1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesNo fiber provider is the best for everyone in 2026, and no public source offers a reproducible numeric ranking of them. The most useful current evidence is a Consumer Reports member survey of more than 105,000 people. Quartz reported it on October 1, 2026. It scored broadband companies on speed, value, reliability and support, and it names ten leading fiber providers: IQ Fiber, Wyyerd Fiber, Firefly Fiber Broadband, Empire Access, US Internet/T-Mobile Fiber, Greenlight Networks, Ezee Fiber, Surf Internet, EPB of Chattanooga and Socket.
The accessible report does not publish provider-level scores. This article therefore treats the ten names as a shortlist and does not invent a 1-to-10 order. Almost all of these are regional networks, so the real first filter is whether one of them serves your address. The sections below compare the shortlist on each of your four criteria and explain how to choose.

Start with your address, not the list
Every provider on the shortlist is limited to specific regions, and some are limited to a single utility’s territory. Use the FCC National Broadband Map to see which fixed-broadband providers report service at your exact address. The map shows provider-reported availability, refined by FCC verification, corrections and public input. It is a starting point, not a promise. A provider may report an address as serviceable when a plan still can’t be ordered there, and advertised speeds may not match what you get.

- Enter your exact address in the FCC National Broadband Map and note the fiber providers listed.
- Confirm service on each provider’s own ordering page.
- Open the broadband consumer label for the specific plan you would buy.
- Weigh upload and download speed, total monthly cost, contract and data-cap terms, reliability evidence and support.
- If the map is wrong for your address, you can challenge it. Public input is part of how the map is corrected.
The 2026 shortlist at a glance
The providers appear in the order the source used. That order is not a score ranking. Plan details are what Quartz reported in its roundup. They are not current price quotes, and tiers, names and terms change, so confirm them on the plan label.

What the survey said about each provider
The survey takeaways below are the report’s descriptions, not numeric scores. Each entry adds the caveat that matters most before you commit.
IQ Fiber
Members praised it across speed, pricing and support. Its tier range starts at 250 Mbps, a lower entry point than most of the list. The 5 Gbps tier is reported only for some areas.
Wyyerd Fiber
Praised across categories. Its lowest tier, 600 Mbps, is the highest entry point on the list, so it suits households that want a fast plan with no step-down option. The report also mentions a MyBundle.TV streaming-bundle partnership. Confirm that it is still offered where you live.

Firefly Fiber Broadband
Praised for value, speed and reliability. It is the only shortlisted provider that offers a 100 Mbps symmetrical tier, and it advertises no expiring promotional rates. It serves a cooperative’s territory, so it is a realistic option only if you live inside that footprint. The 48,000-household figure is a reported coverage number, not an audited subscriber count.
Empire Access
Members rated it highly. The report gives no breakdown by category. A streaming-TV partnership is also mentioned.

US Internet / T-Mobile Fiber
Praised for reliability, support and value. Quartz says US Internet was acquired and its network now carries T-Mobile Fiber branding in some areas. Before you sign up, check which brand is billing you and whether the terms in your area match the ones reported for US Internet.
Greenlight Networks
Praised for speed, value and reliability. The source mentions expansion activity, so your address may be covered now even if it wasn’t when the roundup was written.
Ezee Fiber
Praised for speed, reliability and value. It is the only provider here reported to include a mesh router (an eero) with every plan. Check that this is still true on the label, because it could change the real monthly cost.
Surf Internet
Praised across service, speed, reliability and value. The three-year rate lock is the longest price guarantee reported on the list. Verify its length, eligibility and what happens when it ends.
EPB of Chattanooga
Members praised it across the attributes measured. It has the highest top speed reported, 25 Gbps on some plans, though almost no household will use that. The source says Tennessee law limits its fiber service to households that also buy electricity from the utility. That is an unusual eligibility condition.

Socket
Praised for speed, reliability and value. The report ties the no-contract signup option to parts of Missouri and nearby Illinois towns. That implies different terms elsewhere in its footprint, so read the label for your town.
Speed: compare tiers and symmetry, not maximums
Fiber’s main advantage over cable is symmetrical speed, meaning uploads match downloads. Nearly every provider above is reported to offer symmetrical tiers. That matters for video calls, cloud backups and large uploads. Ezee Fiber’s report states a 1 to 8 Gbps range but doesn’t say the tiers are symmetrical, so confirm that on its label.
A few cautions apply when you read speed claims:
- Top tiers such as 5, 8 and 25 Gbps are reported for some markets or plans only. They are not what a typical customer buys or receives.
- Advertised tiers are not measured performance. Google Fiber’s broadband-label explainer, for example, says its typical speeds come from internal wired testing and are not guaranteed. It adds that Wi-Fi is usually slower than a wired connection. That statement covers Google Fiber only, but the same wired-versus-Wi-Fi gap applies to any fiber plan.
- For most homes, the plan that fits is the one that covers peak simultaneous use. A 1 to 2 Gbps tier is already well beyond what most households can use, so extra headline speed rarely beats price and reliability.
Independent speed data does exist, but only for ISPs overall. HighSpeedInternet.com says its 2026 annual review draws on 6 to 8 million unique speed tests per year to calculate average and median speeds, latency and jitter by ISP. That is a separate dataset from the Consumer Reports survey, so don’t blend the two.

The FCC’s rule at 47 CFR § 8.1 is the best tool for comparing providers honestly. It requires an accurate broadband consumer label for each stand-alone plan and says the label must be available at points of sale, including provider websites. It also describes machine-readable label data. The rule’s disclosure duty reads:
“Any person providing broadband internet access service shall publicly disclose accurate information regarding the network management practices, performance characteristics, and commercial terms of its broadband internet access services sufficient to enable consumers to make informed choices regarding the purchase and use of such services and entrepreneurs and other small businesses to develop, market, and maintain internet offerings.” (47 CFR § 8.1(a))

In practice, compare the label for the exact plan you are considering, not a headline promotion set against another provider’s standard price. The “no hidden fees” claims in the table above are marketing language until you have read the label, which lists the monthly price, one-time fees and typical speeds.
Stability: no objective winner exists
No nationwide uptime comparison of these providers is available. Outage data is patchy and too region-specific to compare fairly. HighSpeedInternet.com’s 2026 methodology says exactly that, and it bases its reliability score entirely on customer feedback. The Consumer Reports survey also measures reliability through member experience. So a survey that praises a provider for reliability is reporting satisfaction. It isn’t measuring uptime.
US Internet / T-Mobile Fiber, Firefly, Greenlight, Ezee, Surf and Socket drew reliability praise in the report. That is a reason to look closer, not proof they will outperform a neighbor’s connection. To test stability where you live:
- Ask neighbors or local community groups who is on the same network and how outages were handled.
- Check whether the plan label or provider terms mention service-level commitments or repair timelines.
- Notice whether support is local. Several providers on this list are small, regional or cooperative-owned, and that can speed up repairs.
Value: add up the whole bill
A fair cost comparison across these networks isn’t possible from the public data. Plans, speeds and regions don’t line up, so a cost-per-megabit table would mislead. Compare value at your own address using these points:
Recommended Free Tools
- Recurring price: the monthly rate after any promotion ends. Firefly says it has no expiring promotional rates, and Surf reports a three-year rate lock.
- Installation and equipment: US Internet / T-Mobile Fiber and Ezee Fiber report free or no-charge installation, and Ezee includes a mesh router. Empire Access and Wyyerd also report no installation fees. A router you don’t have to buy or rent changes the real comparison.
- Contracts: most providers on the list report none, but Socket’s no-contract option is tied to specific places.
- Data caps and throttling: every provider is reported to have no caps. EPB also says it doesn’t throttle.
- Eligibility conditions: EPB’s electricity-customer requirement is one example.
Which provider fits which priority
Because you can only choose among providers that serve your address, use these pointers to compare the ones that do:
- Lowest entry speed or smallest plan: Firefly (100 Mbps) and IQ Fiber (250 Mbps), if you want to avoid paying for gigabit capacity.
- Most headroom: EPB (up to 25 Gbps on some plans), plus Wyyerd, Greenlight, Ezee and Surf, which report 8 Gbps in some markets.
- Price stability: Surf’s three-year rate lock and Firefly’s no-expiring-promo policy.
- Included Wi-Fi hardware: Ezee Fiber’s eero router.
- Service from a large carrier: US Internet customers may be moved to T-Mobile Fiber branding. Check the terms.
If none of the ten serves your address, the shortlist can still guide your questions. Look for a fiber provider that publishes symmetrical tiers, a plan-specific label, no data caps and clear installation and equipment terms. Then judge it on reliability evidence from people on its network.
