There is no definitive Forza Horizon 6 graphics preset for PS5 yet because the console version has not launched. Forza has confirmed one important option: a 60FPS Performance mode. The standard PS5 release is scheduled for January 26, 2027, with Premium Edition early access starting January 21, 2027. Until the game ships, treat resolution, ray tracing, HDR behavior, VRR support and PS5 Pro differences as unconfirmed. The safest plan for a racing-focused setup is to start with Performance mode, then verify the released build’s actual output and display options.

What is confirmed about FH6 on PS5

Forza’s 2026 announcement says, “A 60FPS Performance mode will also be available.” That is the only PS5 graphics mode currently confirmed in official material. It establishes a frame-rate-focused option, but it does not establish the mode’s resolution, whether resolution is dynamic, which visual features are reduced, or whether another selectable mode will ship.

Item Confirmed information
Performance mode Forza has announced a 60FPS Performance mode for PS5.
Standard PS5 launch January 26, 2027.
Premium Edition early access Begins January 21, 2027.
Cross-platform play PS5 will support play with Xbox and Steam.
Cross-save PS5 will support cross-save with Xbox and Steam.
Resolution, ray tracing and graphics presets Not stated in the available official PS5 material before launch.
HDR, VRR and PS5 Pro behavior Not stated in the available official PS5 material before launch.

Because the game is unreleased, no independent PS5 benchmark can establish frame-time stability, output resolution, input latency or image-quality differences between modes. Any guide claiming exact PS5 resolution or confirmed ray-tracing support before launch is making an assumption rather than reporting a tested setting.

The best provisional setting: start with Performance mode

Forza Horizon is a fast racing game, so consistent frame delivery usually matters more than maximum detail when you are choosing a first setting. A 60-frame-per-second target can make steering, camera movement and correction inputs feel more immediate than a lower frame-rate presentation. That is why the provisional recommendation is simple: select Performance mode first when the PS5 build becomes available, drive several events, and only move to a visual-quality option if you clearly prefer its image quality.

This is a recommendation for how to begin, not proof that Performance mode will hold 60fps in every situation. The announcement confirms the mode’s target, while sustained frame-time behavior, resolution scaling and feature reductions still require the shipping build to be measured.

Choose Performance first if you value

  • Responsive steering and quick corrections during close racing.
  • Stable motion while panning across scenery or approaching traffic.
  • Lower perceived control delay on a 60Hz or faster display.
  • A consistent feel across races rather than the highest possible visual detail.

Consider a quality-focused option only after testing

If the released game offers a Quality mode or another visual preset, compare it on the same display and in the same type of race. Look for differences in foliage, reflections, shadows, geometry and image sharpness, but also check whether the frame rate feels less consistent. Do not assume that a menu label such as “Quality” automatically means a fixed 30fps or that “Performance” automatically means a fixed 60fps; read the final in-game description and observe actual play.

Day-one PS5 setup procedure

Use this sequence when FH6 is installed. It separates console output settings from game settings, so a display feature is not mistaken for a game feature.

  1. Update the PS5 system software. Install any pending system update before launching the game. A console update can affect HDMI output, HDR handling or VRR behavior.
  2. Confirm the HDMI path. Connect the PS5 directly to the television or monitor for the first test. If you use an AV receiver, soundbar or HDMI switch, bypass it temporarily if you experience missing HDR, VRR or high-refresh output.
  3. Open Settings > Screen and Video. Check Resolution, 120 Hz Output, VRR and HDR. Leave resolution on Automatic unless your display requires a specific format. Enable 120 Hz Output if the display supports it; this does not prove FH6 will render at 120fps.
  4. Set HDR to the console’s normal supported option. If you enable HDR Always On, compare it with On When Supported. The latter lets compatible games choose HDR while avoiding forced conversion of SDR content.
  5. Launch FH6 and open its display or graphics menu. Select the announced 60FPS Performance mode if it is available. Record every option shown, including any Quality, Resolution, Ray Tracing, HDR or VRR toggles.
  6. Calibrate HDR in the game, if a calibration screen exists. Use the game’s instructions and your display’s normal picture mode. Do not raise brightness simply to make every shadow visible; that can flatten contrast and wash out the image.
  7. Test a representative race. Drive in bright daylight, at night and in wet weather if those scenarios are available. Check camera pans, dense scenery, reflections and traffic for judder, tearing or brightness shifts.
  8. Save the setting and retest after a full restart. Some games apply display changes only after returning to the title screen or restarting. Verify the mode remains selected after closing and reopening the game.

How to evaluate Performance versus any Quality mode

Use the same route and camera when comparing modes. Changing several variables at once makes a small visual difference difficult to judge.

Comparison check What to look for
Motion Does steering, camera panning and passing traffic remain smooth through corners?
Frame-time consistency Are there brief hitches when entering a new area, starting a race or encountering weather?
Image detail Do distant signs, track edges, foliage and car surfaces look materially sharper in the visual mode?
Reflections and lighting Are reflections, shadows or lighting effects visibly different, and are those changes worth reduced smoothness?
Input response Does the controller feel easier to place precisely when braking, turning or correcting a slide?

The final choice is personal, but use a complete race rather than a paused menu scene. A mode that looks impressive in a still image may feel less suitable once the camera, track and weather are moving continuously.

HDR settings: what you can prepare now

HDR details for the PS5 version have not been published, so there is no verified FH6 paper-white value, peak-brightness target or tone-mapping recommendation yet. You can still prepare a reliable baseline:

  • Use the television’s game picture preset, not a cinema or vivid preset with heavy processing.
  • Disable dynamic contrast, artificial sharpness and automatic brightness features while calibrating. These can change the image between scenes.
  • Run the PS5 HDR calibration from Settings > Screen and Video > HDR > Adjust HDR after the display has warmed up and is in its normal gaming mode.
  • If FH6 provides its own HDR sliders, follow its visible-symbol instructions and make small changes. The correct setting depends on the display’s real luminance and tone mapping.
  • Check a dark race and a bright sky after calibration. Crushed black detail and clipped clouds are signs that the tone mapping needs adjustment.

Do not infer HDR quality from the presence of an HDR toggle alone. The shipping implementation, metadata and tone mapping determine whether the result is accurate on your screen.

VRR and 120Hz: useful, but not confirmed for FH6

A 60FPS mode makes a 120Hz display and variable refresh rate potentially useful, but Forza has not yet confirmed FH6’s PS5 VRR range, 120Hz output behavior or whether either feature will be exposed in the game menu. Keep the console options ready, then verify the result in the released build.

If your display supports VRR

  1. Enable VRR in Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output.
  2. Leave “Apply to Unsupported Games” disabled for your first test. This prevents the console from applying VRR to a game that has not been validated for it.
  3. Launch FH6 in Performance mode and watch for tearing, brightness pulsing or an unstable image. If any appears, turn VRR off for comparison.
  4. Check the television’s information panel, if available, to see whether refresh rate changes during play. A panel indicator is evidence of changing output, not proof of a particular FH6 frame rate.

If your display supports 120Hz but not VRR

Enable 120 Hz Output on the PS5 and compare the game’s motion with it enabled and disabled. The console setting only permits high-refresh output; it cannot force FH6 to render above its supported mode. Use whichever configuration produces the cleaner, more stable image.

Ray tracing and PS5 Pro expectations

There is no confirmed PS5 ray-tracing setting, reflection mode or global-illumination option for FH6 in the available pre-release material. The same applies to differences between the standard PS5 and PS5 Pro. Do not buy or configure a display on the assumption that PS5 Pro will receive a specific ray-traced preset, higher resolution or enhanced performance mode.

When the game launches, check the official menu labels and platform notes for separate PS5 Pro options. A valid comparison should record the selected mode, output resolution, whether dynamic scaling is used, ray-traced effects, HDR behavior, VRR range and frame-time stability. Until those details are documented or measured from the retail build, “PS5 Pro enhanced” is not a sufficiently precise setting description.

Cross-play and cross-save settings

PS5 support for cross-platform play and cross-save with Xbox and Steam is confirmed. If you use more than one platform, sign in to the account associated with your Forza progression and verify that the correct profile is linked before beginning a long career session.

Cross-save does not make graphics settings portable. Display mode, HDR calibration, VRR and television-specific adjustments belong to each console and display, so repeat the visual setup on PS5 even if your progress appears correctly.

Practical provisional presets

These are starting points for the unreleased PS5 build, not claims about hidden FH6 options.

Preset A: racing responsiveness

  • FH6 mode: Performance mode, if shown.
  • PS5 resolution: Automatic.
  • PS5 120 Hz Output: Enabled when the display supports it.
  • PS5 VRR: Enabled only after checking for a stable, artifact-free image.
  • HDR: On When Supported, followed by PS5 and in-game calibration.
  • Use this when steering feel and consistent motion matter more than maximum detail.

Preset B: standard 60Hz television

  • FH6 mode: Start with Performance mode.
  • PS5 120 Hz Output: Automatic or disabled if the display does not support 120Hz.
  • PS5 VRR: Disabled unless the television supports it.
  • HDR: On When Supported if the television has a competent HDR game mode; otherwise compare HDR and SDR rather than assuming HDR is superior.
  • Use the same race route to decide whether a quality-focused option offers a worthwhile visual improvement.

Preset C: troubleshooting-first

  • Connect the PS5 directly to the display.
  • Use Automatic resolution and disable VRR temporarily.
  • Set 120 Hz Output to Automatic.
  • Launch Performance mode and confirm whether the problem remains.
  • Re-enable one feature at a time so you can identify the source of flicker, black screens, audio dropouts or brightness changes.

Common problems and fixes

The game does not show a Performance option

Confirm that the game is fully updated and that you are looking in the in-game display or graphics menu rather than the PS5 system menu. The announcement confirms the mode exists, but menu names and placement can change before release. If the option is still absent in the shipping build, check the developer’s current support notes rather than selecting an unrelated console-wide setting.

The screen goes black when HDR or 120Hz is enabled

Reconnect the HDMI cable, bypass intermediate equipment and test another HDMI input on the display. Set the PS5 to Automatic resolution, then disable 120 Hz Output temporarily. If the picture returns, re-enable features one at a time. A black screen indicates an output-chain compatibility problem; it does not establish that FH6 lacks HDR or high-refresh support.

VRR causes flicker or brightness changes

Disable VRR and compare the same scene. If the artifact disappears, leave VRR off until a later game or television firmware update addresses it. Also check whether the display’s VRR range is being exceeded; the exact FH6 frame-rate behavior is not yet documented.

The image looks washed out in HDR

Use the display’s game HDR preset, turn off dynamic contrast, and rerun the PS5 HDR calibration. Compare “On When Supported” with “Always On.” If only FH6 looks incorrect while other HDR games look normal, reset the game’s HDR sliders and wait for an FH6-specific patch or support guidance.

Motion feels uneven despite Performance mode

Test with VRR disabled, close other applications, restart the game and repeat the same race. Record whether the issue occurs only during loading, in a particular weather condition or throughout play. The 60FPS announcement is a target for the mode, not a published guarantee of frame-time behavior in every scene.

What to verify before calling a setting “best”

A trustworthy post-launch recommendation should state more than “use Performance.” Check the following in the retail PS5 build:

  • Actual target frame rate and frame-time stability during races, menus and heavy scenery.
  • Output resolution and whether dynamic resolution scaling is used.
  • Which reflections, shadows, lighting and other effects change between modes.
  • HDR calibration instructions, peak-brightness behavior and tone mapping.
  • VRR support, operating range and whether 120Hz output changes the available modes.
  • Differences between standard PS5 and PS5 Pro, if an enhanced profile is offered.
  • Input latency and controller response in Performance and visual-quality modes.

Until those checks can be made, the most accurate advice is deliberately limited: use the confirmed 60FPS Performance mode as your starting point, keep other display features at sensible console defaults, and verify every advanced option in the released game rather than relying on pre-release speculation.
