There is no reliable “no-wipe” label that applies across extraction shooters. Persistent progress can mean an account unlock, a character level, a quest line, a weapon license, an inventory, or rewards earned during a season. A game may preserve some of those layers after a failed raid while deleting others during a wipe, prestige cycle, or optional reset.
The strongest candidates to investigate are Escape from Tarkov, ARC Raiders, Hunt: Showdown 1896, Gray Zone Warfare, and Marathon. Current public material supports useful differences in their tone and progression systems, but it does not establish a complete, current persistence policy for every title. Use the checklist below to confirm exactly what survives before buying or committing time.

What “persistent progress” should mean in an extraction shooter
Extraction games use the word progress for several separate systems. Saying that a game has persistent progression without naming the layer can create the wrong expectation. The practical question is not “Does anything persist?” but “Which progress survives a failed raid, and which progress can be reset later?”

| Progress layer | What it includes | What you need to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Account unlocks | Permanent access to operators, vendors, maps, crafting stations, or game systems | Whether an account-wide unlock remains after a season, wipe, prestige, or expedition |
| Character progression | Levels, skills, talents, reputation, and quest completion | Whether levels and completed quests are retained between seasons and after voluntary resets |
| Stash and gear | Weapons, armor, ammunition, medical supplies, currency, and extracted loot | Whether a failed raid costs carried gear and whether a scheduled reset clears stored items |
| Weapon progression | Weapon licenses, variants, attachments, mastery, and unlock trees | Whether unlocks are permanent, season-bound, or tied to one character |
| Seasonal rewards | Cosmetics, badges, battle-pass items, titles, and event currencies | Whether rewards remain on the account after the season ends |
| Collection and records | Codex entries, weapon books, achievements, statistics, and discovered lore | Whether the record is historical only or is also reset with progression |
A player who wants to avoid losing hours of work usually cares most about account unlocks, quest completion, and weapon access. A player who wants a permanent economic climb may care more about stash value and currency. Those are different requirements, so two games can both be described as persistent while feeling completely different.

Four reset events that are easy to confuse
Failing an individual raid
In the ordinary loop, you enter with equipment, complete objectives, and attempt to extract. Death or a failed extraction may remove the equipment you carried and any loot that was not secured. That loss is not necessarily a global reset. Account unlocks, quests, and weapon access can remain intact while your current loadout disappears.
A scheduled seasonal wipe
A wipe is a developer-controlled reset that may clear stashes, trader or vendor progress, skills, quests, or several of those systems at once. The exact list is a policy decision, not a genre rule. A third-party 2026 guide describes wipes as resetting stashes, trader levels, and skills in one game; that example should not be generalized to every extraction shooter.
Prestige
Prestige is usually an intentional sacrifice of some advancement in exchange for a title, cosmetic, multiplier, or other long-term benefit. It can be voluntary and repeatable rather than a forced seasonal event. Check whether prestige removes only a level or also deletes quests, equipment, and unlocks.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Optional expedition or journey reset
Some games let a player opt into a reset in return for rewards or a fresh start. A May 2026 report described ARC Raiders Expeditions as an optional reset system, but that secondary description is not a substitute for the developer’s current rules. An optional reset can coexist with permanent account rewards, so ask exactly what the expedition consumes and what it grants.
How failure affects the value of persistent progress
Persistence does not make an extraction shooter forgiving. The tension comes from risking equipment and time even when part of your progression is safe. Before choosing a game, separate the cost of one bad raid from the cost of a seasonal reset.

- An action-packed cinematic horror experience currently unmatched by any game designed for Wii
- An all-new prequel chapter in the 'Dead Space' universe exclusive to the Wii
- A deep and thrilling all-new story, new characters, new weapons, new enemies, and new puzzles
- Co-operative multiplayer gameplay that allows you to team up to fight off the invasion, combine efforts on engineering puzzles, and more
- Intuitive controls scheme that allow you to strategically use the Wii Remote to dismember and freeze enemies, manipulate gravity with telekinesis, solve puzzles, and fight off attacks
- Low raid risk: You lose only the items carried into the match, while account unlocks and quests remain.
- Moderate raid risk: Death also removes stored currency, insurance value, or an active mission chain.
- High raid risk: A failed run can damage several progression tracks, forcing repeated unlock work.
- Reset risk: A season, prestige, or expedition can remove progress that survived every ordinary death.
Look for the game’s insurance, recovery, stash, and secure-container rules as well. Those systems can make the same wipe policy feel much harsher or gentler without changing which skills or quests are technically retained.
Candidate games and what is currently established
Escape from Tarkov: deep systems, but do not assume a no-wipe model
A 2026 secondary roundup characterizes Escape from Tarkov as the choice for raw depth and realism. That is useful guidance about its design priorities, not proof of a current wipe schedule or a list of retained progression. The available material does not establish which of its account, trader, skill, quest, stash, or weapon systems currently survive a reset.

Before committing, find the latest official wipe announcement or FAQ and record the treatment of trader reputation, skills, quests, stash contents, weapon access, and account-level cosmetics. A statement that merely says “wipe” is not detailed enough for a persistence decision.
ARC Raiders: an extraction adventure with a documented PvE matchmaking test
The official site describes ARC Raiders as an extraction adventure. It also displayed an announcement dated October 12, 2026, for a PvE matchmaking-toggle test scheduled for October 13–20, 2026. As of October 16, that test window is in progress, but the announcement does not state which progression layers persist or reset.
The PvE toggle matters to players who want to reduce direct player-versus-player pressure, yet a mode switch does not automatically change the economy or the wipe policy. The May 2026 description of Expeditions as an optional reset is a useful lead, not a complete rulebook. Confirm whether an expedition clears gear, quests, levels, or only selected systems, and identify every reward that remains on the account.

Hunt: Showdown 1896: documented progression work, incomplete persistence picture
A 2026 secondary roundup characterizes Hunt: Showdown 1896 as tense PvPvE bounty hunting. Crytek’s December 13, 2023 Update 1.15 announcement says the update overhauled Bloodline and weapon progression. The developer note states: “Our goal with these changes is to make Progression easier, faster, and more convenient for both new and Prestige players.”

That shows that weapon access and collection records are meaningful progression systems, but it does not establish the game’s full current persistence model. Gray Zone Warfare: a candidate that requires a direct policy check
Gray Zone Warfare appeared in current Steam search results, confirming that it is an active candidate for players comparing extraction shooters. The available material does not establish its current reset schedule or which progression survives a wipe. Do not infer those rules from another tactical shooter’s economy.
Before purchase, look for a current developer announcement or support document that names the retained systems. Pay particular attention to character reputation, missions, stash contents, weapon unlocks, and any planned seasonal structure. If the only available wording is “progression persists” or “there may be wipes,” ask for the component-by-component list.
Marathon: another candidate with no confirmed persistence matrix here
Marathon also appeared in current Steam search results. The available evidence does not establish its present wipe policy, seasonal structure, or carryover rules. Treat it as a game to monitor rather than as a confirmed no-wipe recommendation.
Rank #4
Check the latest official FAQ, patch notes, and launch documentation for the relationship between account unlocks, gear, missions, seasonal rewards, and any prestige or expedition-like system. Confirm platform and regional availability at the same time, because store presence alone does not answer those questions.

How to choose by the kind of persistence you want
If you want the deepest simulation-style loop
Start by investigating Escape from Tarkov. Its public characterization emphasizes depth and realism, which generally appeals to players who enjoy complex equipment, planning, and high-consequence raids. Do not buy it on the assumption that every long-term system is permanent; verify the current policy first.
If you want an extraction adventure with a possible PvE option
Investigate ARC Raiders and check the results of the October 2026 PvE matchmaking-toggle test. The ability to reduce direct PvP pressure may be more important to you than a permanent stash. Treat Expeditions as a separate reset question and confirm their rewards and costs in official documentation.
If you prefer bounty hunting and explicit weapon progression
Investigate Hunt: Showdown 1896. Crytek has publicly documented changes intended to make progression easier, faster, and more convenient, plus regular progression and Book of Weapons additions. That is stronger evidence of an actively maintained progression framework than a generic store description, but it still does not answer every persistence question.
If you are willing to follow a developing game
Gray Zone Warfare and Marathon may be worth tracking, but neither has a confirmed persistence matrix in the available material. Wait for an official statement that names each resettable and retained system, especially if losing a season’s work would make you quit.

A pre-purchase persistence checklist
Use this process on the official website, support portal, patch notes, or in-game news panel. Save the date of the document because reset rules can change between seasons.
- Find the latest reset statement. Search for “wipe,” “season reset,” “prestige,” “expedition,” and “carryover” in official announcements.
- Write down every retained account item. Separate cosmetics, achievements, account level, unlock tokens, and paid entitlements from character progress.
- Check quests and reputation. Confirm whether completed missions, vendor levels, faction standing, and unlock requirements return to zero.
- Check skills and weapon access. Ask whether skill levels, weapon licenses, variants, attachments, and mastery are permanent or season-bound.
- Check the stash and economy. Verify what happens to stored gear, currency, crafting materials, insurance, and secure containers.
- Check ordinary death separately. A raid failure may remove carried gear even when a seasonal wipe does not occur.
- Check optional resets. If there is a prestige, expedition, or journey, list its cost and every reward before opting in.
- Check mode restrictions. A PvE or reduced-PvP queue may have different matchmaking, loot, mission, or progression rules.
- Check dates and regions. Confirm that the policy applies to your platform, edition, server region, and current season.
- Ask support when wording is vague. Request a yes-or-no answer for each layer rather than relying on “persistent progression” as a slogan.
Questions that reveal a game’s real grind
Persistence only helps if the route to the next unlock is manageable. Compare these friction points:
- Repeat requirements: Must the same quest chain be completed every season?
- Locked equipment: Are basic weapons available immediately, or does effective gear require a long vendor climb?
- Recovery time: After a bad raid, can you rebuild a usable loadout quickly?
- Group dependence: Are missions and unlocks practical for solo players, duos, or only coordinated squads?
- Mode parity: Does a PvE-forward option grant the same progression as the standard PvP queue?
- Season timing: Are resets announced in advance, and is there a grace period for unfinished objectives?
These questions often matter more than the existence of a wipe. A game that resets only optional progress but has an exhausting rebuild may feel less persistent than a game with a larger reset but fast re-unlocking.

What evidence is strong enough for a buying decision?
Prefer a dated developer FAQ, patch note, or reset announcement that lists systems individually. A store description can establish the genre or broad mode, but it rarely specifies carryover. A community post can identify a problem or point you toward terminology, yet it should not override the developer’s current rules.
The public question “Can any Extraction Shooter veterans explain how other Extraction games handled ‘no wipes’?” captures the central ambiguity: players use “no wipes” to mean both “my stash never disappears” and “my account unlocks survive.” Those are not equivalent promises. Treat broad labels as a starting point and the component list as the decision.
Bottom line
If permanent progress is your top priority, do not choose solely from genre reputation or a retailer’s “persistent progression” phrase. At present, the available evidence supports five games as candidates for further checking, not a definitive persistence ranking. Hunt: Showdown 1896 has the clearest documented progression overhaul; ARC Raiders has a current PvE matchmaking test and a reported optional-reset concept; Escape from Tarkov is the depth-and-realism candidate; Gray Zone Warfare and Marathon require direct confirmation. Verify the exact carryover rules for your platform and season before investing hundreds of hours.
