If you missed Jimothy, Fortnite has other Sidekicks to consider: the dog companions Bonesy and Spike, dinosaur Lil’ Raptor, and banana-themed Peels. But Epic’s official material reviewed for this article does not establish how to unlock Jimothy or whether his unlock is still available. Treat any specific Jimothy method or deadline—including claims involving a Dumpster Dive Sprite—as unverified unless Fortnite or Epic confirms it.
Which Fortnite Sidekick should you choose?
Sidekicks are customizable companions, not gameplay upgrades. Epic says they join players in several Fortnite experiences and react to the world. Spending time together earns Sidekick Points that can unlock cosmetic accessories, such as hats and hoodies. The alternatives differ mainly in their character and creature style:

Epic’s creator documentation also names companions including Doggo Jr., Cuddle Team Jr., Mothman Jr., and Teacup Chi-Pup. That broader roster can help you compare styles, but a creator roster is not a live store listing and does not prove that any particular Sidekick can be obtained today.

Check appearance lock-in before choosing
Epic Support says you can customize a Sidekick’s appearance one time after obtaining it. Once you lock in its physical traits, those choices are permanent. If you own multiple copies, each must have a unique appearance. Names and accessories are different: Epic says you can change them at any time.

That makes the choice more consequential than picking a hat or name. Decide which Sidekick’s permanent look you want before confirming its appearance; accessories can be adjusted later.
How to check whether a Sidekick is available
Acquisition routes have included a Battle Pass, the Item Shop, an ownership grant, and game-store promotions. These are different historical routes, not a promise that every Sidekick is currently obtainable. The Bonesy Back Bling grant, for example, was tied to owning that cosmetic in November 2025.

- Open Fortnite and check the current Item Shop for the Sidekick you want. A historical price or appearance in an earlier Shop rotation does not establish that it is available now.
- If you are looking for Jimothy, check his in-game quest or event information for the stated requirements and any deadline. Do not rely on a claimed Sprite interaction unless Epic or the game itself confirms it.
- For a promotion or ownership grant, verify the eligibility terms in the relevant Epic announcement or in-game notice; an old grant does not create a new entitlement.
Epic’s October 2026 Fortnitemares update describes the Dumpster Dive Sprite as a gameplay Sprite that finds restorative food in a hiding spot. It does not connect the Sprite to Jimothy, so it is not evidence of a Jimothy unlock method.

Epic lists Sidekicks as supported in Battle Royale, Save the World, LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, Fortnite Festival, and developer-made experiences. In creator-made islands, support depends on the island’s settings: Epic Support states, “Sidekicks can only tag along with you if the Island Developer has enabled Sidekicks in their island.” If a companion does not appear in an island, that may be a compatibility setting rather than a problem with your Locker.

Epic’s June 5, 2026 UEFN announcement also describes Sidekicks being used as NPCs through the NPC Spawner in creator-made islands. That is a creator feature, not a way for players to unlock a Sidekick; Epic says licensed Sidekicks cannot be used as NPCs.
