Pick Delta Force for first-person military combat, coordinated squads and a free-to-play Xbox entry point. Choose Hunt: Showdown 1896 if you want the most atmospheric and punishing first-person PvPvE experience, where monsters, rival hunters and a bounty extraction all matter. None of these games has an official Halo connection; the recommendations are based on their documented combat, setting, team and progression traits.
What makes an extraction shooter different from a normal multiplayer shooter?
An extraction shooter gives every match two possible outcomes. You enter a dangerous map, complete objectives and collect useful goods, then try to reach an extraction point alive. Escaping lets you keep what you found and use it in later runs. Dying usually ends the run and may remove some or all of the equipment you brought in.

That risk-and-reward loop changes how you play compared with a conventional arena match. Winning a firefight is not enough if another squad is between you and the exit. A quiet route can be better than a spectacular kill streak, and information, positioning and ammunition management matter as much as raw aim.

1. ARC Raiders: the best science-fiction and beginner-friendly pick
Why it suits a Halo fan
ARC Raiders is the most direct match for the part of Halo that is about discovering a hostile future. It is a third-person PvPvE extraction shooter from Embark Studios. Players go to the surface to scavenge parts and weapons while dealing with ARC robots and other raiders. The robots provide the obvious science-fiction hook, but the human opponents ensure that a successful fight against the environment does not guarantee a safe extraction.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The third-person viewpoint gives you a wider view around cover and makes movement and positioning easy to read. That is a meaningful difference for players accustomed to first-person Halo: you can see more of your character and surroundings, but the weapon feel and sight picture will not be identical to a first-person shooter.
Why it is the easiest first extraction game here
ARC Raiders has two onboarding features that reduce the fear of losing a run. Free loadouts let a new player enter with a minimum kit, so practice does not require risking valuable equipment. In addition, completing objectives grants skill points even when the player fails to extract. You can therefore learn routes, enemy behaviour and the timing of an escape without treating every unsuccessful run as wasted time.
That does not make the game purely cooperative or purely PvE. It remains PvPvE: other raiders can contest the same resources and punish a noisy or predictable route. The gentler economy changes the cost of experimentation, not the need to watch for human opponents.

Who should choose ARC Raiders?
- Players who want robots and a clearly science-fiction world rather than contemporary weapons.
- Solo players or small groups that prefer a 1–3-player structure.
- Beginners who want a low-risk way to understand looting, objectives and extraction.
- Halo fans who are comfortable trying third-person combat.
Who may prefer another game?
If first-person aiming is non-negotiable, ARC Raiders may feel less familiar than Delta Force or Hunt: Showdown 1896. It is also not a safe PvE-only experience: rival raiders are part of the threat. The game is confirmed for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC, as well as PlayStation 5, with the cited platform review describing a 2025 release.

Use Operations when you want extraction
Delta Force is a broader free-to-play military shooter rather than a game built around one mode. Its extraction mode is called Operations. In Operations, squads enter a loot-filled sandbox, fight AI combatants and rival teams, and try to extract with what they found. The same package also contains Warfare and PvE Raid, so selecting the correct mode matters if extraction is your goal.
For a Halo player whose priority is first-person gun handling, military objectives and squad coordination, Operations is the closest fit among these three recommendations. The setting is modern military rather than science fiction, but the familiar rhythm of moving with a fireteam, reading a battlefield and using vehicles or coordinated tactics can be more important than the setting.
The cost of a failed Operations run
Operations has the clearest inventory risk in this comparison. Xbox Wire describes failed runs as potentially losing both the gear you brought into the match and the loot you collected there. A Safe Box protects selected items, making decisions about what to carry, store or risk part of the game rather than an afterthought.
This creates a sharper contrast with ARC Raiders. In Delta Force, a player who repeatedly enters with expensive equipment can create a costly death spiral. Using modest kits while learning the map, keeping protected items in the Safe Box and extracting before becoming overloaded are sensible ways to control that pressure.

Operations versus Warfare
| Mode | What it is for | Why it matters to this guide |
|---|---|---|
| Operations | Extraction mode with loot, AI enemies, rival teams and an escape objective | Select this mode for the extraction-shooter loop |
| Warfare | Large-scale military battles; the cited Xbox Wire material names 32-versus-32 play | Good for Halo-style battlefield scale, but it is not the same risk-and-extract structure |
| PvE Raid | Player-versus-environment content | Useful when you want cooperative combat without the full Operations format |
Who should choose Delta Force?
- Players who want first-person military combat instead of a science-fiction or horror setting.
- Friends who prefer squad roles, coordinated movement, vehicles and objective play.
- Anyone looking for a free-to-play starting point on Xbox Series X|S.
- Halo fans who enjoy large battles as well as smaller tactical engagements.
The Microsoft Store lists Delta Force as Free+ with in-game purchases, Xbox Series X|S support, online co-op and online multiplayer. 3. Hunt: Showdown 1896: the best hardcore PvPvE experience
A bounty hunt rather than a futuristic scavenger run
Hunt: Showdown 1896 is a competitive first-person bounty-hunting game built around extraction. Crytek sets it in Colorado and the Louisiana bayou in 1896, using early firearms, monsters and rival hunters to create a very different kind of pressure from Halo’s science-fiction battlefields.
In Bounty Hunt, up to 12 players enter solo or in teams of two or three. They fight creatures and other hunters, locate a Bounty Token and then attempt to extract. The objective is not simply to eliminate everyone: the token makes you visible and valuable, while rival hunters can wait, ambush or challenge you on the way out.
Why the atmosphere changes the tactics
Hunt’s sound-based positioning is central to its tension. Gunshots, movement and environmental noise can reveal where a team is before anyone is visible. Deliberate pacing and careful listening often matter more than firing first. That makes every approach, revive and extraction decision feel consequential.

The game is the strongest choice when you want the emotional cost of a failed run rather than a forgiving introduction. A mistake can erase the gains from the attempt, and the combination of monsters, rival hunters and a bounty creates memorable encounters that do not resemble a routine team deathmatch.
Who should choose Hunt?
- Players who insist on first-person combat but want something more deliberate than a conventional military shooter.
- Groups that enjoy solo, duo or trio coordination and communication.
- Anyone attracted to horror atmosphere, historical firearms and sound-led tracking.
- Experienced extraction players who are comfortable risking a run for a high-value bounty.
Hunt: Showdown 1896 is confirmed for PC and Xbox Series X|S. Crytek has also announced more than 10 million players worldwide in a 2025/2026 publisher announcement. That figure is a publisher-reported lifetime or cumulative audience statement, not a measure of current simultaneous players.
Which game feels closest to Halo gunplay?
No extraction shooter reproduces Halo’s exact weapons, movement or sandbox. The better question is which part of Halo you want to carry into a slower, higher-risk format.

Choose ARC Raiders for futuristic combat and enemies
ARC Raiders is the strongest thematic match. ARC robots and a science-fiction scavenging premise provide the closest sense of fighting through an unfamiliar future. Its third-person camera is the main adjustment, and its free-loadout system makes that adjustment inexpensive.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Choose Delta Force for first-person military squad play
Delta Force is the practical choice for players who value first-person aiming, military equipment, vehicles, squad coordination and large objectives. Operations supplies the extraction structure; Warfare supplies the 32-versus-32 scale when you want a conventional large battle instead.
Choose Hunt for Halo’s high-stakes teamwork
Hunt is not conventionally sci-fi, but it captures the tension of moving as a team through a dangerous space, identifying threats and committing to a fight only when the reward justifies it. Its audio cues and bounty objective make a three-person group communicate constantly.
Which is easiest for a beginner?
- Start with ARC Raiders if you are new to extraction games. Use a free loadout, complete a small objective and treat the first runs as route practice. Even a failed extraction can award skill points for completed objectives.
- Start with Delta Force if you already understand shooters. Enter Operations with a modest kit, learn where extraction points are and keep important items in the Safe Box. Do not confuse Warfare with the extraction mode.
- Start with Hunt if tension is the reason you are interested. Begin with a duo or trio, listen before moving and accept that a failed bounty attempt can cost the run’s gains.
The easiest game is not necessarily the least demanding in combat. ARC Raiders lowers the economic barrier to learning. Delta Force may feel immediately familiar to a first-person military player but punishes careless inventory decisions. Hunt teaches the most severe lessons about sound, patience and commitment.

Delta Force is the logical pick when everyone is on a supported Xbox setup and the group wants first-person military play at no initial game price.
Practical first-session plan
Before loading into any game
- Decide whether the session goal is learning, earning loot or hunting other players.
- Use the least valuable equipment that still lets you complete the objective.
- Agree on a regroup point and an extraction rule: for example, leave after the first useful objective rather than chasing every sound.
- Keep voice communication focused on direction, distance, enemy type and whether the team is committing or disengaging.
During the run
- Read the map before crossing open ground.
- Assume that loud combat can attract both AI enemies and rival players.
- Track the route to extraction before you become overloaded with loot.
- When one teammate is down, decide quickly whether the potential recovery is worth the exposure.
At the extraction point
Extraction is an objective, not a formality. Clear or observe the approach, listen for other teams and avoid treating the first visible exit as automatically safe. In ARC Raiders, the cost of a failed run is softened by free loadouts and objective progression. In Delta Force and Hunt, the equipment or bounty at stake can make the final approach the most dangerous part of the match.
Common mistakes Halo players should avoid
Taking every fight
Halo rewards winning a duel and moving to the next engagement. Extraction games reward arriving alive with the objective. A fight that produces no useful loot, information or route advantage may be a bad trade even if your aim is good.
Assuming the environment is the only enemy
ARC robots, Delta Force AI combatants and Hunt monsters can all distract you while another player closes in. Treat environmental combat as a source of noise and exposure, not just a target list.
Carrying more than you can safely extract
Extra loot increases temptation and can change your route. In Delta Force, the gear and loot at risk are explicit; in Hunt, the bounty creates a visible reason for enemies to intercept you. Set a leave condition before greed decides for you.
Expecting identical movement and weapons
ARC Raiders is third-person, Hunt uses historical firearms and Delta Force divides its identity between Operations and large-scale Warfare. Transfer your map awareness and teamwork habits, but learn each game’s recoil, timing, audio and sight picture from scratch.
Final recommendation by player type
| If you are looking for… | Pick | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| The most approachable science-fiction extraction game | ARC Raiders | Robots, third-person play, 1–3 players, free loadouts and objective progression after a failed run |
| First-person military combat with a free Xbox starting point | Delta Force | Operations adds extraction to a package with squad play, vehicles, AI enemies, rival teams and 32-versus-32 Warfare |
| The most atmospheric and punishing PvPvE game | Hunt: Showdown 1896 | Bounty extraction, monsters, rival hunters, historical weapons and sound-led positioning in 12-player matches |
| A game to learn extraction fundamentals with less economic anxiety | ARC Raiders | Free loadouts and skill-point progress reduce the penalty for early experimentation |
| A game for players who enjoy risking everything for one decisive objective | Hunt: Showdown 1896 | The bounty and failed-extraction consequences make every approach and escape meaningful |
Start with ARC Raiders unless your priorities are clearly different. Move to Delta Force when first-person military combat and squad scale matter most. Choose Hunt: Showdown 1896 when the attraction is not futuristic spectacle but the suspense of hearing an enemy, carrying a bounty and deciding whether to risk the final extraction.
