Best Fitness Trackers of 2026: Wearables for Health and Wellness

The best fitness tracker depends on what you’ll wear consistently, which phone you use, and whether you need independent route tracking or mainly want everyday wellness and sleep data. TechRadar’s October 2026 guide names the Garmin vívoactive 6 its overall pick, but a ring, a screenless tracker, or an iPhone-focused smartwatch may fit your routine better.

How to choose a fitness tracker

“Fitness tracker” now covers slim bands, GPS watches, full smartwatches, screenless wearables, and smart rings. A screen gives you workout stats and notifications at a glance; a smaller or screenless device can be less obtrusive, especially overnight. There is no single best form for every routine.

Start with your phone and the companion app

Check support for your exact phone model and operating system before comparing features. Compatibility claims can be inconsistent: TechRadar’s Galaxy Fit 3 specifications list Android and iOS, while its review notes an iPhone-compatibility caveat. Confirm current support with the manufacturer for your phone and region.

Decide whether you need built-in GPS

Built-in GPS can record a route and pace without carrying your phone. Connected GPS relies on a paired phone, and some devices have no onboard GPS. For running or cycling outdoors, check this distinction before choosing; for general activity and sleep tracking, it may matter less.

Match battery life to how you’ll use it

Battery estimates vary widely and are not directly comparable: display use, GPS sessions, notifications, and overnight tracking affect how often a device needs charging. In TechRadar’s 2026 comparison, listed specifications range from 18 hours for Apple Watch SE 3 to up to 13 days for the Samsung Galaxy Fit 3. Treat these as source-reported figures, not guaranteed real-world results, and check the manufacturer’s current conditions.

Consider comfort, coaching, and subscriptions

A tracker only helps with overnight trends if you can comfortably sleep in it. Also check which training or wellness insights work without a paid membership: TechRadar says many Oura features require membership and that Google Fitbit Air’s advanced features are limited without a subscription. Compare ongoing costs as well as the device’s feature list.

Fitness trackers to consider in 2026

The recommendations below are attributed to TechRadar’s guide, updated October 2026; they are not independent test results from Freedom251. Battery figures are the guide’s reported specifications, not a promise of typical use.

Samsung Galaxy Fit 3 Budget pick No built-in GPS; Android and iOS listed, but the guide also flags an iPhone-compatibility caveat Up to 13 days in the specifications table The guide gives a conflicting 14-day figure elsewhere and does not resolve the iPhone caveat. Apple Watch SE 3 iPhone-oriented smartwatch option GPS; iOS 18 hours Its reported battery figure is much shorter than the multi-day estimates for several trackers in this comparison.
Oura Ring 5 Sleep tracking and a screen-free form iOS and Android Up to nine days TechRadar says membership is required for many features.

Which type suits your routine?

For outdoor running or cycling

Prioritize built-in GPS if you want to record routes without carrying a phone, then compare training metrics and battery behavior during GPS workouts. The Garmin vívoactive 6 and Amazfit Active 3 Premium are the GPS-equipped options in this shortlist; the Apple Watch SE 3 also lists GPS and is aimed at iPhone users. A screenless device with connected GPS may be less suitable if you want to leave your phone behind.

For everyday wellness and sleep

Comfort, overnight wear, and whether you want a screen are more relevant than a long list of workout modes. The Oura Ring 5 is the ring option, while Google Fitbit Air is screenless. Check what each companion app includes without a membership before deciding which insights justify the ongoing cost.

For a tight budget

TechRadar names the Samsung Galaxy Fit 3 its budget pick. Its guide’s 13-day specifications figure is not a guarantee, and the same guide gives a conflicting 14-day figure and an iPhone caveat. Verify the current model’s official specifications and compatibility rather than relying on either estimate alone.

For an iPhone-centered smartwatch

TechRadar recommends Apple Watch SE 3 for iPhone users. Its listed 18-hour battery figure makes charging frequency an important part of the choice, particularly if you also want to wear it overnight.

Use a shortlist before buying

  1. Confirm compatibility: Check the manufacturer’s current requirements for your exact phone, operating-system version, and region.
  2. Choose your form factor: Decide whether you want a watch display, a slim band, a screenless wearable, or a ring you can wear overnight.
  3. Set your GPS requirement: For phone-free routes, look for built-in GPS. If connected GPS is acceptable, factor in carrying your phone.
  4. Check battery conditions: Look for how the stated estimate changes with GPS, screen use, and sleep tracking; compare the conditions, not just the number.
  5. Price the full feature set: Confirm whether the coaching or wellness insights you want require a recurring membership.
  6. Favor the device you’ll wear: Comfort and a charging routine you can maintain may matter more than extra metrics you will rarely use.
