Best Force-Feedback and Control-Sensitivity Settings for the MOZA MFY Yoke

The best starting point for the MOZA MFY is a calibrated yoke in Direct Output mode, moderate simulator and MOZA Cockpit force-feedback intensity, and low-to-moderate added resistance. Use Spring Strength for centering, Damper for movement resistance, Inertia for simulated mass, and Friction for constant resistance. Adjust one control at a time, set X and Y Soft Limits to match the aircraft’s virtual control throw, and save separate airliner, general-aviation and helicopter profiles. There is no MOZA-published percentage preset that is optimal for every aircraft and simulator.

What the best MFY settings are trying to achieve

A well-tuned MFY should communicate aerodynamic load, trim changes and autopilot behavior without fighting every small correction. You should be able to hold a precise attitude, feel increasing control forces in a maneuver and move the yoke smoothly through flare or rotation. If the yoke constantly oscillates, feels locked in place or requires excessive effort for normal corrections, the force-feedback gain or added resistance is too high for that aircraft and phase of flight.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

MOZA’s official Flight FAQ defines what each force control does, but it does not publish one universal numeric recipe. The useful approach is therefore a repeatable setup process rather than copying a percentage from another aircraft. Simulator force-feedback implementation, aircraft flight model, firmware, output mode and personal preference all affect the result.

Prepare the hardware before changing feel

Confirm the required base

The MFY handle is an accessory for the MOZA AY210 and AY90 bases; it cannot operate independently. Connect the handle to a compatible base and secure the base firmly before applying force feedback. MOZA Support (2026) lists the AY210 at up to 9 N·m sustained roll torque and 210 N of pitch force. Those are base specifications, not a recommendation to run every simulator at maximum intensity.

Update Cockpit and firmware

  1. Install the current MOZA Cockpit software available for your system.
  2. Connect the base and MFY handle, then apply any offered device or base firmware updates.
  3. Restart Cockpit after an update if the device page does not immediately show the new firmware state.

Updating first prevents you from tuning around a firmware behavior that may change after installation. Keep the simulator closed while updating unless MOZA Cockpit explicitly allows it.

Run Auto Calibrate

  1. Open the MFY device page in MOZA Cockpit.
  2. Select the base icon to open the calibration controls.
  3. Choose Auto Calibrate and allow the yoke to complete its range without touching it.
  4. After calibration, verify that roll and pitch return to center and that the on-screen axes move smoothly through their travel.

Recalibrate after changing the mounting position, reconnecting the handle, installing firmware or discovering an offset at center. A wrong center can look like excessive sensitivity or a persistent pull, and no force setting can correct a bad calibration.

Choose an output mode

Direct Output: the normal starting point

MOZA describes Direct Output as passing raw force-feedback signals from the game directly to the base and recommends it for most users. Start here when the simulator has modern telemetry force feedback and you want its aerodynamic and trim signals reproduced with minimal additional processing.

Enhanced Output: processing and smoothing

Enhanced Output adds MOZA processing and smoothing. It can be useful with older simulators or when you deliberately want additional shaping of the feel. Smoothing can make a noisy signal more comfortable, but it can also soften quick changes such as a trim step or a sudden load increase. Change to Enhanced only after you have established a stable Direct Output baseline, and then retune the resistance controls rather than assuming the same values will feel identical.

Understand the four resistance controls

These controls are additive feel-shaping tools. Start with all of them low to moderate, then introduce one change at a time so you can identify what made the yoke heavier or slower.

Control What it changes Increase it when Reduce it when
Spring Strength Centering force; higher values return the yoke toward center more strongly. You need clearer neutral centering or the yoke wanders when no sustained control force is expected. The yoke fights trimmed flight, masks light aerodynamic loads or makes helicopter and flare corrections feel artificial.
Damper Resistance to movement, making rapid or abrupt motion more difficult. Small oscillations or over-correction remain after force intensity is reduced. Pitch and roll feel sluggish, control reversals lag, or you must use excessive effort for quick corrections.
Inertia Simulated mass. It makes the yoke feel as though a heavier mechanism must be accelerated and stopped. You want a heavier, more momentum-driven control feel and the aircraft remains responsive enough. The yoke continues moving after you release it, feels delayed in turbulence or becomes tiring during frequent corrections.
Friction Constant resistance throughout the range of motion, independent of movement speed. You want to remove a loose or weightless feel across the entire travel. The center and the ends both feel sticky, fine trim inputs become difficult or the yoke never feels free to move.

Spring is the only one of these four controls that specifically creates a centering force. Damper, Inertia and Friction do not replace correct centering; they add resistance that can obscure the aircraft’s own force-feedback signal if set too high.

Build a reliable baseline step by step

  1. Start in Direct Output. Select it in the MFY force-feedback page unless you have a specific reason to process or smooth an older simulator’s signal.
  2. Set overall intensity moderately. Adjust force-feedback intensity in the simulator, where that option exists, and in MOZA Cockpit. Begin low enough that the yoke never shakes continuously at rest. Increase only until aerodynamic loading and trim changes are easy to read.
  3. Leave added resistance conservative. Set Spring Strength to a light or moderate centering feel. Keep Damper, Inertia and Friction low initially. This preserves the simulator’s native signal while you establish a reference.
  4. Check the center. With the aircraft parked or stabilized, release the yoke. It should return predictably without repeated oscillation. If it does not, recalibrate before changing gain.
  5. Configure X and Y Soft Limits. Match the electronic force-feedback range to the aircraft’s virtual roll and pitch control throw when the full physical range does not correspond to the cockpit’s expected movement.
  6. Test one aircraft in several phases. Use trimmed cruise, a coordinated turn, a trim change, autopilot engagement and disengagement, flare and landing, and one higher-load maneuver. Do not judge a profile only while parked in the menu.
  7. Change one variable per pass. If the yoke is heavy, lower Spring first, then Damper, Inertia or Friction individually. If it is too loose, add only the control that addresses the symptom.
  8. Save the profile with the aircraft class and output mode in its name. For example, distinguish an airliner Direct profile from a helicopter Enhanced profile so a later experiment does not overwrite the known-good setup.

Use Soft Limits to match control sensitivity

The MFY provides a 180-degree full rotation. Soft Limits electronically reduce the force-feedback range while leaving the physical travel available. This lets the hardware’s full movement correspond to a smaller virtual cockpit movement, which is useful when the aircraft’s modeled yoke or stick has a different throw from the hardware.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When to use them

  • Use them when the aircraft reaches its effective control travel long before the MFY reaches a comfortable physical position.
  • Use separate X and Y limits when roll and pitch have noticeably different virtual throws.
  • Leave the limits broad while establishing force intensity, then tune them after the center and resistance feel are stable.

How to tune sensitivity without guessing

  1. Choose a calm test condition, such as straight-and-level flight with the autopilot off.
  2. Make a small, repeatable roll or pitch input and observe the aircraft response rather than judging the hardware angle alone.
  3. Adjust the relevant X or Y Soft Limit in a small step, repeat the same input and note whether the aircraft now reaches the desired response earlier or later in the physical travel.
  4. Repeat in a coordinated turn and during flare. A limit that feels precise in cruise can be too abrupt near the ground.

Soft Limits alter the force-feedback range, not the physical stops of the handle. They should be used to align hardware travel with the aircraft’s virtual control geometry, not as a substitute for calibration or a cure for a simulator axis mapped to the wrong device.

Starting profiles by aircraft class

The following are qualitative starting profiles, not official percentage presets. Keep the overall force intensity moderate and adjust for the aircraft’s own telemetry.

Aircraft class Spring Strength Damper Inertia Friction Soft-limit approach
Airliner Moderate centering to support trimmed cruise Low to moderate for smooth, deliberate movement Low initially; add only if the yoke feels unnaturally light Low, preserving small trim inputs Match pitch and roll limits to the modeled control response; test during rotation and flare
General aviation Light to moderate, retaining the aircraft’s changing aerodynamic feel Low so quick corrections remain available Low to moderate if you want more mechanical mass Low unless the center feels loose Use the aircraft’s normal yoke travel as the reference during coordinated turns
Helicopter Light; avoid imposing a strong artificial return-to-center feel Low to moderate, depending on whether small oscillations appear Low until hover and pedal-free corrections feel immediate Low to avoid masking fine hover inputs Set limits cautiously and validate in hover, transition and landing

These profiles are intentionally relative. A heavily loaded airliner, a light trainer and a helicopter with different trim systems can all require different values within the same class.

Test the settings where they matter

Trim and autopilot

In cruise, establish a trimmed attitude and then make a small trim change. The yoke should communicate the changing load without snapping violently toward a new position. Engage and disengage the autopilot at a safe altitude. If the transition produces a sharp kick, reduce overall intensity or Spring Strength before adding more damping.

Coordinated turns

Use a repeatable bank angle and release pressure gradually. Excessive Spring can pull the yoke toward center faster than the aircraft naturally returns, while high Inertia can make a correction continue after you stop moving the handle. Damper is the appropriate control to investigate when the problem is oscillation during the movement itself.

Flare and landing

Landing exposes sensitivity errors because pitch corrections are small and time-critical. Confirm that the Y Soft Limit does not make the useful flare range arrive too early. If the yoke feels sticky near center, reduce Friction; if it feels heavy everywhere, lower the total force intensity before changing aircraft-specific settings.

Higher-load maneuvers

Use a maneuver that is appropriate for the aircraft and simulator, staying within the aircraft’s limitations. Increase intensity only until the load is legible. A constant maximum-force sensation is not a goal: it reduces the contrast that lets you distinguish normal trim, turbulence and a genuine high-load event.

Diagnose a yoke that feels too sensitive, too heavy or unstable

Symptom Likely causes Order of checks
Aircraft reacts sharply to tiny inputs Control geometry does not match the 180-degree hardware range, an aggressive simulator axis response, or an incorrect calibration center. Run Auto Calibrate; verify the simulator is reading the MFY axis; tune the relevant X or Y Soft Limit; then inspect the simulator’s own sensitivity or response-curve controls.
Yoke feels heavy everywhere Overall force intensity, Spring, Friction or Inertia is too high. Lower simulator and MOZA Cockpit intensity together, then reduce Spring. If resistance remains constant across travel, reduce Friction; if it feels momentum-driven, reduce Inertia.
Movement is slow but not especially centered Damper or Inertia is excessive. Reduce Damper first for speed-related resistance, then Inertia if the yoke continues to feel as though it has too much mass.
Yoke repeatedly shakes near center Force gain is too high, the aircraft signal is oscillating, or the center is miscalibrated. Stop the aircraft in a safe state, recalibrate, reduce overall intensity and Spring, and test again in Direct Output. Use Enhanced Output only if you specifically need its smoothing.
Trim changes are hard to feel Force intensity is too low, or excessive resistance is masking the simulator signal. Raise intensity gradually; if movement remains dull, lower Damper, Inertia and Friction one at a time rather than adding more Spring.
No force feedback appears The simulator may not provide supported telemetry, the wrong output mode or device may be selected, or the base is not connected correctly. Confirm the MFY is attached to an AY90 or AY210, verify the simulator’s force-feedback option and device assignment, restart the simulator after calibration, and test a title with documented native telemetry support.

Simulator support and what the base can receive

MOZA documents native telemetry force feedback for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024, X-Plane 12 and DCS World. The MFY product page also lists X-Plane 11, IL-2 and War Thunder among supported titles. Support does not guarantee identical signal quality across aircraft or versions; a simulator can expose force feedback while a particular aircraft add-on supplies a different or more limited model.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If a title is older or its signal is noisy, Enhanced Output may provide a more usable result through additional processing and smoothing. For a modern title with clear telemetry, Direct Output is the appropriate reference mode because it lets you evaluate the game’s own signal before adding shaping.

Know the MFY’s physical and configurable limits

  • MOZA Support (2026) lists up to 34 configurable signal outputs, including Hall-effect joysticks, switches, triggers, RGB lighting and profile support through MOZA Cockpit.
  • The full hardware rotation is 180 degrees, while Soft Limits can reduce the electronic force-feedback range without removing physical travel.
  • The MFY handle weighs 1.3 kg, so mounting rigidity and desk or cockpit structure affect how stable the setup feels when force is applied.
  • The AY210’s published capability is up to 9 N·m sustained roll torque and 210 N of pitch force. An AY90 has a different torque capability, so a setting that feels moderate on one base may feel stronger on another.

These specifications explain why a single percentage cannot be transferred blindly between bases. Set force by the sensation you need and by whether the aircraft’s cues remain readable, not by trying to exploit the maximum available output.

Organize profiles so tuning remains repeatable

  1. Create a clean baseline after calibration and save it before experimenting.
  2. Name profiles with the aircraft class, simulator and output mode.
  3. Record each deliberate change, such as “lowered Damper after oscillation in flare,” so you can reverse it without resetting everything.
  4. Keep one conservative profile for long sessions and a separate higher-load profile only if your mounting and comfort allow it.
  5. After a firmware update, recalibrate and recheck the saved profiles. Do not assume an old center or force response is unchanged.

When comparing two profiles, compare the same aircraft, weather, fuel or load state and flight phase. Otherwise you may attribute a change in the flight model to a Cockpit setting.

A practical decision rule

Use the lowest added resistance that gives the mechanical weight you want, and the lowest total intensity that makes aerodynamic and trim forces unmistakable. Spring answers “how strongly should it return to center?” Damper answers “how much should movement be resisted?” Inertia answers “how much mass should it seem to have?” Friction answers “how much constant drag should remain throughout travel?” Soft Limits answer “how should the 180-degree hardware range correspond to this aircraft’s virtual controls?” Keeping those questions separate makes troubleshooting faster and prevents a heavy, insensitive profile built by turning every slider up.
