A specific Pixabay result titled “Rain, Living Room, Fireplace” was listed as an MP4 at 1920×1080 and 29 FPS, published May 8, 2023. Its page labeled it free under the Pixabay Content License. Availability and terms can change, so verify the current item page before relying on it.

Check the exact clip before you use it
- Open the item page, not just the library’s general license. Confirm the clip’s current license label, especially on Mixkit, where Free and Restricted licenses differ.
- Match the terms to your use. Confirm that commercial use, editing, public performance, and broadcast are allowed if relevant. Do not assume permission to download means permission to redistribute the file as a stock asset.
- Inspect the image itself. Look for visible brand marks, artwork, identifiable people, or other material that could involve rights beyond the footage license.
- Keep a dated record. Save the asset page, license terms, creator or item details, and download date. Retain any permission correspondence and the final file’s source information.
- Resolve live-stream claims before scheduling. If the creator or rights holder offers channel allowlisting, ask about it before going live and keep the response with your records.
Why free, licensed footage can still interrupt a live stream
YouTube Help says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including another live broadcast. If YouTube detects a match, it may replace the stream image with a placeholder, warn the streamer, and interrupt or terminate the stream if the material remains. A license does not guarantee that an automated match will be avoided; YouTube recommends asking the rights holder to allowlist your channel when you have permission. An archived stream can also receive a Content ID claim after the broadcast.

Pixabay’s FAQ discusses possible automated claims in connection with music registered by contributors or distributors; that music-specific warning should not be read as evidence that every stock video will trigger a claim. YouTube’s separate live-stream scanning policy is the relevant general risk for a video loop.

Permission does not guarantee monetization
Copyright permission and YouTube Partner Program eligibility are separate questions. YouTube’s monetization policy applies to live streams and expects original, authentic content. Its July 15, 2025 policy note renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced material is covered; the policy says “video” includes live streaming. A simple rain or fireplace loop may be licensed yet still fail a channel-level monetization review. Add meaningful original production or viewer value, and assess the channel as a whole rather than assuming the footage license settles monetization.
Confirm your channel can go live
YouTube’s basic live-stream requirements say a channel must be verified, have no live-stream restriction in the prior 90 days, and belong to a user aged at least 16. Check the current YouTube live-stream setup requirements before preparing a scheduled broadcast; platform rules can change.
