Best FFmpeg Alternatives for Looping Prerecorded Videos on YouTube Live

If you want a prerecorded playlist to run continuously on YouTube Live without keeping a computer on, choose a cloud service that explicitly supports playlists and looping. StreamNeo is the first option to consider: it runs an always-on YouTube stream from the cloud, plays uploaded videos at their original quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. Restream is the best-documented alternative in the reviewed product documentation for scheduling recorded videos and playing a series as one stream. StreamYard is better suited to a scheduled prerecorded broadcast than an unattended repeating playlist. If you prefer to operate an encoder yourself, YouTube accepts software and hardware encoders configured with its server URL and stream key.

First decide whether you need a scheduled video or a repeating playlist

These are different jobs. A scheduled prerecorded broadcast plays an uploaded video at a chosen time. A continuous playlist needs to move through multiple videos and repeat or otherwise continue unattended. A service documenting the first workflow should not be assumed to provide the second.

  • One scheduled broadcast: StreamYard documents an automatic prerecorded broadcast at a selected time.
  • A series of videos as one stream: Restream documents playlists and recorded videos that can appear live while the creator is offline.
  • An always-on YouTube stream from uploaded videos: StreamNeo loops recordings in the cloud, so a computer at home does not need to remain on.
  • Local control: A software or hardware encoder can send a stream to YouTube, but YouTube’s encoder instructions do not establish that every encoder has unattended playlist scheduling built in.

Best FFmpeg alternatives for this job

The options below are not identical: some are cloud services, while a local encoder leaves more of the setup and ongoing operation to you. Service features and plan limits can change, so check the linked documentation before subscribing or scheduling a long run.

Option Documented fit for prerecorded video Computer must stay on? Scheduling and automation Production controls or limits
1. StreamNeo Always-on YouTube stream from uploaded recordings; supports looping and playlists. No; it runs in the cloud. Upload videos, add the YouTube stream key once, then go live; cloud looping and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. One flat price per slot for uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps; no re-encode or quality tiers. One stream per slot, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, and StreamNeo team support.
2. Restream Its Help Center describes scheduled recorded videos and playlists that play a series of videos as one stream; its product page describes queuing, scheduling, and looping. The reviewed pages describe videos appearing live while the user is offline; check current plan and setup requirements. Scheduling and playlist features are documented by Restream. The reviewed evidence does not establish comparable quality limits, total costs, or independent uptime.
3. Streamloop The vendor describes turning prerecorded playlists into continuous live streams. The vendor describes cloud operation without leaving a computer running. The vendor describes scheduling and playlist-order controls. It advertises up to 4K/60fps. These are vendor statements; output quality, uptime, and billing were not independently tested.
4. StreamYard Documents an automatically scheduled prerecorded broadcast; the reviewed help article does not establish continuous playlist looping. The automatic broadcast is scheduled, but confirm current plan and workflow requirements. Choose a time for a prerecorded video to stream automatically. Help documentation specifies MP4 with H.264, upload bitrate up to 10 Mbps, and paid-plan output up to 1080p. Comments cannot be shown on-stream, and overlays and other media assets cannot be controlled as in a standard live studio.
5. A local software or hardware encoder YouTube supports software encoders and standalone hardware encoders; playlist looping depends on the encoder and setup. For a locally operated stream, the encoder device and its connection need to remain available while streaming. YouTube explains how to connect an encoder, not a built-in repeating playlist workflow for each named product. Restream names OBS, vMix, Wirecast, and Ecamm as popular encoders that can connect using RTMP details. That does not establish unattended looping support for each one.

1. StreamNeo: cloud looping without a home computer

StreamNeo is a YouTube-only service for keeping a channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the videos from the cloud. Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, playlists and 24/7 looping, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team. Your uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, without re-encoding or quality tiers.

2. Restream: the clearest documented playlist alternative

Restream’s Help Center article on prerecorded streams says recorded videos can be scheduled to appear live while the creator is offline, and its playlist feature can play a series of videos as one stream. Its prerecorded-video product page describes queuing, scheduling, and looping videos. This makes Restream the strongest documented fit in this comparison for people seeking playlists rather than only a single scheduled video. Those feature descriptions do not, by themselves, establish a particular uptime, output quality, or total cost.

3. Streamloop: a cloud-first candidate, with vendor claims to verify

Streamloop’s site describes scheduling and continuously streaming playlists from the cloud, including advertised output up to 4K/60fps. Treat these as the vendor’s descriptions, not independently verified performance findings. Confirm the current billing model, supported files, and limits directly before relying on it for a continuous channel.

4. StreamYard: schedule a prerecorded broadcast, not a proven playlist loop

StreamYard’s prerecorded-broadcast help article documents automatically streaming an uploaded video at a selected time. It specifies MP4 with H.264 encoding, upload bitrate up to 10 Mbps, and paid-plan prerecorded output up to 1080p. The same help article says the automatic prerecorded workflow cannot show comments on-stream or control overlays and other media assets as a regular live studio can. The reviewed documentation does not establish a repeating playlist loop, so confirm that capability rather than treating scheduled playback as 24/7 automation. Plan details are subject to change; see the StreamYard pricing page.

5. Local encoders: compatible with YouTube, but automation is your responsibility

YouTube accepts software and standalone hardware encoders. Its encoder setup guidance explains how to connect using the YouTube Live server URL and stream key. Restream’s Help Center lists OBS, vMix, Wirecast, and Ecamm as examples of encoders that can be connected with RTMP details. Compatibility with YouTube is not proof that a particular encoder has a turnkey, unattended repeating-playlist feature. Check the encoder’s current documentation and plan how it will recover from a stopped process, network interruption, or power loss.

  1. Prepare the broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room. Create or schedule the live stream and locate the server URL and stream key for that broadcast.
  2. Open your encoder’s stream settings. Choose the service or destination for YouTube if the encoder offers it, or select a custom RTMP destination where appropriate.
  3. Enter the YouTube server URL and stream key. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to send video to your channel.
  4. Configure the video source and start the encoder. For a prerecorded playlist, verify separately that your software can advance through the intended files and repeat them; YouTube’s connection instructions do not configure playlist automation.
  5. Check the incoming preview and stream status in Live Control Room. Confirm that the expected video and audio arrive before making the broadcast public or relying on it unattended.

Plan for YouTube archives and channel rules

Long-running streams and replays

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A continuous broadcast that runs longer than 12 hours may not be automatically archived, so do not assume one long stream will produce a complete replay. Check YouTube’s current live-stream guidance when planning archive needs; separate shorter broadcasts may better suit channels that need dependable replay segments.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Copyright and reused content

Having a file available to stream does not establish that you have the rights to its music, video, images, or other included material. Use content you own or are licensed to broadcast, and review YouTube’s current copyright and monetization rules before scheduling a loop. Repeating a video also does not make it original: a channel seeking monetization should ensure its programming adds value and complies with YouTube’s policies. See the copyright safety checklist before building a playlist.

Choose based on how hands-on you want to be

  • Choose StreamNeo if you want an always-on YouTube stream of uploaded videos without leaving a computer running, with cloud recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
  • Consider Restream if its documented scheduled-video and playlist workflow fits your needs, and verify current plan limits and pricing.
  • Consider Streamloop if its vendor-described cloud playlist features fit, while treating its performance and quality statements as claims to verify.
  • Choose StreamYard for a scheduled prerecorded broadcast when its documented workflow and production-control limitations are acceptable; do not assume it repeats playlists continuously.
  • Choose a local encoder if you want to operate the stream yourself and have verified the specific encoder’s playlist and recovery capabilities.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload a video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot; and automatic recovery can restart the stream if YouTube drops it. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. Use the upload-time calculator to estimate transfer time and the cloud vs PC cost calculator to compare operating approaches.
