For Borderlands-style co-op shooting and loot, Borderlands 4 is the closest fit. If by “Borderlands MMO” you mean a persistent shared world with ongoing activities, Destiny 2 is the stronger match. The Division 2 offers tactical third-person co-op, while The First Descendant centers on co-op boss fights. These games suit different tastes rather than serving as interchangeable copies.
First, what do you mean by “Borderlands MMO”?
Borderlands is known for campaign-focused co-op, shooting, and loot. Someone searching for a “Borderlands MMO” may want that same feel with friends, or may be looking for a persistent shared world that keeps adding activities. Those are different needs: start with Borderlands 4 for the former and Destiny 2 for the latter.

Best games to try
Borderlands 4: closest to Borderlands co-op and loot
If your priority is familiar Borderlands-style shooting and loot with a party, start with Borderlands 4. Take-Two and 2K describe it as designed for co-op, with instanced loot for each player, dynamic level scaling, and individual difficulty. Those features are meant to keep a party together through the campaign without making every player share the same loot or difficulty setting.
#1 Best Overall
The game is listed for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It is a paid game, so check the current edition and platform listing before buying; availability and editions can differ by storefront.
Destiny 2: closest to the shared-world interpretation
Choose Destiny 2 if you want an evolving shared world and a wider mix of ongoing co-op and competitive activities, including strikes and raids. It is a better match for the MMO part of the search than a campaign-first Borderlands-style experience.

The Division 2 is a tactical third-person shooter RPG built around weapons, gear, campaign missions, and endgame progression. Ubisoft also lists co-op, PvP, and Dark Zones among its modes.
