Which game should you pick?
Sven Co-op: best for classic team missions
Sven Co-op is a cooperative game based around Valve’s Half-Life. Players team up against computer-controlled enemies and solve puzzles, making it a natural choice when your group wants discrete objectives and retro first-person-shooter action instead of an open-ended world. The Steam listing offers it free to play and lists both online and LAN co-op.

Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop: best for tactical squads
Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop is a free top-down shooter built around squad tactics. Its Steam description specifies co-op for up to eight players, so it is the clearest fit in this shortlist if your group is larger than a typical small party. The listing includes online and LAN co-op. It also lists PvP modes, but its cooperative campaigns are the reason to choose it for a co-op session.
The Reactive Drop Team’s official Steam description calls it a “Co-operative top-down shooter game available for free” featuring “a unique blend of co-op play and squad-level tactics.” That is the developer’s description, not an independent review.

- Check how many friends can join: Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop explicitly describes co-op for up to eight players. The cited Steam listings do not establish a maximum for Sven Co-op or Unturned, so check their current pages rather than assuming a number.
- Confirm the connection mode you need: All three cited listings include online and LAN co-op. Check the current product page if your setup depends on a particular mode.
- Read the cost details: Each game is listed as free or free to play. Unturned’s listing also shows in-app purchases, so free access to the base game does not mean every optional item is included at no cost.
- Check content and availability: Sven Co-op’s store page notes frequent violence or gore. Review each game’s current Steam page for regional availability, supported systems, and any changes to its listed features.
