If you want another story-driven Ace Combat campaign, start with Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. If you want a separate take on missile-heavy dogfights, especially with PC flight hardware or VR, look at Project Wingman. Neither comparison should be treated as a confirmed substitute for Ace Combat 8’s current cross-play and co-op modes.
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve launched worldwide on October 2, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. It combines arcade-inspired jet combat with a story campaign, cinematic scenes, real-world aircraft, and weather that affects play. Its Strangereal story follows the Wings of Theve and Joker Flight as the Federation of Central Usea fights the Republic of Sotoa. Bandai Namco’s game overview has the launch and campaign details.

Project Wingman offers a different arcade-flight take
Project Wingman is a separate game that PC Gamer describes as Ace Combat-inspired. It is worth considering if you want missile-heavy arcade dogfights but are open to a different setting and approach rather than another entry in the series.
Why PC players may prefer it
PC Gamer highlights its Conquest Mode, where players fight for territory and build an air fleet. The same coverage reports HOTAS compatibility and native VR support, making it a possible fit for players who want to use a flight stick or VR headset. Those features are not a promise that every controller, stick, or headset setup will work; check the current store information and your hardware’s compatibility before purchasing. A flight stick is not established as a requirement.
