For a more family-oriented animated quest, try The Dragon Prince; for darker, more philosophical fantasy, choose His Dark Materials. If Percy Jackson’s modern teen-hero humor mattered more to you than myth and questing, Ms. Marvel is a good adjacent pick, though it is a superhero story.
Which series should you watch after Percy Jackson?
The right follow-up depends on what you want to carry over: a young protagonist, friends on a quest, magic and mythology, a lighter family watch, or a more complex story. Disney+ labels Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV-PG and classifies it as action/adventure and fantasy; that is useful context, not a universal age recommendation or a rating comparison for the shows below. Disney+’s series listing has the classification.

| Choose this | If you want |
|---|---|
| Avatar: The Last Airbender (original animated series) | The broadest match: young hero, loyal ensemble, elemental magic, travel, humor, and a story that becomes more serious. |
| The Dragon Prince | An animated quest, invented-world lore, and magic, with a family-and-kids fantasy framing on Netflix. |
| His Dark Materials | A more serious, philosophical fantasy journey. |
| Ms. Marvel | A contemporary teen hero, school and family life, and humor—not a conventional mythic fantasy quest. |
1. Avatar: The Last Airbender: the strongest all-around match
This recommendation means the original animated series, not Netflix’s live-action adaptation. In its fantasy world, people can bend one of four elements—earth, air, fire, or water—and young Aang travels with his companions in an effort to restore balance after conflict. The journey offers room for comic episodes as well as political allegory and more substantial worldbuilding, making it a versatile choice if you liked both the fun and the stakes of Percy Jackson. TV Guide made the comparison specifically for Percy Jackson viewers in its December 27, 2023 recommendations; Netflix also lists the animated title in its fantasy category (TV Guide; Netflix fantasy category).
2. The Dragon Prince: an animated fantasy quest
The Dragon Prince follows two human princes and a young elf assassin caught up in conflict between human and elven kingdoms. Its appeal is the ensemble adventure: young characters, an invented setting, magical creatures, and lore to discover along the way. Netflix categorizes it as family-and-kids fantasy and uses descriptors including magic, myths and legends, and unlikely friends (TV Guide; Netflix title listing).
#1 Best Overall
That category can help you decide what to investigate, but it cannot guarantee that a show suits every household. Check the listing and episodes for your family’s own content threshold. If you want to explore the franchise beyond the series, The Dragon Prince: Dreamer’s Nightmare is a graphic novel set before the television story and featuring Callum and Ezran; it is optional companion reading, not a required next installment (graphic novel listing).
3. His Dark Materials: a more serious, philosophical journey
This adaptation of Philip Pullman’s books follows Lyra in an alternate world. Alongside fantastical action, it takes on questions of religion, morality, and authoritarianism. TV Guide describes it as a three-season adaptation; its darker, denser concerns make it a better fit if you want fantasy with more philosophical weight than a close tonal copy of Percy Jackson (TV Guide).

4. Ms. Marvel: for the teen-hero energy, not the mythic quest
Kamala Khan is a Pakistani-American teenager who gains superpowers while juggling school, family, and a secret superhero identity. The points of overlap with Percy Jackson are a relatable young lead and humor, rather than mythological creatures or a fantasy-world expedition. Pick it if that contemporary teen-hero side of Percy is what you want more of; treat it as a superhero alternative, not a direct fantasy match (TV Guide).

Check tone and availability before you press play
- For a lighter animated adventure: start with Avatar: The Last Airbender or The Dragon Prince, while bearing in mind that both can include more serious material.
- For a more demanding story: try His Dark Materials.
- For a modern superhero setting: choose Ms. Marvel.
- For household decisions: check each show’s own age rating and content description rather than assuming that Percy Jackson’s Disney+ classification applies to another series.
- For streaming access: verify current availability in your country. A platform’s category or title page does not establish that a show is available in every territory.
