Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For most people, the Backbone One (2nd generation) USB-C is the best gamepad for playing Far Cry on an Android phone. It plugs directly into compatible phones, has pass-through charging and a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and is designed for cloud and remote-play services. The Razer Kishi V2 is a similarly compact alternative; the Backbone Pro Xbox Edition is better when you also want to play on a tablet, PC or TV; and the full-size Xbox Wireless Controller is the most comfortable choice if portability is less important.
Far Cry is generally not being run as a native Android game in this setup. You normally stream it through Xbox Cloud Gaming, console remote play or PC streaming, so the service catalog, region, network and phone compatibility matter as much as the controller.

Can you play Far Cry on an Android phone with a gamepad?
Yes, but the usual route is streaming rather than installing a native Android version. You can stream a supported Far Cry title from Xbox Cloud Gaming, mirror an Xbox or PlayStation console with remote play, or stream a PC installation through a service such as Steam Link. The controller sends input to the streamed game while the phone displays the video feed.

Xbox says cloud-playable titles and features vary by time, region, Game Pass plan and platform. Its mobile guidance says that Xbox Cloud Gaming supports Android phones and tablets running Android 12 or later, and recommends a 5 GHz Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection of at least 20 Mbps. Xbox also states that “Most titles in the XBOX Game Pass library are available to stream from the cloud.” That is not a guarantee that every Far Cry release is currently included, so check the catalog for the exact game in your country before buying hardware.

Ubisoft’s Far Cry New Dawn support information lists Xbox One, DualShock 4, XInput and named DirectInput gamepads for the PC version. It warns that controllers outside that list may work but are not officially supported. Those details describe Far Cry’s PC controller conventions; they do not establish that a native Android Far Cry application exists.

How to choose a Far Cry controller for Android
Start with the streaming route
A controller cannot make an unavailable game appear in a service. Decide whether you will use Xbox Cloud Gaming, Xbox remote play, PlayStation remote play, Steam Link or another PC-streaming service. The service determines sign-in steps, supported games and whether your phone needs a current operating-system version. For Xbox Cloud Gaming, confirm Android 12 or later and plan for the recommended 20 Mbps connection before comparing extra features.
Check the phone and connector
Telescopic controllers grip the phone itself, so measure the handset and account for its case. A USB-C model must reach the phone’s USB-C port without the case blocking the plug. Some phones place the port off-center or have camera bumps that interfere with a controller arm. Remove a thick case if necessary, or choose a separate Bluetooth controller and stand.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Choose wired USB-C or Bluetooth
A direct USB-C connection normally eliminates pairing menus and avoids maintaining a controller battery. It is convenient for a phone-only setup, but it limits you to devices with a suitable port and may require case removal. Bluetooth works with phones, tablets and televisions and is useful when you want to sit farther away, although it introduces pairing and charging steps.
Match the shape to your hands
Telescopic grips put the screen between two compact halves and travel easily. Their short handles can feel cramped during a long first-person campaign, particularly for larger hands. A full-size pad gives your palms more support and usually has larger sticks, but it needs a phone clip, stand or nearby surface. A larger multi-device controller is a better compromise if you alternate between handheld and TV play.

Prioritize useful extras
- Pass-through charging: lets you charge the phone while the controller is attached, subject to the phone and service allowing it.
- Headphone output: a 3.5 mm jack can avoid Bluetooth-audio delay and keep game sound private.
- Rear buttons: provide additional inputs for actions you use repeatedly, if the game or app supports remapping.
- Battery capacity: matters for Bluetooth controllers; a wired pad draws from the phone instead.
- Remapping and app support: check whether your streaming app recognizes the controller’s standard buttons without a separate mapper.
Backbone One (2nd generation) USB-C: best compact plug-in choice
The Backbone One (2nd generation) USB-C is the easiest recommendation when your main screen is an Android phone. Tom’s Guide lists Android and iOS support, USB-C or Lightning connectivity, pass-through charging and a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and describes it as a plug-and-play option for controller-supported mobile games. The USB-C Android version keeps the phone and controls in one handheld unit, which is particularly practical when you move between rooms or travel.
Why it fits cloud and remote play
Backbone’s support documentation covers Xbox Cloud Gaming, Xbox and PlayStation remote play, Steam Link, GeForce Now and Amazon Luna workflows. You still need an account and an eligible game in the chosen service, but the controller’s standard layout is intended for these controller-aware apps rather than touch-only games.
What to check before ordering
- Confirm that your phone uses USB-C and meets the streaming service’s Android requirement.
- Compare your phone’s dimensions with the controller’s published fit range.
- Test whether your case can remain on the phone; a thick or rugged case commonly prevents a secure connection.
- Leave room for the phone’s camera bump and make sure the USB-C plug seats fully.
Choose this model when low setup friction, wired input and a headphone jack matter more than using the same controller on a television without the phone attached.
Razer Kishi V2: compact alternative
The Razer Kishi V2 is another telescopic option for Android and iOS. Tom’s Guide highlights its compact construction, improved phone compatibility, tactile buttons and pass-through charging. It is a sensible choice when you want a direct USB-C connection and a travel-friendly profile.
Trade-offs compared with the Backbone One
The Kishi V2 has no headphone jack, so you will use the phone’s wireless audio, its own audio routing or another adapter. Its small handles can also feel tight for large hands during extended Far Cry sessions. Those are comfort and audio considerations rather than streaming limitations, but they can determine whether a portable controller remains enjoyable after the novelty wears off.

- Compatible with Android devices and fits mobile devices ranging from 100mm to 170mm in length.
- Hall Effect Joysticks and Triggers
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light and tactile.
- 2 Pro back paddle buttons
- Profile button. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings. Turbo function.
Verify the exact Android USB-C model and your phone’s fit before purchase. Product names can cover different connector versions, and a controller designed for a different port will not become compatible through an adapter in every case.
Backbone Pro Xbox Edition: premium multi-screen option
The Backbone Pro Xbox Edition is aimed at people who do not want a phone-only accessory. Backbone lists full-size ALPS joysticks, rear buttons, Bluetooth Low Energy, USB-C, cloud and console streaming support, and Android 10.0-or-later compatibility. It is rated for up to 40 hours of battery life by Backbone; that is a manufacturer figure, not a Far Cry-specific test result.
When the larger controller makes sense
Use it if you expect to switch among a phone, tablet, PC and smart TV. Bluetooth lets you move between screens without keeping the controller physically attached to a phone, while USB-C provides a wired option. The larger body and full-size sticks offer more hand support than a compact telescopic grip, and rear buttons can place frequently used functions under your fingers when the app permits remapping.
The trade-off is portability. It is less pocketable than a controller that folds around a phone, and you must keep its battery charged for wireless play. Its Android requirement is Android 10.0 or later according to Backbone, but Xbox Cloud Gaming itself requires Android 12 or later, so the service requirement is the stricter one for Xbox cloud sessions.
Xbox Wireless Controller: best full-size standard
Xbox says compatible controllers can connect to Android by Bluetooth or a wired connection and identifies official Xbox and PlayStation controllers among supported cloud-gaming options. The Xbox Wireless Controller is therefore a strong choice if you already own one, prefer a familiar full-size layout or intend to play on a television as often as on a phone.

Plan for a phone mount
A full-size controller does not hold the phone by itself. Add a compatible clip, use a stand or place the phone nearby. A clip increases the weight above your hands and can make the setup less comfortable than a telescopic grip, but it preserves the controller’s larger handles and familiar stick spacing.
Wired versus Bluetooth with Xbox
Bluetooth avoids a cable and works across more screens. A wired USB connection can simplify pairing and avoids relying on the controller’s wireless battery, but the cable must reach the phone or tablet and the device must support the required USB connection. In either case, the streaming service and network remain the sources of video latency; changing controllers cannot fix an overloaded Wi-Fi link.

Xbox Cloud Gaming on Android
- Update the phone to Android 12 or later, which Xbox lists as the supported Android baseline for cloud gaming.
- Use a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network or mobile data that can deliver at least 20 Mbps, Xbox’s recommended speed.
- Sign in to the Xbox service in the supported app or browser, then search the current catalog for the exact Far Cry title.
- Connect the controller. For a Backbone One or Kishi V2, attach the phone to USB-C. For an Xbox Wireless Controller or Backbone Pro, pair Bluetooth or connect a cable.
- Launch the game and confirm that the on-screen prompts match the controller. If the service still shows touch controls, disconnect and reconnect the pad, then restart the streaming session.
Availability can change with region, plan and licensing. A game appearing in one country’s catalog or on one date does not establish universal access.
Xbox or PlayStation remote play
- Install and sign in to the relevant remote-play app on the Android phone.
- Enable remote-play features on the console and make sure it is connected to the internet.
- Pair the controller using USB-C or Bluetooth, following the app’s supported-device guidance.
- Start the console session, select Far Cry from the installed library and keep the console powered and connected while you play.
Remote play streams from your own console, so the game must be installed there. It does not depend on the cloud catalog, but your home upload speed, console connection and phone network affect responsiveness.

- Install the streaming client on Android and its companion component on the PC.
- Sign in or pair the devices on the same network when the service requests it.
- Connect the controller before starting the stream so the client can pass standard gamepad input to Far Cry.
- Launch the PC edition and select the game’s controller layout if it does not switch automatically.
Ubisoft’s New Dawn support list is useful here because it identifies Xbox One, DualShock 4, XInput and named DirectInput devices for PC. Treat that list as PC compatibility guidance, not as proof of Android-native support.

Connection, comfort and latency troubleshooting
The phone does not recognize a USB-C controller
- Remove the case and reseat the plug so it reaches the port fully.
- Check that the controller variant matches Android USB-C rather than Lightning.
- Restart the streaming app after connecting the controller.
- Test the phone’s USB-C port with another accessory; lint, damage or a loose port can interrupt data even when charging works.
Bluetooth pairing fails or drops
- Charge the controller and turn off Bluetooth on devices that may reconnect to it automatically.
- Forget the controller in Android Bluetooth settings, put it back into pairing mode and pair it again.
- Reduce distance and interference, especially when the phone is also using crowded 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
- Use USB-C temporarily to determine whether the problem is wireless pairing or the streaming app.
Controls feel delayed
Streaming adds network and video-encoding delay that is separate from the controller’s input path. Move closer to a 5 GHz router, pause other high-bandwidth traffic and use the recommended 20 Mbps or faster connection for Xbox cloud play. If your service offers a network-quality indicator, watch it while the delay occurs. Remote play may improve when the console is wired to the router; PC streaming may improve when the phone and PC share a strong local network.
Video stutters while controls remain responsive
This usually points to the network or the streaming host rather than the gamepad. Check Wi-Fi signal, mobile-data congestion and service status. Lowering stream quality, when the app offers that control, can stabilize playback at the cost of image detail. Do not treat a different controller as a remedy for dropped video frames.
The game shows the wrong button prompts
Some PC games display keyboard prompts or a different controller layout when they receive mixed input. Disconnect other input devices, select an XInput or console-style layout in the streaming client, and relaunch the game. Far Cry’s officially listed PC controller conventions can help you choose a standard XInput-style pad, but the exact prompts still depend on the game version and streaming route.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhich controller should you buy?
- Choose Backbone One (2nd generation) USB-C if you want the simplest phone-first setup, a wired connection, pass-through charging and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
- Choose Razer Kishi V2 if you want a similarly compact grip, tactile controls and pass-through charging, and you do not need a headphone jack or large handles.
- Choose Backbone Pro Xbox Edition if one controller must cover Android 10.0-or-later devices, tablets, PCs and smart TVs, and you value full-size sticks, rear buttons and long stated battery life.
- Choose Xbox Wireless Controller if you already own one, prefer a conventional full-size pad or will play on a TV. Budget for a phone clip or stand.
Before paying, verify three things in this order: the exact Far Cry title is available through your selected service in your region, your phone meets that service’s Android requirement, and the controller physically fits the phone or can pair with it. Those checks prevent a purchase that is technically compatible but unusable for your intended stream.
