Recommended Free Tools
OBS is the clearest free starting point if you need software to send a live stream to YouTube: YouTube describes Open Broadcaster Software as open-source recording and live-streaming software available at no charge. But that does not establish that OBS can reliably loop recorded lessons unattended around the clock. If continuous cloud playback matters more than keeping the setup free, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only option that loops uploaded videos from the cloud.
Which software should you choose?
The right choice depends on whether “free” or unattended 24/7 playback is the hard requirement. YouTube’s official encoder information supports OBS as a free encoder, but the available descriptions do not confirm a turnkey OBS setup for looping recorded lessons or uninterrupted operation. Treat continuous playback and recovery as requirements to verify in a test, not as established features of every app.
| Option | What is established | What to check for recorded lessons |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos, with 24/7 looping and playlists. | It is a paid service after its one free day; see the cloud option below. |
| OBS | YouTube describes it as open-source recording and live-streaming software available at no charge. | Confirm that your chosen scene and media setup can replay your lesson playlist unattended, and test how it behaves after interruptions. |
| PRISM Live Studio | YouTube lists it as no-charge Windows streaming software. | The cited description does not establish lesson looping or 24/7 operation. |
| Streamlabs | YouTube lists it as no-charge streaming software. | The cited description does not establish unattended prerecorded looping. |
| Gamecaster and XSplit Broadcaster | YouTube lists a no-charge version of each. | The cited descriptions do not establish that either is purpose-built for continuous prerecorded lessons. |
| Gyre and Upstream | YouTube identifies them as cloud tools for 24/7 streaming. | The cited information does not establish their prices or that they meet a free-software requirement. |
For a free encoder you can configure and test yourself, start with OBS. If the requirement is specifically “keep lessons playing when I am not at my computer,” do not assume the free-software listings answer that question: verify looping and recovery in your own setup before relying on it.
What you need before starting a YouTube encoder stream
- Your channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days.
- Live streaming must be enabled. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until the planned broadcast time.
- You need the YouTube Live server URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room. The key authorizes an encoder to connect, so keep it private.
- Your recorded lessons and any music, images, clips, or other embedded media must be cleared for broadcast. Live streams remain subject to YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
Set up and test OBS with YouTube
- Enable live streaming on the channel. Verify the channel and check that it is eligible before building the broadcast. If this is the first time enabling live streaming, allow up to 24 hours for access to become available.
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Copy the stream’s server URL and stream key. Use the connection details for the stream you intend to run, and do not share the key publicly.
- Connect OBS as the encoder. Enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in the encoder’s streaming connection settings. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses these details to receive the live feed. Exact OBS labels can vary by version, so follow the labels shown in the installed version rather than relying on a guessed menu path.
- Configure the lesson playback you intend to test. Add the lesson content to your OBS scene or media workflow. The official information cited here does not specify an OBS playlist-loop procedure or establish unattended playback, so check the installed version’s behavior rather than assuming a particular control or setting is available.
- Run a short private or unlisted test. Start a test stream, then inspect playback on YouTube for picture, sound, and the intended lesson content. YouTube recommends testing a live stream to get comfortable with the process. Do not treat one successful short test as proof of 24/7 reliability.
- Plan for a local copy. Keep a local recording or other archive if you need a dependable copy of the broadcast. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all; an uninterrupted all-day stream should not be treated as a guaranteed complete YouTube archive.
Can OBS stream prerecorded lessons on a loop?
OBS is a free encoder option, but the official descriptions cited here do not verify a specific OBS workflow for unattended prerecorded lesson looping. They also do not establish automatic restart or recovery after a computer, software, or network interruption. The practical answer is to test the exact playlist and scene configuration you plan to use, including whether playback continues from one lesson to the next and what happens when a source ends or the connection drops.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If the broadcast must run while you are away, consider what must remain available locally: the computer running the encoder, the lesson files, and the network connection. A power, software, or connection interruption can stop a local-encoder workflow; test recovery rather than assuming it will resume on its own.
Will YouTube save a 24/7 live stream?
Not necessarily. YouTube’s guidance says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. For a broadcast meant to stay live continuously, keep your own local recording or archive if you need a copy of every lesson or the full stream. Do not promise viewers that YouTube will preserve an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast as one complete replay.

Common problems to check
- The encoder cannot connect: confirm that live streaming is enabled, that the channel is eligible, and that the server URL and stream key match the stream in YouTube Live Control Room. If the channel is newly enabled, activation can take up to 24 hours.
- The stream stops when you step away: a local encoder depends on the computer and network connection remaining available. Test the setup unattended before depending on it, or choose a cloud workflow.
- The lesson playlist does not continue as expected: the official descriptions do not establish a reliable OBS loop configuration. Test transitions and end-of-file behavior with the exact media setup you will use.
- The archive is incomplete or missing: a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube. Keep a local copy when an archive matters.
- The broadcast is blocked or restricted: check channel live-stream eligibility and make sure all content in the stream complies with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, including rights to recorded lessons and embedded media.
