Samsung lists a 7.6-inch main display with a 4:3 open aspect ratio; Google lists an 8-inch inner display. Those specifications show two different approaches to the large-screen format, not which one is better in everyday use.
Which foldable phones fit this use case?
Look for a book-style foldable: a phone with a conventional outer screen that opens sideways to reveal a larger inner display. It can replace carrying a separate phone and small tablet, but the experience depends on more than the inner screen’s diagonal measurement.

Samsung’s product page describes the Galaxy Z Fold8 as offering “a unique foldable design with long-lasting performance, advanced photography and AI features.” That is Samsung’s description, not independent evidence of camera quality, battery life, or durability. Google’s product page says, “You might think it’s a tablet.” That is Google’s framing of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, not a finding that it replaces every tablet use.

How to choose between the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Pixel 10 Pro Fold
Prioritize screen size and shape for your main tasks
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold has the larger listed inner-screen diagonal at 8 inches. The Galaxy Z Fold8’s 7.6-inch screen is specified at a 4:3 aspect ratio when open, a shape Samsung highlights for reading, video, and multitasking. Diagonal measurements alone cannot tell you which display gives you more usable space for a particular app or feels more comfortable to hold. If you can, try the layout with the apps you use most before choosing.

Check the outer screen and folded carry experience
The Pixel’s listed 6.4-inch outer display gives a concrete reference for its closed-phone screen. The cited Samsung product specifications do not establish a directly comparable outer-screen measurement here, so compare the actual devices if typing, one-handed use, or reading notifications while folded matters to you. The listed weights—201 g for Samsung and 9.1 oz for Google—use different units and are manufacturer specifications, not proof of how either phone feels in hand or in a pocket.
Match protection and updates to your priorities
Google lists IP68 dust and water resistance for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold and promises seven years of OS, security, and Pixel Drop updates. Google also says the hinge can handle 10+ years of folding; treat that as a product claim, not independent comparative longevity testing. The Samsung pages cited here do not establish an equivalent Galaxy Z Fold8 software-support period, so the available evidence does not support a head-to-head update-duration verdict.

Do not choose on camera or battery claims alone
The available manufacturer descriptions do not establish comparative camera quality, battery life, hinge reliability, or repair costs. If those are decisive, consult attributable testing for the exact models and regional versions you are considering rather than assuming that a product-page claim settles the comparison.

Samsung said Galaxy Z Fold8 sales began August 7, 2026, in select markets, with a wider global expansion through carriers, retailers, Samsung.com, and Samsung Experience Stores. The announcement does not guarantee stock in a particular country or store; check local inventory and the price shown at checkout. Samsung also points to official magnet cases, but verify that any case is specifically compatible with the Galaxy Z Fold8.

- Shortlist the Galaxy Z Fold8 if Samsung’s documented 4:3 open-screen format and its stated reading, video, and multitasking use cases fit your priorities, and the phone is available locally at a price you accept.
- Shortlist the Pixel 10 Pro Fold if you prioritize its listed 8-inch inner display, Google’s stated seven-year update commitment, or its published IP68 rating.
- Compare both in person if outer-screen typing, folded size, weight, camera performance, or comfort will determine whether you actually use the larger screen.
These are comparison candidates, not a universal ranking: manufacturer specifications and claims establish features, but do not substitute for independent testing or your own assessment of how a foldable fits your routine.
