Apple’s AirPort Utility is the best-supported free choice for a basic scan of nearby Wi-Fi networks on iPhone. Enable its Wi-Fi Scanner setting, then use Wi-Fi Scan to view nearby networks’ signal readings (RSSI) and channels. It helps you check how Wi-Fi reception changes around your home; it is not an internet speed test or a full spectrum survey.
Which free Wi-Fi analyzer should you use on iPhone?
For seeing nearby Wi-Fi networks and their signal readings, start with AirPort Utility. Apple documents the app for iPhone, and a practical setup guide describes its scanner and the RSSI and channel information it displays. The steps and interface may differ across iOS versions, so menu labels can vary.

If you instead want to find devices connected to your local network, test reachability, or look up DNS, Network Analyzer is a different kind of utility. Its U.S. App Store listing advertises device discovery, ping, traceroute, port scanning, DNS lookup, and network information. The listing describes a free app with a Pro upgrade; check its current listing for which tools are included in each tier. These advertised LAN diagnostics should not be mistaken for a verified scan of nearby access points.

How to scan nearby Wi-Fi networks with AirPort Utility

Install AirPort Utility from the App Store. Apple’s availability and feature guide documents the app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Look for your network in the results. Repeat the scan in the rooms or spots where Wi-Fi seems weak so you can compare the readings by location.

The scanner workflow and its reported readings are described in the National Capital FreeNet iOS WiFi Analyzer guide. If the current app or iOS interface does not show those controls, check the app’s current instructions and compatibility rather than assuming the menu path is identical on every release.

What RSSI and channel readings tell you
RSSI is a signal reading, not a speed result
RSSI indicates received signal strength at the phone’s location. Comparing the same network from one room to another can help identify places where reception is weaker. It does not measure broadband throughput, prove why a connection is slow, or guarantee that changing router settings will improve it.
A channel value is not a full interference survey
The scan can show channels associated with nearby networks, which gives useful context about the surrounding Wi-Fi environment. The documented feature does not establish a channel-utilization graph, identify every source of interference, or automatically determine the best router channel. Apple’s iOS Wi-Fi API overview explains the platform’s available Wi-Fi interfaces; do not assume an iPhone utility provides all the measurements available in desktop survey software.

Nearby access-point scans and LAN scans answer different questions
A nearby access-point scan reports surrounding Wi-Fi networks and, in this workflow, their RSSI and channels. A LAN scanner focuses on devices and services on the network the phone is using. Choose by the question you need answered:

The word “analyzer” in an app name is not enough to establish that it performs a nearby Wi-Fi scan. Confirm that the specific feature you need is listed and available for your iOS version.

Review permissions before granting access
On iOS 14 and later, apps that browse the local network must request permission. Apple says you can review or revoke access in Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network. Grant it only when the app’s function calls for local-network access; a nearby Wi-Fi scan and browsing devices on your LAN are distinct tasks. See Apple’s local-network privacy guidance.
Also review an app’s requested permissions and privacy information instead of assuming every network utility handles data in the same way. Apple notes that Wi-Fi information can contribute to location determination and describes the available Location Services controls in its Location Services privacy guide.
