The best follow-up to Street Fighter 6 depends on what you want to keep and what you want to change. Choose TEKKEN 8 for a deliberate move into 3D combat and a social practice hub; Guilty Gear -Strive- for a distinctive 2.5D fighter built around its Tension Gauge; Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising for fighting, story, training and party modes in one package; Mortal Kombat 1 for a cinematic campaign and Kameo assists; or FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves for the REV system, two control schemes and an RPG-style solo mode.
None is a one-for-one replacement. Street Fighter 6 combines the traditional matches of Fighting Ground with the World Tour journey and the Battle Hub social space. Match the alternative to the part of that mix you use most, then confirm the platform and edition before buying.

Before choosing another title, identify which part of Street Fighter 6 keeps you playing. Capcom’s official manual divides the game into three main areas:
#1 Best Overall
- Arcade Quest - In the new single-player mode ‘Arcade Quest’, players can create their own avatar and conquer their rivals in a variety of different arcades. This mode serves as an introduction to the gameplay of TEKKEN 8, allowing players to acquire basic knowledge, learn practical techniques, and enjoy a unique storyline and battles different from regular matches. .
- Fighting Ground: the traditional fighting-game portion, where the match itself is the focus.
- World Tour: a single-player journey for players who want progression around their fights.
- Battle Hub: an online social space as well as a place to find matches.
If you mainly want another competitive fighter, every game in this guide can serve as a new ruleset to learn. If you want a solo journey, social lobby, party activity or alternate control scheme as well, the choice becomes much narrower. Decide whether your priority is combat format, system mechanics, onboarding, solo content, online features or purchase flexibility.
TEKKEN 8: the clearest move to a different combat format
Why it suits a Street Fighter 6 player
TEKKEN 8 is the strongest choice when you are curious about 3D fighting rather than another 2D-style game. That is a genuine format change, not a small variation on Fighting Ground. Positioning, movement around an arena and the way attacks occupy space all need to be learned in the context of a three-dimensional fighter.
Choose it because you want to study that new format, not because you expect your existing Street Fighter habits to transfer unchanged. Your experience reading opponents and practising matchups remains useful, but the practical questions you ask during a round are different.
Online and local features
Bandai Namco’s official information highlights the TEKKEN Fight Lounge, an online place to interact and practise. It also lists local multiplayer for one or two players and battles against other players’ ghost data. Ghost fights can give you a way to work against recorded player behaviour when you want practice outside a live match.
This makes TEKKEN 8 a good fit if the social side of Battle Hub matters to you. If you only want a traditional 2D match flow, however, its central attraction is also its largest adjustment.
Who should skip it
- Skip it if your priority is staying within the movement and spacing conventions of a 2D-style fighter.
- Look elsewhere if the main reason you enjoy Street Fighter 6 is its specific solo journey rather than its competitive matches.
- Do not buy it assuming that a familiar control layout makes it mechanically interchangeable with Street Fighter 6.
Guilty Gear -Strive-: a stylised 2.5D fighter with its own resource language
What makes the transition interesting
Arc System Works describes Guilty Gear -Strive- as the latest entry in a long-running series and identifies it as a 2.5D fighter. It keeps the side-on readability associated with 2D fighters while presenting a different visual and mechanical identity. This is a better pick than TEKKEN 8 if you want a new game without leaving the side-on format entirely.
The important warning is that “2.5D” does not mean “Street Fighter with different characters.” The game has its own timing, character designs and universal rules. Treat the first sessions as learning a new language rather than transferring a complete Street Fighter playbook.
The Tension Gauge
The official battle-systems material identifies the Tension Gauge as a key resource for universal mechanics. That gives the game a system-level decision layer beyond choosing normal attacks and special moves: you must learn when the resource is earned, what it enables and how spending it changes a round. Readers who enjoy finding a fighter’s distinctive engine will get more from Guilty Gear -Strive- than readers looking for a near-identical substitute.
Rank #2
- TEKKEN 8, the brand new part of the legendary TEKKEN range, brings the battle to a new generation!
- TEKKEN 8 continues the tragic saga of the Mishima bloodline and their world-moving battles between father and son.
- With a variety of single-player content, such as the all-new Arcade Quest mode and a comprehensive customization system for characters and avatars, TEKKEN 8 offers the most exciting experience yet.
Best fit and trade-offs
- Choose it for a highly individual presentation, a 2.5D format and a resource system that shapes universal play.
- Expect to relearn matchup assumptions, because the Tension Gauge and the game’s own battle rules are not Street Fighter 6 mechanics.
- Do not choose it solely because it is also viewed from the side; its identity comes from the complete system, not the camera angle alone.
Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising: a broad package between matches
Why it fits players who want variety
Cygames lists Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising under both fighting and party genres. Its official features describe Story, Arcade and Training modes, plus a large online lobby and the party mode Grand Bruise Legends. That combination makes it the most natural recommendation here if you want to alternate serious matches with other activities instead of staying in a single competitive queue.
Story and Arcade give you structured solo options, while Training is available when you want to work on the fundamentals of the fighting system. The lobby and Grand Bruise Legends add reasons to remain in the game when you are not ready for another ranked-style session.
Edition warning
The official features page states that a listed feature is not available in the Free Edition. It does not make every mode available in every edition, so do not assume that downloading the free version grants the complete package. Check the exact feature list for the edition offered on your platform before deciding.
Platforms and who should choose it
Cygames lists PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Steam on its official site. Platform support, regional storefront listings and edition contents can change, so verify them at purchase. Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is the best fit in this set when your ideal follow-up includes a fighting game plus a lobby, story route, training room and party activity rather than a single-purpose versus game.
Mortal Kombat 1: choose the cinematic route and Kameo assists
Solo content first
Mortal Kombat 1’s official FAQ lists a single-player Story mode and the Invasions progression mode. This is the clearest choice for a Street Fighter 6 player who wants a substantial, presentation-led solo experience alongside conventional fights.
Its solo structure is not the same as World Tour, so approach it as a different kind of progression. The useful question is whether you want a cinematic campaign and a separate progression mode, not whether it reproduces Street Fighter 6’s journey.
Kameo Fighters
Kameo Fighters are selected separately from the main roster and assist during matches. That partner layer changes how you plan an exchange: you are choosing both a primary fighter and an assisting Kameo, then learning how their tools interact. It is the right recommendation if an assist mechanic sounds more appealing than mastering a single-character toolkit alone.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteEdition and DLC checks
The official FAQ lists expansions, downloadable content and a Definitive Edition Upgrade. The contents of those offers can differ by platform and edition. Compare the actual product description in your storefront rather than assuming that a base copy includes every character, story addition or upgrade. Prices are intentionally not fixed here because they change by region, sale and edition.

FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves: REV risk, two input styles and an RPG-style mode
The REV system
SNK positions the REV system as the game’s defining risk-and-reward layer. The practical implication is that you are learning a new resource and decision framework rather than simply moving from one roster to another. It suits players who want a fighter with a clearly named system to study and build their strategy around.
Arcade Style and Smart Style
SNK describes two control schemes: Arcade Style uses precise, technical inputs, while Smart Style performs flashy special moves and combos through directional inputs and single-button presses. These are in-game control options, not evidence that an extra fight stick or special controller is required.
Arcade Style is the natural starting point if you want traditional input practice. Smart Style can lower the barrier to trying characters and actions, especially when you are exploring the game before committing to deeper execution. Neither option makes the underlying game identical to Street Fighter 6; they simply change how commands are entered.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Episodes of South Town and online tools
The single-player Episodes of South Town mode gives City of the Wolves an RPG-style progression path separate from ordinary versus matches. The official game-modes information also lists training, online ranked, casual and room matches, rollback netcode, cross-platform play, replays and AI-generated clones. That is an unusually complete set of practice and review tools for someone who wants to examine matches rather than only queue for them.
Date-sensitive demo and Switch 2 information
SNK’s September 30, 2026 announcement described a demo with six characters and Arcade, Classic Versus, Training, Tutorial, Trial and Color Edit modes. The same announcement said a Nintendo Switch 2 version was scheduled for late October 2026. Both the demo’s availability and that schedule are date-sensitive; check SNK’s current announcement and your regional storefront before relying on them.

If you want traditional technical inputs
Start with Guilty Gear -Strive- or FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves in Arcade Style, then compare their systems rather than their button layouts. The former asks you to understand the Tension Gauge; the latter asks you to manage REV while choosing how much execution assistance you want.
If you want an easier way to try characters
City of the Wolves explicitly offers Smart Style, which uses directional inputs and single-button presses for special moves and combos. Treat that as an optional control route, not a promise that every advanced situation becomes automatic.
Rank #4
- A Fighter for a New Generation – 32 fighters with next-gen visuals will collide in Tekken 8! Both new and returning characters are stunningly portrayed in high-detailed character models built from the ground up - featuring every drop of sweat and ripped muscles for an immersive experience.
- New Game, New Rivalry - TEKKEN 8 continues the tragic saga of the Mishima and Kazama bloodlines and their world-shaking father-and-son grudge matches. In this latest chapter, Jin Kazama will seek to defy his fate as he faces his father Kazuya Mishima causing war and destruction across the globe.
- Exciting New Gameplay - TEKKEN 8 will feature exciting new gameplay focused on “Aggressive” tactics. Retaining TEKKEN’s unique fighting game identity, the game will provide both players and spectators with the series‘ most thrilling experience yet with visceral screen-jarring attacks and environments that are both dynamic and destructible.
- Built for Personalisation - With a wide variety of customisations to playable characters, avatars, HUD elements, and music – players can tailor their experience to their own personal preferences. There is more freedom in customisation options than ever before for playable characters.
If you learn best through structured instruction
City of the Wolves lists Tutorial and Training, while Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising lists Training and Story. Mortal Kombat 1’s appeal is more about its Story and Invasions structure, and TEKKEN 8’s cited strengths are its lounge, local play and ghost-data practice. Choose the game whose named learning path matches how you prefer to begin.
Choose by solo content
- Story-led campaign: Mortal Kombat 1 explicitly includes Story mode.
- Progression plus story or arcade: Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising lists Story and Arcade; Mortal Kombat 1 lists Invasions; City of the Wolves lists Episodes of South Town.
- RPG-style fighting-game journey: FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves is the only game in this set whose cited material calls out an RPG-style mode by name.
- Primarily competitive or social experimentation: TEKKEN 8’s cited features focus on the Fight Lounge, local matches and ghost data.
Choose by online and social play
For a social destination similar in spirit to Battle Hub, compare TEKKEN Fight Lounge and Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising’s large online lobby. TEKKEN 8 adds ghost-data battles, while Granblue adds Grand Bruise Legends for a party-style break from standard fights.
For a tool-rich online practice and review setup, City of the Wolves lists ranked, casual and room matches alongside rollback netcode, cross-platform play, replays and AI-generated clones. These are feature descriptions, not independent measurements of connection quality or population. Check current service status and regional support before purchase.

- Name the mode you will play most. Pick traditional versus, a story campaign, RPG-style progression, a social lobby, party play or practice tools before comparing rosters.
- Choose your format. Select TEKKEN 8 only if you are ready for 3D combat; select a 2.5D or side-on game if you want to retain more visual familiarity while learning a different system.
- Match the signature mechanic. Tension Gauge, Kameo Fighters and REV each change decision-making in a different way. Read the mechanic description and watch current gameplay from an official source before buying if that system is your main reason for switching.
- Check control options. City of the Wolves offers Arcade Style and Smart Style. Do not infer that any other title supports the same input choices unless its current product page says so.
- Verify the exact offer. Confirm platform, region, edition, included DLC, online requirements, retail format and current price. For Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, check whether the Free Edition includes the feature you want; for Mortal Kombat 1, compare the base game, expansions and Definitive Edition Upgrade.
Platform, edition and date checks before you buy
Platform and storefront information changes more quickly than a game’s core mechanics. The cited materials list Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Steam, but you should still confirm the current regional listing. City of the Wolves’ Switch 2 timing was described as late October 2026 in a September 30 announcement, so treat that as a schedule rather than a guarantee.
Also check whether you are buying a base game, a free edition, an upgrade or a package with downloadable content. A title can be the right mechanical fit and still be the wrong purchase if the mode or character access you expect is in another edition.
Which game should you pick?
Pick TEKKEN 8 when the point of buying another fighter is to experience 3D combat and a social practice hub. Pick Guilty Gear -Strive- when you want a 2.5D fighter whose Tension Gauge gives the game a distinct strategic identity. Pick Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising when variety—Story, Arcade, Training, a lobby and Grand Bruise Legends—matters as much as matches. Pick Mortal Kombat 1 when a cinematic Story mode and Kameo partners are your priorities. Pick FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves when REV, two input schemes, Episodes of South Town and a broad set of online practice features sound like the change you want.
The most reliable choice is the one that replaces the part of Street Fighter 6 you actually use, while deliberately changing the part you want to explore. Confirm the current platform and edition after making that decision.
