There is no Nintendo Switch version of Pilotwings Resort. It is a Nintendo 3DS game built around Wuhu Island, three very different aircraft, Mission Mode and open-ended Free Flight. If you want the nearest match on Switch, start with Pilot Sports as a premise match, then consider Pilotwings 64 through Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. AirRevo, Fly TOGETHER! and Air Aces are better viewed as alternatives for specific tastes rather than direct replacements.
The important distinction is whether you want to explore at your own pace, clear structured flight challenges, plan routes with friends or fight through combat missions. The games below cover those different interpretations of “flying game,” with their limits made clear.

What made Pilotwings Resort distinctive
Pilotwings Resort is a Nintendo 3DS aerial-sports game set over Wuhu Island. Nintendo’s product description combines three vehicle types—planes, hang gliders and rocket belts—with two complementary modes. Mission Mode contains around 40 challenging flight missions in which you earn stars. Free Flight lets you scour the island for hundreds of collectible Extras while unlocking interactive 3D dioramas of aircraft and famous island monuments.
That combination matters because it is more than a conventional flight simulator. The appeal is a relaxed island playground, short objectives for when you want structure, and several kinds of movement that feel different from one another. A recommendation that only offers aircraft combat, or only offers a score attack, will miss part of the reason people remember Resort.

The game belongs to the Nintendo 3DS family, not Switch. Nintendo ended purchases for the Nintendo 3DS family eShop on March 27, 2023, so it should not be presented as a current Switch eShop purchase. A 3DS copy is not a Switch-compatible game. The Switch recommendations here therefore match particular parts of the experience rather than promising an identical port.

Choose by the part of Pilotwings you want to keep
For an island setting and several flying vehicles
Pilot Sports is the closest conceptual match found. Its 2018 review describes a paradise island and a roster of light aircraft, hang glider, jetpack and parachute, while explicitly comparing the concept with Nintendo’s Pilotwings games. That makes it the first title to investigate if the setting and vehicle variety matter most.
There is an important qualification: the review is historical and critical of the execution, and current regional storefront availability was not verified. Check your own Nintendo eShop region before treating it as a purchase option.

Pilotwings 64 is the clearest series connection available on Switch. It appears in the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack N64 catalog and is described as a flight-sim adventure that can move between tense and relaxing gameplay. It is an older N64 game, not the 3DS island design of Pilotwings Resort, but it preserves the series identity better than unrelated flying titles.
For short, score-driven flying challenges
AirRevo focuses on a tournament rather than a free-roaming island. Its official description places the action over mountains, lakes, a city and an airport, with stars to collect, time and fuel limits to manage, and achievements for performing tricks. Choose it when improving a run and mastering aerial stunts sounds more appealing than simply sightseeing.

For local multiplayer
Fly TOGETHER! is the only recommendation here with a stated local player count: up to eight people. Players draw flight paths, deliver passengers and avoid collisions. It is an action puzzle and party game, not a flight simulator or open-world exploration game, but it translates the idea of managing aircraft in shared space into a group activity. Nintendo lists handheld, stick and motion controls.
For jets, helicopters and combat
Air Aces is for readers whose priority has shifted from aerial sports to military action. Nintendo describes modern jets and helicopters and 16 missions set in war zones. It can satisfy the desire to fly aircraft on Switch, but it does not recreate Resort’s peaceful island tone or Free Flight collecting.
Pilot Sports: the closest premise, with a quality and availability caveat
The case for Pilot Sports is straightforward: it places multiple recreational aircraft over a paradise-island environment. The cited review identifies a light aircraft, hang glider, jetpack and parachute, giving it a broader vehicle mix than a game built around one plane. That variety is the part most likely to remind a Resort player of switching between aircraft with different handling and movement.
It should not be treated as an automatic recommendation. The available review, published in 2018, says the concept evokes Pilotwings while criticizing the execution. That is useful context: the premise is close, but similarity of setting and equipment does not establish equivalent polish, mission design or exploration depth.
Store status is another practical issue. Current regional availability was not verified, so search the eShop for your country and confirm that the listing is playable on Switch before buying. If it is unavailable in your region, move to Pilotwings 64 for the strongest series connection or select one of the more specialized alternatives below.

Pilotwings 64: the safest series-based choice
Pilotwings 64 is available through the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack N64 catalog. That access model is different from purchasing a standalone modern Switch game: you need the relevant subscription tier, and the title is supplied through the catalog rather than as a new 3DS-style release.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Nintendo Life describes it as a flight-sim adventure with both tense and relaxing gameplay. That balance is relevant to Resort fans. You can approach it as a challenge game when you want pressure, while its flight-focused format also supports the calmer side of the series. However, it is an N64-era game and should be judged as such; it is not a remake of Resort, does not place you on the 3DS version of Wuhu Island, and should not be confused with Pilotwings Resort.
Pick this option when the name, tone and style of the Pilotwings series matter more than having a modern open island with collectibles. It is also the least speculative recommendation in this list because its Switch catalog inclusion is explicitly identified. Verify that your subscription is Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack rather than the standard Nintendo Switch Online tier.
AirRevo: a focused alternative for stunts and scoring
AirRevo turns flying into a tournament. The described courses span mountains, lakes, a city and an airport, so the environments change from one challenge to the next. Its objectives are concrete: collect stars, work within time and fuel limits, and earn achievements by performing tricks.
This structure is a good fit for players who enjoyed the challenge side of Resort’s Mission Mode and want measurable goals. It is a poor fit if your main memory is drifting around Wuhu Island without a timer. The time and fuel rules make route choice and execution central, while the trick achievements reward deliberate aerial performance rather than sightseeing.

The listed release date is January 14, 2022. No current price or region-wide availability is established here, so check the local storefront for the live listing before purchase. Treat it as a score-attack stunt game whose flying is organized around a tournament, not as a replacement for Free Flight.
Fly TOGETHER!: shared routes instead of solo sightseeing
Fly TOGETHER! changes the question from “How do I fly this aircraft?” to “Can we keep a whole air-traffic network moving?” Players draw flight paths, deliver passengers and avoid collisions. Local play supports up to eight people, making it the most clearly social option in this group.
Nintendo lists three control approaches: handheld controls, stick controls and motion controls. That flexibility helps when several people are sharing a television or when each player prefers a different setup. The game’s core is still an action puzzle and party format. There is no basis for calling it a free-flight simulator, and its route-drawing tasks do not recreate Resort’s aircraft handling or island collecting.
Select it when local multiplayer is the deciding factor, especially for a group that enjoys coordination and quick reactions. Its listed release date is April 29, 2021. As with the other digital recommendations, confirm the current regional listing and price in your own eShop.

Air Aces: only if combat is the point
Air Aces is the most substantial change of genre. Nintendo lists modern jets and helicopters and 16 missions set in war zones. That gives you recognizable aircraft categories and a defined mission campaign, but the purpose is combat rather than aerial recreation.
Best Value
The distinction matters for expectations. If you want relaxed exploration, collectible hunting or the playful variety of planes, hang gliders and rocket belts, this is the wrong direction. If you specifically want military aircraft and a sequence of war-zone objectives, it is the only recommendation here built around that need.
The listed release date is December 8, 2023. The available information does not establish its current price, regional availability or multiplayer options, so those details should be checked on your local store page.
How the alternatives compare with Resort’s defining features
Free exploration versus structured missions
Resort combines both: Free Flight over Wuhu Island and around 40 Mission Mode challenges. Pilot Sports is the closest setting-and-vehicle interpretation, but its reviewed assessment does not establish an equivalent collectible system. Pilotwings 64 is the series-oriented option, while AirRevo is explicitly structured as a tournament with time, fuel and star goals. Fly TOGETHER! uses fixed route-planning puzzles, and Air Aces uses 16 combat missions.
Aerial sports versus combat and puzzles
Pilot Sports, Pilotwings 64 and AirRevo stay closest to recreational or challenge-based flying. Fly TOGETHER! is about managing routes and collisions, and Air Aces is about combat. Decide the activity first; the aircraft theme alone is not enough to make two games play alike.
Vehicle variety
Resort’s defining trio is plane, hang glider and rocket belt. Pilot Sports offers a light aircraft, hang glider, jetpack and parachute in the reviewed description. Air Aces supplies modern jets and helicopters. AirRevo is described in terms of stunt-plane challenges, while Fly TOGETHER! focuses on route management rather than a catalog of distinct aircraft. The available description of Pilotwings 64 establishes its flight-sim identity but does not provide a directly comparable vehicle count here.
Solo atmosphere versus local group play
Fly TOGETHER! is the clear group choice because local play for up to eight is explicitly listed. The other descriptions center on individual flight challenges, tournaments or missions and do not establish comparable local player counts. Do not assume that a flying-themed game supports couch multiplayer unless the store listing says so.
One-time purchase versus subscription access
Pilotwings 64 is accessed through Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. The other recommendations are presented as Switch software listings, but current prices and regional availability were not verified. Check whether a title is sold in your region and whether it requires an active subscription before making a decision.
A practical selection guide
- Start with your must-have feature. Choose island exploration and multiple recreational vehicles for Pilot Sports; choose the Pilotwings series for Pilotwings 64; choose stunt scoring for AirRevo; choose local group play for Fly TOGETHER!; choose military missions for Air Aces.
- Check the access model. Confirm that your Nintendo Switch Online plan includes the Expansion Pack before relying on Pilotwings 64. For the other games, search your regional Nintendo eShop and verify the live listing.
- Decide how much freedom you need. Resort’s Free Flight is unusually important to its identity. If unrestricted sightseeing is non-negotiable, none of these descriptions proves a full replacement. Select the closest premise match, but keep expectations realistic.
- Separate premise from execution. The 2018 assessment of Pilot Sports supports its conceptual similarity while also criticizing its execution. Read the current store description and user feedback available in your region before buying.
- Do not buy a 3DS copy for Switch. Resort belongs to the Nintendo 3DS family, and the 3DS eShop stopped new purchases on March 27, 2023. A legacy cartridge does not become a Switch game.
Bottom line: which game should you try first?
For the closest overall premise, investigate Pilot Sports, but verify regional availability and remember that the available 2018 review is mixed. For an authentic Pilotwings connection on current Switch hardware, choose Pilotwings 64 through Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Choose AirRevo for timed stunts, Fly TOGETHER! for up to eight-player local route puzzles, and Air Aces only when combat aircraft and war-zone missions are what you actually want.
