other players to be a major source of danger? Rust Console Edition is the clearest fit among these descriptions.
- Need solo play or a particular online setup? Check the exact game edition’s current product page for modes, PS5 compatibility and any subscription requirement. The available PlayStation information confirms Dune’s PS5 and single-player subscription distinction, but does not verify current PS5 editions or online requirements for every alternative.
Check edition and online requirements before buying
Platform availability, online features and service requirements can depend on edition and region. The PlayStation guide names these games as PlayStation survival recommendations, but that alone does not verify a current PS5 edition for each title. Before purchasing, open the PlayStation Store listing for your region, confirm the platform shown on the exact edition, and read its online-play and PS Plus details. Do not assume that a subscription rule stated for Dune: Awakening applies to the other games.
