What settings should I change on my Galaxy Z Fold to get better battery life? Start with Power saving when you need extra runtime, then check which apps are using battery in the background. For everyday gains, lower the display brightness to a comfortable level and shorten the screen timeout. Other options—such as Standard refresh rate and the Light performance profile—are available only on some models or software versions. Samsung does not promise a fixed amount of extra runtime: battery use varies with settings, environment and how you use the phone.
1. Use Power saving when you need to stretch the battery
On many recent Galaxy builds, open Settings > Battery or Settings > Device care > Battery, then turn on Power saving. Review the options shown on your phone before enabling them. Samsung says Power saving can limit background network use and syncing; depending on the model and software, its options may also include turning off Always On Display, limiting CPU speed, lowering brightness, restricting apps or Home screen functions, and turning off 5G on supported configurations. The available controls vary by model, software and region (Samsung US Device Care guidance; Samsung Australia Power saving guidance).

These limits involve trade-offs. Background restrictions can delay syncing or notifications, while performance limits can make the phone feel less responsive. Turn on only the options whose effects you can accept, and use Settings search if the menu names differ on your Fold.
2. Find apps that are draining battery in the background
Open Settings > Battery > Battery usage or look for Background usage limits. Menu placement varies. Review the usage list to identify apps that consume battery when you are not actively using them; then restrict only the ones that do not need to stay active.

Choose the right app limit
- Sleeping apps: Use this list for apps that need less background activity but do not have to be fully dormant.
- Deep sleeping apps: Samsung says these apps do not run in the background. Add only apps you are comfortable opening to refresh or receive updates; background activity and timely notifications may not work as expected.
- Never auto sleeping apps: If this option appears, use it for services that need reliable background operation, such as essential messaging, security or navigation apps.
Samsung recommends checking Battery usage and background limits and sleeping rarely used apps as part of troubleshooting battery drain (Samsung US battery-drain troubleshooting). If an app needs to deliver alerts or perform work while you are away from the phone, test its behavior before placing it in Deep sleeping.
3. Reduce display use without making the Fold uncomfortable
The screen is a practical place to save power during ordinary use. In Settings > Display, lower brightness to the lowest level you can comfortably read at and choose a shorter Screen timeout so the display turns off sooner when idle. Samsung identifies brightness and screen timeout among the factors that affect battery use (Samsung UK battery optimization guidance).

Choose a refresh rate that suits your use
On supported builds, open Settings > Display > Motion smoothness. Standard uses a 60 Hz refresh rate; Adaptive can vary up to 120 Hz, while a High option locks 120 Hz on selected devices. Choosing Standard gives up some scrolling smoothness in exchange for a lower refresh-rate setting. Adaptive or High may feel smoother, so choose based on your preference and the options available on your particular Fold. Samsung’s display guidance notes that these choices depend on the device (Samsung Canada refresh-rate guidance).
Do not look for a resolution change unless your own device exposes one; display controls differ across Z Fold generations and software versions.

If your phone offers it, open Settings > Device care > Performance profile > Light. Samsung describes Light as prioritizing battery life over processing speed. It can suit everyday tasks when you do not need the phone to prioritize responsiveness, but it is not a guaranteed runtime multiplier. Samsung’s cited US Device Care guidance says this setting does not affect game performance; availability and menu labels can vary by device and software (Samsung US Device Care guidance).
5. Why a Galaxy Z Fold battery may drain quickly
There is no single setting that explains every case. Samsung lists brightness, long screen timeouts, demanding apps, high-resolution streaming and location services among the factors that can increase battery consumption. Usage pattern and operating conditions also affect the phone’s estimates and actual battery life (Samsung UK battery optimization guidance; Samsung Singapore battery guidance). A particular app’s place in Battery usage can help narrow down what to investigate, but it does not establish that every user will benefit from the same set of restrictions.
6. Check whether a change helped
- Make one or two adjustments, such as shortening screen timeout or moving a rarely used app to Sleeping.
- Use the Fold normally for a day, rather than changing every setting at once.
- Return to Settings > Battery > Battery usage and see whether the same app or screen behavior still accounts for notable use.
- Keep changes that help without disrupting notifications, responsiveness or viewing comfort; undo restrictions that interfere with something you rely on.
This gives you a practical way to identify which settings matter for your own use. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 manual, for example, documents Power saving and Background usage limits in its Battery menu and cautions that estimates depend on settings and operating conditions; that manual is specific to that model and software version, not a universal menu map for every Z Fold (Galaxy Z Fold 6 manual).
